what happened to make the dogs attack the two? pit bulls have gotten a bad rep. but dogs dont just attack for no reason at all. the sad truth is that the dogs will probobly be put down even though it was a lot of the owners fault for having the large dogs around the small child. we will all be praying for the little girl.

there are no more pitbull attacks than there are any other. its just that the news is more likely to report a pit bull attack or a rottweiler attack rather than a chihuahua.

Freakin MORONS! How many times does this story have to be retold before poeple show some responsibility with these dogs? They need to be treated with respect, like a loaded weapon. Any dog can attack,true, but poodles do not get people airlifted to hospitals or worse.Sad...

These pit bulls are a plague! Just three hours ago, another 3 year old was killed by a pit bull at Camp Lejeune. I pray this child will survive and recover, but when do we say enough with these ugly killers? These dogs should have been banned yesterday!

When are people going to start blaming the pet owners instead of the animals themselves?? It's obvious by the pictures that the female pit bull has either had puppies recently or is already pregnant. Ask the owners if these dogs are spayed/neutered and the answer will be, "No." Too many people breed pits for the wrong reasons. It's insane that a dog GROOMER needs more licensing and training than a dog breeder. The owners should be charged with endangerment of a child and should be assessed to determine whether or not these dogs were abused and/or neglected.

I agree one hundred percent with Laura. I've worked in the veterinary medicine field for years and have had the crap bitten out of me by toy breeds and small breed dogs, but I have NEVER been bitten by a pit. You never see in the news, "Man viciously attacked by toy poodle," but believe me, it happens all of the time! People just don't hear about it because most people won't complain about, report and sue over a toy breed bite. Who wants to sound like a weenie? If people DID report these occurances, Chihuahuas, Miniature Pins, Pomeranians and other small breeds would be on the "breed restriction" list in many apartment buildings.

to the others... the reason you hear more about "pit bull attacks" is because pits are popular right now , it used to be dobermans and rots now its pits .. someday it'll be another breed .

you don't hear about chihuahua or poodle attacks on the news because they aren't popular and no they dont send people airlifted to hospitals because they are weak little dogs that can't do much damage but they are and can be just as mean .
i've never been charged at by a snarling barking pit bull , but i have been charged at by a lab,chihuahua,pom, chow chow i've been bit by a chihuahua and a shihtzu .

Pit bulls are kind loving dogs, they just need the right owner that can take the time to TRAIN them .

so will this lady be charged or put in jail since her dog's attacked the child? we do have new laws now for this kind of stuff!

Exthem - banning is not the answer, the answer is weeing out the irresposnible owners.

banning pit bulls today will only lead to another breed tomorrow and repeating tell there are no more dogs left in the world.

I had a dog by the name of Camry that was attacked and killed by 2 pit bulls back in November. Channel 11 covered that for us and I have been trying to get Haltom City to pass a Breed Specific Legislation, but the State has to pass this before the city will touch it. I hear more and more about pit bull attacks. Isn't this enough? What will it take to change the laws to protect our loved ones and pets from this vicious animal?

If the parents kept a better eye on the toddler this wouldn't of happen plus i wouldn't of let a big dog around my child. Careless people now days

whose dogs? the aunts? someone made the decision to allow that little girl around 2 vicious pits. they should be prosecuted. this is an outrage.

Oh come on. So you mean to tell me that being attacked by a toy breed is comparable to being attacked by a pit bull, rot, doberman, German Shephard, Chow or any other breed known to be vicious?

I am 30 and I still remember when my cat was attacked by the pit that lived next door. My dad and a bunch of other men in the neighborhood had to pry it's mouth open with a crow bar. Luckily my cat ripped off its nose and then a couple weeks later it was killed when the owner took it to a construction site and scaffolding fell on it. My cat survived with 3 broken legs and puncture wounds.

I absolutely hate pits since a friend of mine was attacked by her own family pet. I hated them before. I will also not let my children be around Rots, Dobermans or Chows.

Your absolutely nuts if you think a toy breed bite is as bad as a pit or other large breed. I have never heard of a child being airlifted in very critical condition because of a small dog bite.

How did the dogs get into the house? Were the owners dogs? OR how did the dogs unlock the door? More to this story!

Why do we keep hearing about this.
Are the law enforcement people so stupid that they have to have their kids killed before they pass a law to have one of these dogs?

Laura, I'm sorry I have to disagree with you. Pitbulls are naturally attack dogs. They will turn on the owner or children at any given time. Just like certain dogs are predisposed to have certain illnesses. The temperment is no different. I had 2 pitbulls and I used to say all the time that they are a couple of Teddybears. Although they never attacked a human before, they did attack 2 dogs that was 2 times bigger than they were at White Rock Lake. The owners of the other 2 dogs didn't have them on leashes and they ran over to Boss and Boston. That is the only thing that save me from getting fined and them being taken away. When I saw the attack I was shocked at what they could do. I didn't know these dogs anymore. My husband had to beat them off the other dogs with a stick. When I bacame pregnant with my 3rd child I decided to give them away. I didn't want to take any chances that they would be jealous of my baby and attack him. Truth is I LOVE dogs and the 2 pits I have were my favorite dogs (except my Golden Retreiver) out of all the dogs I had but they do have an aggression (spelling) problem. It's in their blood to attack for no reason. They didn't need a reason, they just wanted to. They have so many triggers that you can't even count them. A family that has children under 13 years should not have pitbulls because the are unpredictable. I hope this baby pulls through....my prayers go out to this family.

They should have responsible owners and the people that own them SHOULD NOT have any children. I don't think they need to be banned.
