The wife and I were looking for a place to live after we got married. We looked all over (Orange, Spotsy, Caroline), but when we visited Ladysmith Village, all bets were off for any of the other places. We also really liked Idlewild in Fredericksburg (same type of community), but Ladysmith Village was planning to have more parks and open spaces. Also, the location closer to Richmond allows for more job opportunities (I was working in Fredericksburg, but now I'm working in Richmond). We were able to get a great deal (at the time) on a new construction home, and couldn't resist. With the new school, future YMCA, future county park, and new library... it just seemed like the perfect place to start our life together and raise a family.

Also, once I read the Ladysmith Area Comprehencive Plan, I was sold. When I found out that the style of Ladysmith Village would be reflected on all new construction in the Ladysmith Area... it made me feel a lot better about how Ladysmith would grow.

I grew up in Spotsy, and saw the sprawl go further and further down Rt. 3... I don't want to see that happen here.

I have been here my whole life. Even tricked my hubby into buying/building us a new home here he loves it as much as I do. He had always been familiar to the area so the trick wasn't such a bad trick.

Now I need to trick him into a new car lol. When I noticed while driving past the high school student lot today the students have better cars than I do.:P So how about it John? hehehehe :X

the real question for me is, how do i get out of this place, you can keep all your historical and tradtional ways and talk about what happened 200 years ago, i need a walmart, strip clubs, fast food joints all over the place.

"the real question for me is, how do i get out of this place"

This only you can answer. Why are you here?

Everything takes time, the people with 200 historical questions and traditional ways of talking are wanting to learn more of the County/Area in whicg they live. What's wrong with that the subject was mentioned here early on? You are saying you "need" a walmart, strip club fast foods if you need it or want it, it would be a nice time for you to put your opinions out here about those if you plan on staying here. For now today they are "wants" and not "needs" and we really have to get it right if this becomes a plan. Working together is a good idea.

Maybe you can share where you get your haircut, the dentist you use and the type toothpaste you recommend? Your thoughts on these are inflicted as personal attacks none that would be bought or thought of at a planning meeting. That is not what it is all about.

I have always lived in the County with the exception of going to College. People are so surprised that I am from Caroline Co and hold a Master's degree. Went to Caroline schools, my children attend Caroline schools with no problems and we do not have mullets nor rotted teeth. If you choose to move to the County for "country-living", then understand that there will be trees and less urban sprawl. If you want the strip clubs, Walmarts, convenience stores at your fingertips, stay up North. I can't stand transplants who continually complain about everything about the County when they chose to move here. It's a wonderful place to live if everyone can get over the meddling and complaining.

Moved here 20 years ago. Found the area affordable - work in Fred. Living in lake community is attractive - although I don't have waterfront and that hasn't seemed to matter. Boats can be a pain to maintain anyway.
Have been involved in community and parks an rec activities when the kids were younger. That's key GET INVOLVED!

We went looking for houses about a year ago and found one I fell in love with in LLO and tried for months to get a viewing on the house. (the realtors suck here) Never got to see that house so we kept looking in the neighborhood and found the one we now have after alot of issues with the bank. (they suck too) It's a wonder anything gets sold here. While other realtors were throwing houses at us. The ones we really liked were here in Caroline. After being in the neighborhoods and researching the area we fell in love with the community. We love the country feel. We love the stars shinging at night. We love the people around town. The teachers and school staff are really friendly and easy to deal with. There is nothing that we feel is unpleasant yet. Other than the fight we had on our hands to get in. It has been smooth sailing and we are very happy we moved here.

I came here with my husband and two kids...we are on military orders in 05..
we are currently awaiting orders for an overseas assignment. Our decision to buy a house here in Caroline County was pure heat from an over-priced market in more desirable areas...in fact in is almost unheard of fore an active duty family to be this far out in the woods. I had my researvations and I was right it simply was not worth it. You should never ever buy a house simply becuase it is affordable. There is a lot to be desired in Caroline without it becoming a big box city...and unless you are a phuckin pilgrim this is not a place where you want to be. If you are among the unfortunate to be upside down in your house, well go figure. The area has taken a hit from hell and has turned into a mix-income/rental
community. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for this boom2bust town lol.

I saw that you are living in Ladysmith Village. We have a house for rent and or for sale in Ladysmith and we were wondering if you know of anyone who would be interested in renting or buying. Let me know if you would be able to help and I will give you all the details including pictures. Thanks

We have a townhouse - 3 BR, 2.5 Bath with 2 car garage for rent or sale in Ladysmith. It is really a lovely home and if you are familiar with Ladysmith, you know about all of the amenities that come along with living there. There are walking trails, a library, clubhouse, pool and many things to enjoy when living in the secluded village. Write us at eschlee@indy.rr.com if you would like more information. Thanks
