This is just too bad. And, it's bad because I had more faith in Stallings, who should have fired these deputies, not allowing them to escape by quitting.
Both of these deputies have backgrounds that are not very nice. But, the excuse is: they work in a dangerous job. That is a flimsy excuse.
Steelman should have ticketed the driver, at least.
However, the community isn't all stupid. And we all will get a chance to vote for Sheriff again soon. Time to throw the bums out, and try someone new.
I'm disappointed, because I thought Stallings was above reproach....and now I know I'm wrong.
The Sheriff's Dept is still a law enforcement clique? I thought that was over when Wafford left.
You are a phony.

<quoted text> You know nothing about what I've done.......but I know firsthand doing it most your post is BS.......the reason people become cops, instead of social workers, nurses or all manner of other jobs that help society at least as much, is that they want access to the excitement and authority.....which in itself is not a bad thing.......but the price you pay for admission to the club is the fact that you do not have the luxury of poor judgement......society rightly will not tolerate it..........let this be a lesson to all police officers.....uphold the standard or disgrace yourself.
You are a total and complete idiot. You have no idea why every cop became a cop. I'm sure there are some who started that occupation because it looked cool. But you CANNOT lump them all into one group and pronounce their decisions to be for the same reason. My husband retired from law enforcement after a flawless 20 year career. I know several troopers who did the same for more years than that. They DID NOT put their lives on the line for complete idiots like you because of any power trip or excitement. You've clearly never been on the receiving end of someone shooting at you, or coming at you with a ball bat, knife, or a needle. You've never worked an accident scene where someone's six-month-old baby was dead in their car seat that you discovered after removing their dead parent's body from atop of them, only to go home, grab your small child, hold them for dear life and cry your eyes out thanking God for their safety. You've never had to tell a parent that their teenage child has been needlessly killed in an accident. That is not an "excitement" any normal human being lives for because it's fun or controlling. They became police officers to protect innocent people, to help society, to make a better difference in their towns. And I can PROMISE YOU it was NOT for the pay. They get paid pitifully. And there isn't enough money in the world to do what they did and what good police officers do now, only to have to read and listen to the ungrateful, disrespectful, degenerates like you! You should be completely ashamed of yourself!

If this police officer was in fact such an outstanding guy, then why was he doing the very thing he is supposed to be protecting me from? He should be held to a much higher standard than just being allowed to "resign".

They screwed up and the whole establishment blew it, I agree. We shouldn't lump them all into that category because a couple guys blew it. We have some great law enforcement people in this country as well and I thank God for them.

Your husband was a cop? You werent.......you know nothing about it just because you slept in his bed.....you don't learn about it by osmosis........so shut your mouth as if you consider yourself an expert. You don't have the slightest clue what I've done and known......but it was a helluva lot more than you.

And your husband was a good cop he should know why there is a higher standard.......if he doesn't he wasn't a good cop.

And and nobody protects my ass least of all you.

Copworship is the dumbest phenomenon.......It's a job.........do it right or get fired.........It's a popular meme for police to refer to themselves as sheepdogs..........But sheepdogs work at the pleasure of the shepherds.......and anyone who starts thinking society should be the sheep and not the sheperd have the wrong idea........And that's what this copworship phenomenon is.........9/11 really kicked it off..........If you're the cop you are the servant in a free society not the master........KNOW YOUR ROLE!

And spare me the 'you don't know what its like to put on a badge and gun for a living!'........Really? Try carrying a rifle in 120 degree heat with IEDs going off.......Tell me then about the mean streets of Dent County.

I lived it every day and I'm so sorry he worked to protect ungrateful ingrates like you. I was there to watch it all. It's a shame you don't have a relationship with your spouse like I do with my husband. Watched it every day of 20 years, so yes, I know what they go through and I know what he went through. You should step back and read your post and see how much more stupid you proved yourself. If you bothered to read what I wrote, I NEVER said they shouldn't be held to a higher standard. As a matter of fact, on every wall of his department he posted a sign for his officers to always see and remember a sign that reminded them they are public servants. I also said people like you don't have the right to lump them all in one big pile for you to pee on. You are still here and still alive, so he most certainly did protect you. You clearly are a cop wanna-be that probably has a major record that prevents him from doing so. Don't berate them for your poor choices.

