Having received little guidance and information about the sale of Upland Christian Schools, parents of students enrolled at the school turned to Mayor John Pomierski and the City Council for support. Full Story

The fact is: The parents don't own the school!!! They pay their tuition to the school for services rendered. The church can close the school, but who wins? no one!!! With the Western merger, Upland Christian will still have a school where they kids can attend.

Fred, you are right that the "church" has the right to close the school, but there are written by-laws and procedures for this. The fact is that only ONE man at the church made the decision to sell. He hid his plans from the church board and went to the denomination to impose a "crisis" designation during the summer so a sale could be initiated. Normal procedure according to the written manual of the denomination is that all local church recommendations are first to be discussed and voted on by that local church board, then approved by the denomination superintendent and then the church membership votes. This never happened. The church board and members found out about the "crisis" designation and pending sale in late September, well after the fact yet before the denomination even intended to tell them, per the superintendent himself. At that point, extensive negotiations with a buyer had been underway for months and escrow opened only a few days later.

Parents are seeking to have the sale halted and investigated because the denominations own written policy was breached. In addition, several of the statements made in order to justify the "crisis" designation are inaccurate. Several church members and those in leadership also object to this and are asking for a closer look. The school is fiscally sound and there is no reason that it cannot continue for years to come, short of being sold out under questionable circumstances.

Heavenly Father, I ask you that bless all the parents who are working so hard on our behalf at UCS. Please Lord bless the Mayor and the City Councilmen who spoke so kindly about our school. Father, God please bless all the students and staff who continue to keep you God first during this stressful time. Please bless all the churches and schools who have shown their support through prayers and actions. God, I just ask for a miracle, please Lord show the truth to Anaheim and Kansas City, please open their eyes to the unjust. Father God I love you and ask you for your help. I ask this in your Holy name.

Lets start a prayer chain now, there is power in prayer, I LOVE UCS

I am shocked by what i have heard regarding the school being sold. How horrible it must be for all the parents and students. To think after so much hard work and prayer going into building things up now all of this happens. I will be praying for all that is ahead for the school and staff there. I love them all.

I was there to see how the parents of the students attacked my church. How these "parents" could stand up and sling mud at church officials in front of their own children is beyond my comprehension. To enter a church with this attitude. To display such hatred & malice in the house of the Lord is utterly disgraceful. To show this behavior to kids in this manner tells them that this is an ok way to act. IT IS NOT OK TO YELL AT A PREACHER IN THE CHURCH. I am sorry but the school is in a serious financial crisis. By the spring of 2009 it will have brought it's debt over $7 million!

The school board was approached a number of times to re-delegate it's money to avoid this decision. Unfortunately, nothing changed. Since the church built the school. The church owns the school. The school is not being sold to a satan worshipping temple. GET A GRIP! The school is joining with another christian school to thrive.

This needs to end. Stop getting mad at the wrong people and look to God to help you seek forgiveness. Step outside of your box & look at the big picture.

We were there, too, and no one entered your church with malice or hatred. Even your own pastor agreed that what you are describing didn't happen! Don't believe me, well it's on video if you need to see it. It was your church that was struggling. The school was and is paying its debt. The church was behind the building of the high school building which is the debt we're talking about. It's like a mortgage, just because you have debt, doesn't mean your in financial trouble. The issue is can UCS manage the debt, and we maintain that they absolutely can! If the district would have been up front, we could have proved that - but they still won't answer questions because they know what they've said is not true. Maybe you need to talk to your own church board as well because they seem to disagree with your take on it also.

UCS parents would have been glad to help with the church's struggles, if we had been given the chance. Too bad you aren't willing to do the same during our struggle. Quit defending the reprehensible behavior on the part of the Anaheim District of the Nazarene and their attorney and do something to constructive!

Clearly, if you are in debt: you are in a financial crisis! That is the definition of a financial crisis. Yes there was reprehensible behavior. This behavior was on behalf of the parents & some faculty memebers of UCS. And then to let children, yes the children that I'm talking about is anyone under the age of 23 or so because they have to still get a firm grasp of what the world is really like. Anyway, the children were allowed to raise their voices in such a disrespectful manner & tone that I, as well as many others, were appalled. This is between the grown-ups. If you are coming to acuse, belittle & act disrespecfully in a church LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME. That is what I was talking about.

Also, if you have any understanding of how things work in any religious denomination in the world, then you would understand how things had to work to save UCS. Stop pointing fingers & telling me I'm wasting my time, because clearly you are too.

Debt does not equal financial crisis, and it is not the "definition" of financial crisis. Crisis is when you can't pay your debts - not the case here. Have you never in your life had a mortgage? A car loan? When you did were you in financial crisis? Should someone have seized the property to save you? I'm sure that you would have just accepted it if they had.

Apparently you need some financial education because you're having a difficult time grasping the simple concepts.
an outsiders perspective

As an outsider looking in, I am in disbelief over what I am hearing! Unless you are on the church board or the school board you do not know everything going on! I would even venture to say that even if you are on the church board or the school board you only know what is going on in the church or the school respectively. It is impossible for parents to see the goings on behind the scene!

As far as the "secrecy"- under normal circumstances...company mergers are not usually discussed until paper work and contracts are finalized!(Have you not seen the AT&T ad where "Ned" is in Sweden (I think) and doesn't get the message not to mention the merger because the contract is not signed and everyone will go nuts!!) Sounds to me like exactly waht is going on at Upland Christian Schools! If you ask me nobody should have been told until everything was signed and the school was sold. Unfortunately when it comes down to it, it is a BUSINESS decision and the ENTIRE sale should be conducted as such!

I agree with you on one thing "Outsider'OK" we do not know everthing, but what we do know is that the process of this deal was not done legally. This is why we are fighting, since you claim to be a outsider, how do you know whats REALLY going on? At this point, the whole Nazarene suits look like they are trying to cover up a shady deal.

I have no idea what is going on! I was searching christian schools and found the article. Then after reading the comments on here I simply stated my OPINION! All I have to say is none of this is sounding very Christian! Even if the deal was "shady" nobody on here calling names and making accusations is acting any better than those people you are critical of!

Here is an idea - how about the parents get together and buy the school, since it appears to be up for sale.
Then they could run it anyway they want, even if it loses money every year.

It is interesting that WCS is painting the picture to their parent that this is merger and they will have all the UCS students and teachers joining WCS thus improving their financial picture. Doane is in it only for the money and his mishandling of the matter should have WCS running the other direction.

Oh really Dr. Doane? You're in it for the money! Gee! Wow it's all crystal clear now! Thanks for clarifying!

Just in case anyone missed the point ^.. If you are not the person you are speaking about, you have absolutely no right to speak for them! Grow up & express your thoughts for what they are: opinions! NOT FACTS!
