It just seems to me that it might be more fruitful to assist homeless, depressed or suicidal gay youth, then to try to force a bigoted and homophobic organization to accept them in some way. The best thing these youth can do is to get support as far away from the LDS church as possible.

Unfortunately, Steve. A lot of LDS Mormons are in government leadership positions here and are severely reluctant to have a homeless shelter for the 45 % of the homeless teens who identify as Queer in some way because they think it would make them look bad when the general authorities encourage the adults to kick out their LGBT kids. Its way sad and way disturbing. Their suffering intensely or even end up moving to another state that is more accepting or has night shelters for them.
It's as if they 'would rather see these teens dead, than homosexual and healthy.'

Cal for references, Rachelle: what evidence do you have that "the general authorities encourage the adults to kick out their LGBT kids?"

Or indeed have *ever* done so?

Their statements are a matter of public record and are easily searchable. You can find them here:

Where is this counsel to be found?

Are there any facts at all behind your perception?

The argument/debate still comes down to this: The marriage union of a man and a woman has been the teaching of the Judeo-Christian scriptures and the core legal definition and practice of marriage in Western culture for thousands of years. Those who seek to change the foundation of marriage should not be allowed to pretend that those who defend the ancient order are trampling on civil rights. The supporters of Proposition 8 were exercising their constitutional right to defend the institution of marriage... an institution of transcendent importance that they, along with countless others of many persuasions, races and genders feel conscientiously obliged to protect.

Beautifully done. Wish I could have been there to support you all but I was there in spirit. I hope it does some good in softening hearts.

LDS leaders are the most loving and generous group on the planet. They don't need a lesson on love from the disaffected, they get their lessons directly from God. Nice try LGBT.

Instead, how about a lesson on how to live happily with the threat of sexual temptations looming overhead offered to the LGBT group?

Hey Steve Harris, nice try buddy. Unfortunatley, Utah ranks high in most databanks as a preferred place to live and where people are most happy and productive. Too bad Mormon standards make it all possible huh.

I see utterly no reason for churches to be involved in actions of this type (Marriage) which carry the force of state law, and wish to get them out of it! I likewise see the state having no competence in interfering with the church in any way (with one exception) by making pronouncements or taking actions on what does or does not please God, as defined by those very churches!
In my opinion, the state should universally join any applicants (provided that it does no great & lasting injury to the public welfare) in a Domestic Union which has the full force of state law. In this case the state may make no assumptions or pronouncements on God defined morality. It would only be permitted to use the "great & lasting injury to the public welfare" argument when denying any such Domestic Union. Such argument must hold in a court of law and be provable and reasonable!
On the other hand, once a party has been joined in a Domestic Partnership ceremony, because of religious reason & beliefs, they may wish to take the additional step of going through another ceremony and have their union recognized by God as "Marriage"! To accomplish this the couple would go to the Church of their choice and be "Married", as long as they fully met the requirements of God for this union, as defined by that particular church. The state may in no way, interfere, use coercion or be anyway involved with the definition, application and enforcement of these requirements by the several church's with the exception of "great & lasting injury to the public" argument.
I believe this to be a reasonable solution to the whole issue and note the the LDS Church has been carrying on such a two tiered system of marriage quite successfully for many years!

How unlike a magic underpants, dead Jew baptizing or other religious freek to lie.

Marriage has changed considerably over the centuries, just like every other social and legal institution. Marriage used to mean many wives, women as property of men, child brides or all three. Perhaps some bigot Moron Churchcult members would like to acknowledge these simple realities one of these decades.

We're going to have marriage equality in the US, just as about 30% of the developed Western world already has it. The only question is how many enemies the freaky, sexually disordered bigots make themselves and for how long along the way.

Amen.

Having been through my own Pioneer handcart storms (not the LGBT kind) I can say that the best way to deal with a loss of hope is with an increase in prayer.

I don't know what this group is hoping for exactly. Legitimization of same sex attraction? If so, it might be outside the realm of possibility, but if they want empathy and our prayers I think it is possible. God hears and answers prayers. The key is to ask God for what is right.

No matter how alone one feels, one can always return to God.

"Draw near unto me, and I will draw near unto you," says God.
