SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News)- Numerous sources are now telling ABC 4 that the LDS Church is poised to extend an olive branch of sorts to the gay community.
These sources say the Church is expected to - both through spoken and written statements - to offer its support for proposed Salt Lake City ordinances extending protection to gays in the areas of employment and housing. Reportedly, the Church has been in quiet discussion with members of Utah's gay community. This announcement from the Church is expected sooner rather then later. It is being described to ABC 4 as being very significant.

To do the right thing, the LDS church seems to have the uncanny knack of believing that Hine sight is a fool’s foresight.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a landmark piece of legislation in the United States that outlawed racial segregation in schools, public places, and employment.
The Civil Rights Act of 1968 is the “refusal to sell or rent a dwelling to any person because of his race, color, religion or national origin.”
Later on the disabled and families with children were added to this list.
This is also known as the Fair Housing Act.

Beginning in 1980, Senator Orrin Hatch spoke in favor of rolling back provisions of the Fair Housing Act. Acting on his motion in 1988, Congress voted to weaken the ability of plaintiffs to prosecute cases of discriminatory treatment in housing.
But the Fair Housing Act was also amended in 1988 to allow plaintiffs' attorneys to recover attorney's fees.
Additionally, the 1988 amendment added people with disabilities and families with children to the classes covered by the Act.
