Is it still illegal to serve alcohol in Utah or have laws changed since I was there 20 years ago? Do mormons have something to do with this and why does one denomination control the laws of an Entire state? not all christians think it's a sin to drink alcohol. and Utah isnt just christians

No, Utah isn't a dry state & it isn't illegal to serve alcohol. However, it does have some of the dumbest liquor laws around. You have to buy liquor at a State owned liquor store. This includes dinner wines. No beer allowed over 3.2%, which you can buy in stores. Yes, Mormons do have something to do with this. With about 90% of the legislature composed of Mormons, they pretty much run the place, & not just liquor. When some changes in the liouor laws were proposed in the legislature, the draft was forwarded to the church for approval before it was voted on.

It is like Taliban sh1t. I have to live with it everyday, on more subjects than just alcohol.
Taxes on liquor double the price of any bottle. A state liqour store employee once told me that it's not unusual to pull in a million profit a DAY in his single store.
There is also no competition for these state run stores. They are the only place you can buy liqour to take home. It's even illegal to bring in out-of-state liqour without delaring it and paying taxes on it. So add monopoly to the list of cr@p that this relig*ahem* government gets away with.

That has to be one of the most brainless schemes i have ever heard of...i mean, im a christian, but this religion-control-freakiness is absolutely unbelievable...The laws over here in Britain are much more relaxed!

Isn't there a similar illegality about alcohol in Tennessee? My friend went there once, and saw a guy get arrested for having a bottle (unopened) of Jack Daniel's Old No.10

It's flaming ridiculous!

What Utah did you go to? Are you sure it was the state in the United States of America. Because alcohol was not illegal in Utah 20 years ago either. I know your post is 2 years old now but I really do wonder what state you were actually visiting. In fact, alcohol was not illegal in Utah 30 or 40 or 50 years ago. Might wanna brush up on your history.

I agree, while I do not like drunk or buzzed drivers, people are still going to drink. Utah liquior laws have improved but still suck. It makes going out to eat or going to a bar not worth going. When you order a drink, like a Long Island Ice Tea you have a certain perception on how it should taste, can't get one in Utah, not a properly prepared one anyway.

One item of interest is the fact that Utah liquor stores always sell the highest volume at LDS Conference times!! FACT!

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Scorpio

You're in the mood to spend money on a favourite hobby or pastime today, so take care if you're supposed to making every penny count at the moment. The temptation to treat yourself to something that you'll undoubtedly enjoy will be too strong to resist, and the trouble is that you might not restrict yourself to just one item either. It looks like being an extravagant day!
