First let me say I will not comment how your stories are written. What I have a problem with what is not written. In the May 10 issue the headlines had two stories that came from the Tuesday council meeting. Again I will say I will not comment on the stories themselves. These stories stand for themselves. I regret that your paper has let me down for several years now. But what I did not see is the other two notable stories from the meeting. The votes that limit the oversight of the police department by the Mayor and the vote to change the compensation of the Mayor to 1 dollar. If I did not see these what else did we miss. As a journalist I would assume you would ask the questions as to WHY? A REAL journalist would have, and with the same zeal as the two stories that graced you last headline. Could it be that you were told not to or are you thick as thieves with the council that has declared WAR on anyone that wants open the town business to the light of day? I have depended on your paper for 35 years to get the news. You have let me down! I will not buy another paper from you, you have lost my business and I will urge others to do the same. I will check from time to time but it will be from the paper left on a table at McDonalds. I hope you get with the program, the whole story, not Cherrie picked items that benefit only one side. Guess who brought it up? Vince/Mike. Musta been daaaady's idea. You forgot him wanting to bid the hay for two years claiming it would save the town advertising money. If he wants to save the town $60k unload of Lyin' Mike. Joe apparently said the compensation for mayor was going to the food bank. Unfortunately the paper looks like it's going to be the museum gazette from now on.

Who reads the paper to you? Or do you just look at the pictures?

Crazy meeting. First of all the agenda does not reflect the items discussed. How can the public know what they are interested in? They should put it on line so we the public can understand what is going on. In the new business item 1 the chamber lady gave a talk(so sad because at the budget meeting they talked about the chamber like a dog) but they sat there and smiled. item 2 Paving - Jacky turned in quotes from W&L paving with the council saying that Buckeye would be 1st. But we have no money. item 3 Bidding of the hay. Each and every year the hay bidding is delayed because the wording of ad is never the same. Always having someone in mind who 1st. did not own any equipment to do the job. They gave it to their friend. It looked awful. The hay needs cutting now not in June. None of the hog wash in regard to the chief or the Mayor's salary. Surely they know that would be changing the town charter. Everything is done in so fast no one has time to understand it. Also, the manager's report never give details of what is what. He will say this is for council's information and the public does not see it. In the pass everything was listed by item.

Next, is the Chief's report. We listen to how great the SPD IS. ALL I can say is without Randall the town will lose alot of revenue because he wrote so many tickets.

Furthermore, as for the paper on the front page was two articles in regard to Marion and their town about how well they are doing. Remember the husband of the writer is a close friend of Neils and a golf course member.

Each and every meeting, the writer is always taken aside by Neil or Taylor to discuss something. but never the SMYTH COUNTY NEWS REPORTER IS ASKED TO DO THE SAME.

CITIZENS, attend the meetings that is the only way you will know the truth in regard to our town. Ask questions, if someone will let you. One member of the audience asked a question and Neil said he would not have let her speak except she was faster then him. They have citizens time, but if you don't know what is on the agenda how can you ask questions.

Thank goodness, Lugs is gone, Neil, Dickie, and Tom are going because this group could not get along to even do the town daily business. Todd says he is not going to run again, why wait quit now we don't need you.

I so look forward to recieving my hometown paper. I'm sorry I could not boycott it. I've been away for thirtysome years and have always got the paper for as long as I can remember. Sorry to see Saltville have so many differences and not enough solutions. Besides following my husband I knew Saltville would not amount to much. It could though with the right leadership and not so many small town greedy people only looking for 15 mins of fame and alittle more pocket change.

is there a mcdonalds in saltville???

To you people who live out of town and subscribe to the Saltville Regress I could just send you archive copies from the late 70's and early 80's and you wouldn't know the difference.

What happens when a town cop gets locked in the back seat of his police car with a woman, and has to call the chief to come unlock the door and get them out...wouldn't you say they would do whatever necessary to protect their reputations and interests. Corruption has no bedfellows, it uses the foolish for it's greed based fulfillment.Greed is no bedfellow to truth and justice.

Each and Every one of the old council had an agenda of some kind. We need to ask for all information we can get because it will be destroyed as soon as possible. Ms. Ruth Austin we need your guidance for the town's budget.

The same for the new council. Watch taxes and water rates go up.

Like my dad always told me "I have to go out of this town to work so i will go out of this town to spend it...." this was several years ago an till this day he will drive to glade springs, chilhowie or etc.. if he needs anything.. an i do the same.. Just saying.. I dont care who or wat thats in council, mayor or watever the hell they want to call it this shit will never change in this small hole.. To many chiefs an not enough indians.....

Bet those "drunks" never get pulled over. Most likey get a chaperoned ride home.

i've heard that also if the cops wanna make quota they should have more traffic checks during warm days after they leave the golf course an charge them instead of givin them a ride home but it is the good ol boy capital of the world

Last night was an important meeting to our town and our citizens. Was the newspaper there to cover the stories? If so when will we know?

The IDA MEETING DATE WAS CHANGED. why! How did so many outside people know. Us John Q Citizens
