How much are Obama critics' views colored by race?

Full story: TwinCities.com

Eight months into Barack Obama's presidency, as criticism of his administration seems to reach new levels of volume and intensity each week, the whispers among some of his allies are growing louder: That those who loathe the nation's first African-American president, and especially those who would deny his citizenship, are driven at least in part ...

Yup. It's all racism. Just keep telling yourself that to justify your never-ending tale of woe about everything from war to health care to union jobs.

Typical elitist liberal media. Anyone that opposes their point of view is a racist, sexist, etc. The only issue with Obama is his extreme, radical, socialist, anti-American policies that he is blatantly misrepresenting to the American people.

Objections to Obmama have nothing to do with race, this is merely another tactic to distract from his socialist message. Who care what color the President is, socialism is socialism.

I would hope that if you disapprove of what Obama is doing or his policies, that's what you are against. Whether his skin was any color. I guess I am getting tired of "if you disagree, then you are a racist."

This is a load of crap. The people with the most radical views are often the most outspoken about them. Just because a few racist protesters are marching and speaking out does not mean that the majority of those opposing President Obama are doing so based on race. He is trying to make changes that the American ideal has opposed since our country decided to become independent. The hand of government should not interfere with peoples daily/personal lives. We pay taxes in order for the government to protect us from domestic and foreign threats. Not so they can control our choices on health care, economics, freedom of speech, right to bear arms etc...

I've noticed the people I know that speak loudest against him don't like black people. And, I think there's a general paranoia among conservatives that if he does well there will be other black/latino/asian and even god forbid, women presidents. Why shouldn't we root for anyone who is President to do a good job for all of us no matter what race or gender? Instead, some of us work against the possiblity of someone doing a good job because he might not be "one of us." It's sad...

It sure can't be about a terrible policy of spend until it causes irreversible chaos. When the facts show that someone, who is in power and not 'white', makes a mistake, it's time to use the only weapon left...the race card. I could win bets on this every time.

What he represents might be anti-american to you, but as I recall last November a majority of americans voted for his policies.

Opposition to Obama has nothing to do with his race for most of his foes. Opposition to Obama is about his agenda for America, his constant lies, his ardent refusal to prove where he was born, his support for Acorn, his appointment of Zsars to make major decisions that effect our lives, his support for terrorist muzlim peoples, his desire to take control of private business, his ambitions to take control of 15-20% of the US economy with his health care agenda, his cap and trade initiatives which will cripple American business and give him the tools to further control our lives, his refusal to allow America to utilize our natural resources so we may become dependent upon ourselves for our energy needs. Obama is hell bent upon destroying America and the freedoms that have always been the American culture. He is guided by far left wing interests with the same agenda for the future of America. I don't trust him, I don't like him and I will never call him my president. This movement in America against Obama and the liberal progressive party will continue to grow and we WILL take back our country and our freedom.

Are you kidding...most people don't care one way or another about his race. There are a whole lot of conservatives who would have been more than happy to support Condelessa Rice if she had ran (both African American and a woman). It is not just Obama's policies, but his decisions on a great many issues and appointments that are feared to have a horrifying affect on the future well being of this country.

And his world tour apology for the "arrogance" of America basically spit on the graves of all who shed their blood and sacrificed not only for this nation, but for other nations as well.

Obama has not sacrificed one dime for this country, yet now he is leading it!

At absolute best Obama is a novice who has an extreme liberal left agenda path that most do not want to go on, knowing the consequences are absolutely disasterous to the country and way of life.

Obama's treatment by the right is really no different then how the left (and the media) treated President Bush. Unfortunately that has become a normal part of politics...political leverage for agendas and power being more important than serving the overall well being of the citizens who elected elected them to office in the first place.

I agree. If it were Hillary that had made it in, we would have all been sexist if we didn't like what she was pushing.

Why must they always play the race card? Why can't we just not like what people are doing because we don't like what they are doing? I always feel the ones that are crying "racist" the loudest...really need to get over their "poor me" attitude and start getting to what really is bothering them.

I'm to the point where the white people are the only ones who can't yell "racist" and we get screwed more than anyone else because we aren't a "minority". I'm sick and tired of it...but will sit back and take it because that is what we do.

I don't like Obama and his decisions he is making....who the people behind him really are...etc. I don't trust the man and even if he was 100% white I still wouldn't trust him.

Americans elected President Obama and turned aside racism.

Obama on the other hand has radical racists as his associates. Rev Wright, Van Jones, Prof Gates and Sotomayor and all been on record ranting about "whitey". Obama himself has race baited cops.

This in clearly a racist and divisive administration.

Guys, come on. What is not to like about a $1.2 trillion monthly deficit, 9.6% unemployment, nationalization of privet industry, and the push towards more federally run social programs. Seriously the only possible reason why you could dislike any of this would be because you are racist!

Its total crap that there are 'whispers' about obama cricism being racist--obama supporters have been shouting it at the top of their lungs from the highest building from the very beginnings of the campaign.

Because liberals absolutely must have 90% of the black vote to stay in power, they are going to fan the flames of race-paranoia in every way they have the capacity to imagine--this is the reality of their power base and has nothing to do with reality.

The candidate of the media-party, obama, is floundering, and the media is spinning for him as hard as they can. Guess we are to believe that americans are increasingly racist the more obama screws up. Welcome back Carter!

And nothing that Obama is proposing even remotely resembles socialism. However, if you read the threads here, the racism is quite manifest.

Are you feeling fraught? It certainly seems that way, perhaps because you've got far too much on your plate and not nearly enough time to tackle it all. Do yourself a big favor and start with whatever is most urgent, otherwise you'll waste time by dithering or getting caught up in trivial tasks. Above all, don't get into a panic because that will squander valuable time and energy.
