Does The Veterans Memorial at Ramey Park Get Regular Updates?

I know there were many names of veterans cut onto
the marble stone when the monument was set, then
there was a rumor that any additional name on the
monument would cost extra to have it cut onto the
monument and the new veteran or his family would
have the cost to bear...I believe the rumor was
$50.00 for each name added...does anyone know if
there is any truth to this?

At one time there was a group called the Military Support Group that paid to have the names of Honorably discharged Vets put on the Monument. Contact the DAV. They can give you an update on the procedure.

Thanks for the info...my name is already engraved on
the monument, I am guessing they got it from the copy
of my DD Form 214 that is on record in the county
court clerk's office. However, I was wondering if there
are any funds coming in from the donations I often see
people taking at places like Walmart and where ever there
is a heavy traffic area. I know these people want to help
veterans and we appreciate them very much for it. I was
thinking it might be a good idea if there could be a drive
to put up a fund to help new veterans get their names on
the monument. If the DAV wanted to be the treasury holder
of this fund, that would be fantastic...my concern is that
the new addition of a name on this wonderful monument should
be within reach of every Magoffin County Veteran who wants
his/her name on it..and it is hardly fair there are so many
of us with our name engraved for free and the newer additions
have to pay so much if fifty dollars is the correct amount
required. We really need to step up for these guys!

My husband was out in 2007, and I think even before he was came back, or right after from over seas, his name was on there, and it was at no cost to him at all. I think it is a wonderful thing they are doing. I am sure all you have to do is let them know. I can't see them charging for that service. Magoffin County has too much respect for their Vets!!

That's great to hear, like I said, it may have just been
a rumor, we all know how that goes. I was only saying
had it been that some veterans were being charged, that
maybe a fund could be started to help pay for the sand
blaster that cuts the names onto the marble...any one of
our veterans is just as important and deserve as much as
the rest..and I know I nor my family was charged to have
my name put on this monument and I am so grateful to those
who have gone so far to have had this done for veterans.

Count me in if funds need to be raised/donated for additional names to be placed on that monument. My friend worked with the volunteers with the National Guard when we had a lot of local men deployed to Afghanistan a few years back. She said this County gave and gave to sendto those young solders with the local unit out of Prestonsburg. I am proud of the support this County gave them and proud of all our Veterans.
They are the very soul of our country.
