I would like to know how many more people in the community are suffering because of their internet service. It is like they have a monopoly on the phone lines and the internet around here, and they know they can provide crappy service to their customers.

Yep! We have frontier and we are stuck with them because we live too far off the road to get any other service. Our internet sucks! It's so slow!

I have frontier also only because we live too far off the road for cable and satellite is too expensive. It really does suck that we pay so much and the service is so bad and that we have no choice! I do more on my iPhone than my computer now because it is faster!

We own two homes in different parts of Rutledge. One is off the road somewhat, and the other is right on 11W.
It's amazing (according to my husband) how much difference there is in the speed of the internet.
The newer house has almost three times the speed of internet, and it's the same company. I don't understand how these things work, but my husband works from home often, and he installs internet and lightwave systems for Verizon.
He says that the phone company is unlikely to speed up our home internet because we're so far from the main lines that go up 11W, and we live at the dead end of a road.
It's just not lucrative enough for the phone company to run better service to our home location.
I've talked with Mike Byrd (the general manager of the phone company) about this, but there's been no improvement or change.
In Rutledge, it's the same ol' same ol'.

My whole neighborhood goes out once a month for a whole day. Everyone has called and they still haven't fixed anything. There has been a messed up pone line in the main box on our street, every time someone calls to complain about the static in the line they just come out and switch it to another house instead of fixing it. It has been that way for 10 years. I don't see them ever doing better by us, unless some other company comes in to compete and that's not going to happen. The "Good Ole' Boys" won't let it.

Considering I used to only could use dial-up before, I'm still appreciate DSL. I have problems, but it is part of the growing pains you experience as a rural customer. My uncle has traveled the world setting up telecommunications stations in very remote areas and explained to me the further you are away from the access point of the ISP, the weaker your connection is, because as it travels to you, every single person who is also accessing the internet before you is slowing down the speed you ultimately end up with.

Another factor is your computer memory gets so bogged down with things it's collected on the internet, it'll add to the problem. I'm obsessive about computer maintenance, I always make sure everyone in our household keeps their computers defraged, as well as the cache cleaned. Considering we have a PS3 and Wii running wirelessly, an Xbox 360 and desktop hooked to ethernet cables and 2 laptops using wireless...with the occasional ipod touch logging in....I get a fairly good connection for only 3 megs. I'd like faster and hope they make improvements as soon as possible. And if what I've been told is true, it's something they plan on improving.

We've called Charter, but like everyone else, we are just out of range. Though, I've talked to people who aren't all that thrilled with Charter either.

The one thing I can say about Frontier, is they have excellent customer service. That goes a long way in quieting my discontent as they work to improve internet speeds.

My community has continuosly had internet problems since it's inception. We are one mile off 11-w and Charter cable is within 1/2 mile of our road. I, too, went thru the "bundling" deal with Frontier and was promised 3mgs and a lower price. When I got my first bill after bundling, it was $30 more than before and I have yet to get the 3 mgs. I found out 5 months ago that our line is not capable of handling more than 1 mg. I am in the process of getting a petition signed to present to Charter about getting their cable installed on our road. I don't know if the service (and price) will be any better if they do install their cable, but it would be nice to have a choice. Anyone else notice that service goes down, or slows, after a heavy rain? You'd think that in the year of 2012 that there would be a product made that would waterproof a connection, wouldn't you?

I also live in the area of Woodman and was more than happy to sign a petition for cable. Our service cant get much worse than we have with Frontier. If I get 1mg. that is a great day and it rarely happens. It is a normal thing to be cut off when online. My son can take his computer to his girlfriends and download in 30 minutes on cable. At home it can take days.If it rains you can forget having internet. I have been a customer of Frontier for over 16 years and have never been late on any payments. They want me to take a contract for 1,2 3,years to get my price decreased and locked in. Should'nt I allready get a deal on my services for being a loyal good customer. Instead of going up $20 because im not under contract. Why would I want to agree to a contract of such sorry service. Cable may have problems also but I allready have problems.

Considering the "old farts" that run this county I would say we are lucky just to have the Internet....We need as a county to get with the times and realize all the "sin" we are holding back is just one county away..ie: beer sales on Sunday...guess what...Johnny Six pack will be more than happy to give his money to Hamblen, Hawkins, Or Knox county on Sunday...so thanks old farts its not like we need the money in the county...ohhh wait!!!! The county does need the money...get the old out and bring in some plp that are normal....same goes for Internet Mr. Byrd has his hand in the counties pocket to keep AT&T, Verizon, and Charter out...I say no more big business owners (or managers) for commissioners...their bank accounts are fat enough...

Our service has been acting up a lot this past week. Cutting out and staying out for a bit. It's frustrating. I was wondering if it might be my router, but if other people are having trouble it might be in the connection.
