Bethel's Woodstock museum recalls 1969 music fest

Full story: Newsday

Finally, I made it to Woodstock. It only took me 39 years. I still have two tickets to Woodstock, because when the older guy who had wheels heard the traffic reports, he bailed.

Wait a minute...despite the fact that the business plan for the concert included the making and selling of a film, despite the fact the promoters went on to promote numerous anniversary concerts that they used to shell the kids of the 60's generation, and despite the fact that there were few true alternative thinkers at the concert (most were 'me too' hippy wanna-bees); shouldn't we be really bothered by the whole idea of a museum? Isn't this the anti-thesis to the whole message?...even if the message is more legend at this point. At least Neil Young got it right. He refused to the release to allow his image to be used in the film.

We bought 3 day tickets at Cousin's music store on Fordham Rd in The Bronx.
We were waiting on line and I remember someone yelling to get your tickets ready and then someone responded "Hey the fences are down" At that point everyone started to throw their tickets up in the air. I wished I had the foresight to gather them up but the tab of Sunshine I had consumed clouded my judgment.

The biggest problem was the lack of drinking water. I remember looking out of our tent in the morning and looking out across the road to the wooden sheds that had huge picnic tables. At
the tables were sleeping gentlemen who had a pile of empty beer cans piled up in front of them. I remember thinking that they would be pretty thirsty when they woke up.

The lack of water caused an early exit and we had to walk to Monticello to get a bus. I remember losing one of my sandals and in a fit of anger tossed the remaining sandal into the lake. I then realized that one sandal would have been better then none. I then squeezed my size 12 into a friends size 8 socks.

It was hot on that trek to Monticello and a bit uncomfortable with the soxed
feet. But it was on this trek that I remember the residents of Bethel, who had every reason to hate this infusion of people, coming out of their houses and setting up tables with fresh water and snacks for all the people who were "marching". It was a lesson for me as to the generosity of people that still brings tears to my eyes when I reminisce.

BTW I was very surprised to find out God didn't have a beard.

The author should be more careful about how he calls this museum. The "Woodstock Museum" is actually outside the town of Woodstock in West Saugerties, NY (woodstockmuseum.org and woodstockmuseum.com ). The museum at Bethel is a completely different place.

Where did the time go.My heart still feels 21 and My love still as intense..We couldnt wait to get there, left the car on the side of the road and walk over the fence with people that still believe LOVE and Peace is the only way........ I was a pretty sight barefoot and Pregnant, straight, so I saw people free of the binds and yet we still managed to grow up and function in society...Which we never really wanted to do AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Life
