Here are the EXACT words from the San Francisco Chronicle’s interview with Obama in 2008 where this lie began with the Repub propaganda machine. No where in the coal plant answer does Obama EVER use the word I. You lying POS Repubs.
Obama's statement came after being asked about NEW EPA rules that were ALREADY coming into effect.( RULES that GHW Bush had signed into law by the way)

Benefits Paid to Members of Congress

You may have read that Members of Congress do not pay into Social Security. Well, that's a myth.

Prior to 1984, neither Members of Congress nor any other federal civil service employee paid Social Security taxes. Of course, they were also not eligible to receive Social Security benefits. Members of Congress and other federal employees were instead covered by a separate pension plan called the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). The 1983 amendments to the Social Security Act required federal employees first hired after 1983 to participate in Social Security. These amendments also required all Members of Congress to participate in Social Security as of January 1, 1984, regardless of when they first entered Congress. Because the CSRS was not designed to coordinate with Social Security, Congress directed the development of a new retirement plan for federal workers. The result was the Federal Employees' Retirement System Act of 1986.

Members of Congress receive retirement and health benefits under the same plans available to other federal employees. They become vested after five years of full participation.

Members elected since 1984 are covered by the Federal Employees' Retirement System (FERS). Those elected prior to 1984 were covered by the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). In 1984 all members were given the option of remaining with CSRS or switching to FERS.

All of this is correct. However you have not covered the most important point in this retirement thing.
When the Congress person retires, the money collected and put aside into their PAC`s,that which they have set aside to keep on running for their job, taken from all the special interests and lobbyists and the constituents they could con out of money to do the job they were voted to do,and this often amounts into hundreds of thousands or more,They can take with them. This seems wrong! To me there is sometimes a way to correct a bad situation, and this collection of money is one of them.It begs for a sold vote. Two ways to correct this situation, each State can go for term limits, some already have.Another way is to abolish this collecting money and lobbyists.Special interests giving money should be prosecuted for vote buying. So,sorry to be long in my point, maybe not so clear in writing.,but you get the point? My earlier comment was'The systems are broken"!!!

While this is truth, none will concede and will deny.It is not in them to believe that which is in front of them,if it obfuscates what they have been told and taught. They are incapable of clear eyed observation.

The problem now is that while the DOW is up and moving toward 14,000 again, with the economy the way it is and particularly if Obama should win, this time at 14,000 we should dump to cash,or gold and silver.

You really think it matters which bought-and-paid-for political party is in power? Wall Street owns both of them. Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Morgan Stanley control assets equal to 60% of the country's GDP. That's where the power lies. What goes on in Washington is simply a sideshow to keep people divided and distracted. The so-called "tea party" is just another example of the sideshow. The real owners of the country are laughing their asses off.

The economic slide/failure started in '06 under Bush. Remember TARP? That was Bush, too. It had nothing to do with who was elected, in this case Obama. The Great Depression took 15 years to recover from. Who, in their right mind, with more people looking for less jobs this time around, can believe that ANYONE can fix this mess in 2 or more terms, never mind 1. That is naivete of the highest order.

Harvey---This is why so often have written on here and else where that the idea of our politicians and particulerly Conggressional persons have to be removed from the ability of collecting funds from any one or where ever. This leads to the vote having been bought and sold to the one doing the giving.Only when this collecting has been removed, will we get back to a somewhat more honest gov`t.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Aries

Keep a firm grip on your money today to avoid anyone else getting their mitts on it. If you're out in public you should keep your wallet or bag clamped to your side, just in case it goes walkabout. You should also make sure you check any bills and invoices that you're given, in case they contain a mistake. It's a day when errors and deceptions are highly likely.
