Russell County is behind Somerset again with Somerset going wet. We had a chance to be first in tourism. Now that end of the lake will thrive and we will be behind!!

Yes,Russell County is way way way behind. They want this to be a tourist destination, and retirement community, well tourists drink and so do retirees. Now everyone can go to somerset and do everything they want to do, I guess this little one horse town has kicked it's own butt again. Now it will roll up completely. Most of the churches are made up of family members and don't want any outsiders to come in, if they do their not welcome. Also a lot of the church members are closet drinkers anyway, so why hide it? Get with the program people. Alcohol is not a sin it's like anything else, the over use of it is. Gluttony is a sin, but I see an awful lot of overweight preachers and church members. Your judged by the seeds that you sow. I say let's get out of the 1950's and let this town grow to what it should be. We could have so much here. We've got location just off what is soon to be I-66, we're on the lake, we have a lot of unutilized real estate that could be used for a lot of things that could be beneficial to this community in the form of revenue. Wake up everybody and do what you can to make it change.

Have you noticed all the church "Family Life Centers"going up in all teh big churches lately . They want members going to church seven days a week now with something happening at church every day . Churches want any extra disposable, discretionary money avalble from members going into that collection plate and not some heathen Indian convenience store selling beer and wine!

I am happy to see that there are people out there that see what opportunities that we have for this county. Now don't get me wrong, I believe wholly in God, but ANYTHING can be a sin if done in excess. Before the bible thumpers get started, I know that the body is the temple of God and we shouldn't do anything that defiles it. However, whoever is going to drink excessively will do it regardless. The people need to get together and stop this nonsense. The few are holding this county back, the masses want it to grow. Stop letting the few intimidate you, their just people, and regardless of how they think they are above everyone else, they are no smarter than the rest of us. They may have a little more money but so what. Things like going wet would help this county grow tremendously. It would be a great start.

It is all about power and control and dominance. If the ruling "clique" can control the churches, courts, law, and banks they can dictate every aspect of peoples lives.

They only have power, control and dominance because everyone lets them. They set behind a desk with a suit on and it intimidates people. Most of them only have a GED, no formal education at all. Just try asking them some inteligent questions and see what answer they give you. The people can take control back if they try. This county has so much potential, we need to utilize it. Going wet would be a step in the right direction.

Right ask any called to gawd, uneducated preacher anything remotely about the bible and you will get nothing but memorized spewing of some verse out of the old testament. It is amazing that how some educated people will sit and listen to these idiots.

A true "called by God" preacher does not have that mindset. I am, and will remain, completely FOR everyone's legal right to purchase alcohol, but to lump sum ALL pastors in this manner is not at all helpful.

I find your comment rather revolting.
(Whatever MY opinion might mean to you, of course).

There are some good people of the Lord who play 'nice'. Their heart is in the right place and they don't cram their own beliefs down everyone elses throats using the Bible as a mallet. And then again, some choose to play dirty. It backfired on them in Somerset this time. THOSE are the ones we are all very well aware of.

As one of our registered users in another thread stated yesterday: "There may be an awful lot of I'm sorry's coming from a few pulpits come next Sunday morning".
(Personally, I'd not hold my breath).

In Russell County, the "called to gawd, uneducated" preachers far outnumber the "true 'called by God'" ministers. As someone else said on this board a few weeks ago, many a man has mistaken the love of fried chicken as the call to preach.

Sorry you feel that way. All my money goes to my family, but I don't knock people who want a social drink, there's nothing wrong with it as long as it is done in moderation "Believer". Have you actually read your bible or do you listen to what others say? I said that I wholly believe in God. It is not my place to judge others. There are some who depend on alcohol, and that is wrong but they will get their drink in spite of everything. For your information alcohol can also be medicinal. I myself am not a drunk, in fact I don't consume alcohol at all, but I don't judge those that do. We can't stand in judgement of anyone.

Don't bother trying to change inbred Russell county morons. They are hopeless, will never change and not worth the effort.