Go ahead, open your mouth and prove me right.

As if you ever served our country. A true, respectful soldier doesn't act like you and doesn't give our great military a bad name. Get your record expunged and go serve, or shut up.

I don't care how long they've been a cop or what they have done, if they consider themselves above the Law and if Dent Co. considers them and themselves above the Law then to hell with all of them. What is the point of Law if Law Enforcement is not held to the same standard as everyone else? Driving a gator drunk through town is a chargeable offense, EXCEPT for those in Law Enforcement or those in power?@#$% that, and if you have a hand in this case and think that "hey, we should give law enforcement breaks we don't to anyone else, unless they know people" then %$#@ you. People like you are what is wrong with this country, from the bottom up. How many liscenses have you taken, how much in fines, how much time in satop, how many years of probation have you ruled out as justice in Dent Co. only to turn around and not follow your own &%*#ing rules?

. Screwing a cop does not make you a cop.......and I'm no wannabe.......If I wanted to be a glorified janitor for $12.00 an hour i'd be a cop.........by the way, which convenience store or truck stop were working when you managed to snag a cop to move you out of your trailer?

If you can't obey the law you have no business enforcing it......Cops who break the law while enforcing it are just thugs with a badge.......no matter how many badge bunnies hop on topix to defend them.

Badge bunnies! That's a good one. My question is..why do cops get to stand around at the ball park watching their kids play t-ball for hours? I'm assuming their on duty - they have the cop car and are wearing a badge and gun. I could understand if they came on their supper hour or something, but 2 - 3 hours? Doesn't seem right.

I don't hate cops.....quite the contrary.......they do serve a useful function, like sanitation workers, they are there simply to deal with the trash so we don't have to.......they are social janitors.........the problem comes when they fail to realize their role and start acting like they are above the law. Then its time to replace one.

I totally agree with you...i know that I got caught and i did a weekend satop, 30 days no license, 2 years probation, 40 hours community service and several thousand dollars later and yes I learned my lesson. What makes them better than me???? Give them their DWI and let them pay like the rest of us have that have made the mistake of driving while drunk..I know it taught me a lesson

<quoted text>Okay so when did nurses get to have authority. You do not realize a nurse never has authority they are constantly yelled at because someone didnt get a pain pill exactly when they could have it. Instead you were helping someone else who is having chest pain or needs help to the restroom. The physicians push and pull you like a rag doll. Your boss pushes and pulls. Oh and the government has everything regulated so badly your walking on pins and needles. So by the end of the day a nurse leaves their job feeling like raggedy ann which has been ran over several times arm half way ripped off anf feet on fire and hurting. Oh not to mention getting up the next day to do it all again. So before you talk about nurses think about them holding their urine so long so they can get you your meds or you can urinate. A person gets into nursing for one of two reasons. 1st the love for helping someone it is awesome seeing someone get better and go home or 2ndI is the money or forever career option
try being a paramedic or EMT then bitch about your job. You have no idea.

I too wondered why the Salem News printed so little...small bit on the side of page 1--- this has happened over and over since the current Owner/Editor has had the paper.

What about ''your world today''? I must have missed it

There obviously was no official Press Release, or we certainly would have heard more from TV News.

What these two did, and when city cops crash cars over and over---(I won't mention a name)---they all give good cops a bad name.

And the two that are the subject of this thread, were not thinking about the community or their job, they were playing. All that can happen now, is they should be shunned from other Police work.

Want to make a bet? One of them gets rehired.
Second bet, want to guess which one?

Today's Full Moon will affect your love life significantly during the next few months. You might have to say goodbye to someone you care about, or you may realize some difficult truths about your relationship. You may also have to make a tricky decision about a child or a creative project.
