How does a Mormon explain the book of Abraham ?

A lot of Mormons dont know that Joseph claimed to have translated some Egyptian papyrus, which early Mormons bought off of an antiquities salesmen. Joseph himself, said it was "reformed Egyptian" and that he could translate it. Which is now The Book of Abraham, in Mormon scripture. They have now found the EXACT papyrus that Joseph claimed to have translated. It even has Joseph's hand writing and some temple designs on the back of it. The papyrus shows only a common Egyptian mortuary scene.

Your information is pretty close but the reformed egyptian was the book of mormon and the papyrus were from mummies that members bought and joseph smith claimed to translate the egytian language and thus the scripture in the book of abraham with is part of the book of canonized scripture called the pearl of great price.
Of course the translation is false as we have a main part of the papyri but true blue members will just say that there was another part or when this is proven obviously false, they will say it may have just influenced joseph so he could be in tune with the spirit and write away.
This is all bullshit of course and I know as I was a true blue believer for 50 years. Thankyou internet. No amount of faith can change fiction into fact.

Of course I didn't see Joseph translate these documents... and neither did you. So you to are just guessing that everything you believe in is true. Joseph himself wrote in the pearl of great price that "by his own hand" he translated "some ancient records that have fallen into our hands, from the catacombs of eygyt" Thats the first sentence in the book of Abraham. Facsimile 1, is identical to a passage in the book of breathing, from Egyptian mythology, depicting a mortuary scene of preparing a body for burial. Why do I know all this? Because I was LDS. I was born into the church. I was baptized, ordained to many positions, including Elder... called to serve a mission in South American. It wasn't until I truly studied the B.o.M., And yes I prayed about it, and spent a long time struggling to deny the truth, that I realized that Joseph Smith lied, and that the Mormon church was false.
