Suicide is the easy out for local police. It's sad because the families will NEVER have closure
So, what's so complicated about how these two died ... suicide vs. homicide -conclusion ???

One found buried, and one shot in the stomach ... same or different incidents ???

I'd figure their families would have pressed authorities for case closure, especially if they knew people in high places ...

On June 1st, 1995 The death of a Jamestown mother of three has been officially ruled a homicide. The Erie County medical examiner's office said an autopsy on Melissa M. Case, 23, of 103 Cooke Ave. showed she died of blunt-force trauma to the head and neck. Chautauqua County Coroner John Sixbey issued the homicide ruling. Ms. Case's body was found on the floor of their home. There were no visible wounds. The victim's boyfriend, David J. Fie, 31, with whom she lived, called 911 and said he stabbed himself. Police found him in a pool of blood with several stab wounds to his chest. "We have listed no person as a suspect as yet," Detective Lt. Randall Present said. "I know there will be inferences drawn but at this point we would like to stay away from that."
..........Does any one know if this was ever solved? Why would this guy stab himself? Wouldnt he be considered a suspect?
I know the entire story. He didn't stab himself. He murdered her. He got away with it. He is walking free.

<quoted text> MARK PAVLOCK ? WHY IS HE ON THE LIST?

Maybe the letter that appeared earlier this month on Barbara Pavlock’s blog,“Murder in
Cattaraugus County: A True Crime in Search of Justice”, for Monday August 11, 2014.
will answer your question as to why Mark Pavlock’s name appears on this blog.
Barbara Pavlock is Mark Pavlock’s sister. Full details of the crime that the NYSP failed
to investigate properly can be read on her blog.

Mark Pavlock died under very suspicious circumstances, and the NY State Police
conducted a very shabby investigation.

(1) The NYSP either couldn’t figure out that Marowski (who was then a Salamanca cop)
had any connection to Mark Pavlock, much less that he was having an affair with Mark
Pavlock’s wife, as this letter states, or they deliberately concealed that information with the
“blue wall of silence” even though they also knew Marowski had a pretty shabby public
record. The NYSP even knew that Marowski had a strong and suspicious public argument
with Mark Pavlock on the day before he was killed.

(2)The NYSP had no reasonable explanation about:
[a] the presence of the gas can inside the truck,
[b] the lack of a fire trail which should have been left on the ground by a burning man
crawling for 50-60’ or so,
[c] the wound on the victim’s head, or
[d] the significant amount of Mark Pavlock’s blood left in the driveway where he regularly
parked his truck.

(3) The NYSP, as their report shows, did not even know that Mark Pavlock had been
visiting a neighbor shortly before he was killed. They couldn’t even identify any one he
had talked to the day he was killed.

The NYSP look like they dropped the ball on this one.

You can read the actual--well, the heavily redacted--police report on the Pavlock blog "Murder in Cattaraugus County."

The police determined it was an accident, but said--and repeatedly said--they actually believed it was a suicide. Suicide is ridiculous based on the facts of the case.

Among their conclusions, they found no significant connections to the ex-cop Marowski (there are two major suspicious connections), they failed to check phone records (even when asked several times to do so; later saying, "yes, we'll check them," and then refusing to do so); they failed to talk with the attending physician at the Burn Unit; they didn't explain the blood in Mark Pavlock's driveway.

In short, they came to the conclusions they wanted to without investigating the evidence fully.

You mean they don't get paid to investigate murder cases?

The system is supposed to work in all cases, but it obviously doesn't.

All I can say is I left that town many years ago, not many competent police officers in town (I'm talking Kowalski, Agnelli, Gimbrone, and I can't remember all of the "foot cops" )and if they were competent and recognized for being so they did go to "somewhat" better positions. Ernie Travis is top of the list he went on to the Sheriffs Department, but they could only do what they were allowed to do!
Anyhow one of the first names I saw on here was the Bromley murder/death. Tom Bromley was married to Angela Nicholson as in "Nicholsons", that back in the time was a bar which was right next to the river on Main Street on the same side that the Texas Hot was on, Angelas parents were Angelo & Suzy/Susie? Nicholson. You are talking old school. I believe if I recall correctly Angelo had passed on by then, Suzy was very well known to be very apt with guns and was not overly affectionate for her son-in-law. If I remember correctly she was suspected and questioned but it was more or less swept under the carpet at that time.

Just some memory lane comments - John Yawarsky (Yawdog) was another cop - Tom Spry was one too, cool - remember the restaurant - I used to take that rickety stairway along the side of the building from the bridge sidewalk level down to the basement level, on my way to St Pat's. I think it finally fell into the river. It was scary during high water - foolish kids!

It was quite the town, I hated when they started tearing everything down and building their MALL. So much history was torn down for that project, from the Brown Derby on down, Harveys & Careys, Bill Bests Barber Shop, the tailor shop, the Sugar Bowl, Libs, Tates, Fitzgeralds, the Torge, R&B Market. That's just the ones off the top of my head. I remember those rickety old stairs & the restaurant side of Nicholsons, I think they rented rooms upstairs too in that building. Not sure if the tore the entire section down or not. Memory Lane, that town sure isn't what it used to be, it's SAD!
