hello my name is simona and i'm writing from italy...i'm searching Tomasina Chieffe(born in 1911)that lives or used to live in windber PA.Her husband name was Nicola Maffeo.My granmother Maria Chieffe is the Tomasina's sister,she is alive and has 78 years old.My granmother talks about her sister very often but did not know nothing about her since 1965.I'm writing this message to have some contact with someone who can answer our questions,where she lives if we have other relatives in America.My granmother wishes to know something about her family before she dies.I hope you can help us.

I lived in Windber from 1943 to 1967, but I don,t recall a Maffeo family. The name was probably Americanized, but it would be hard to determine how it ended up. Ther might be some information at the Italian Church "St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church" in Windber" 2201 Graham Ave. Windber, Pa 15963. I do not know the name of the present Priest, but he could get in contact with some of old timers. Take Care

wife the former Eleanor Rizzo and these sons: Nick J., David A.,Jerome D. and Vincent P., all of Gaithersburg. Also grandchildren Melissa, Jessica and Christina. Brother of Maryann Maffeo, Frank Maffeo, Connie Turcato and Jean Barta, all of Windber, and Angie Studinary, Ruskin, Fla. Also munerous nieces and nephews. Mr.Maffeo was employed by Metro Transit in the Washington, D.C. area. Army veteran of Korean Conflict. Member of St. Martin's Catholic

I have information on the Nick Maffeo family for Sabina, the 1920 & 1930 census shows them living at 408 11th. St., Windber. In 1942, Nick Maffeo's WW11 draft card shows he was born Oct. 18, 1893 in San Pietro, Italy, his wife was Thomasina, he was working in the General Office of the Berwind White Coal Co., today at 408 11th.St. there is a M.J. Maffeo living at this address. This may help you Sabina to get in touch with your mother's family.

simona, if Nick Maffeo was born about 1898, his wife Thomasina would not be alive today. I tryed putting the phone number for you for the Maffeo family who are living at that same address but it was not permitted so was taken off of my message. If you wish I could call that number on your behalf and asked them about the family. I do not wish to do it unless you request it. Just let me know. Patricia.

Simona, I have contacted the Maffeo family of Windber, Pa. for you and spoke to Mary Ann Maffeo. She is an unmarried daughter of Nick Maffeo and his first wife Contance. She still lives in the home of her father. She says her father died at the age of 101 years in 1994. His first wife died in child birth in 1926, the mother of two children, and he then remarried to Thomasina who died in an automobile accident. She did not know the date of her death. She has two neices who are trying to find more about the Maffeo family. If you wish to write to Mary Ann Maffeo she would be happy to hear from you. Her address is 408 11th. St., Windber, Pa. 15963.

Dear Simona, I am happy to have been able to help you and Maryann Maffeo was very happy to hear from family in Italy so it was my pleasure to have been of service. Your 78 year old grandmother Maria must have been a much younger sister of Tomasina Chieffe. Did Tomasina come to the U.S. with other family members? The reason that I am asking is that when I checked the U.S. census records for the Maffeo family I also found living in Windber a Domonick Chieffa, age 31 in 1930 so he would have been born about 1889, born in Italy and immigrated to the U.S. in 1921. His wife was named Jennie, they had two children, Mary 5 years old and Jennie, age 3 years old. They were born in Pennsylvania. Perhaps he was Tomasina's brother, and also Maria's brother. yes you are right...when tomasina left from italy my granmother maria had 1 years old(born in 1929)...but tomasina left alone in 1930...she had also a brother but he lived and died in italy.

Simona, I can send you information on the Nick Maffeo family, his parents and children, if you would like that but of course would not have anything on the Chieffe family if none were in America. I have done extensive research on the family since I first read your call for help and have alot to send. I can send it at your personal email address ( Simona 189@gmail.com) if you like.
