My husband, Dan, and I are moving to Braham, MN from Cottage Grove, MN. We miss the country and small community that we had when we lived in Downsville, WI some 10 years ago. We currently homeschool our four children. We are interested in acquiring information regarding Braham's Homeschool Community.

I agree with cms, Braham isn't always very nice to it's "outsiders." I moved there at age 7 (I'm 23 now) and there are still people who treat me like crap because I'm not "one of them."
As for homeschooling, there's not a huge amount of it that I'm aware of. There's a decent number of people who've open enrolled their kids in other schools because Braham doesn't have as many opportunities as other places.
Sorry I can't be more helpful than that. I imagine someone at one of the schools would know something about it: http://www.braham.k12.mn.us/page.php... (go to the bottom of the page, that's where the phone numbers are.)

You can always ask the Minnesota Homeschoolers' Alliance to send you a copy of their support group directory. Just email mha@homeschoolers.org. Oh, and if you are a member of MHA, the Membership Coordinator can help out by sending an email to homeschoolers in or around Braham on your behalf.

I went to Braham once and I agree with Lynnie, they arent very kind to outsiders, in fact they are quite rude. When I went to one of the resturaunts my family and I were stared at the whole time and when we finished eating we went to walk out the door and we were rudely shouldered by a man and his family and had to get out of the way so that we didnt fall over. Nice people.

First, I lived in North Branch and homeschooled. I learned a lot from that district about the red tape involved, and books and tests available for homeschooling. Then I moved to Braham district. I found out very quickly that the red tape was easy in this district, but there were no tests or books available. I suppose the red tape was extra easy because they just wanted me to go away. And, they even figured out a way to 'use' my kid to up their district's public scores once. I was never able to get the money back for my school supplies in Braham, like I was in North Branch. This year they decided I wasn't in their district and told me to go to Pine. What a good change! This is like North Branch, again, with services, books, and tests available.

What these people are saying about Braham is NOT true. I'm 25 and grew up my whole life in Braham. If you come to the town, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER TOWN, with a bad attitude, your going to be treated how you treat people. Braham does not have any other rules than any other town. Actually, there called LAWS and citizens in Braham like to abide by them. You also have to realize that because Braham is so small, everyone knows everyone, so you may feel like an outsider, but really, you'd be an outsider in a big city as well, but it doesn't feel as much like it because not everyone knows everyone.

If you moved there when you were 7 and feel like an outsider now, well then you must have a bad attitude. Sorry, but at 7, you're not going to feel like an outsider. Everyone in Braham gets along with everyone unless you act like you're better than them or have a bad attitude.

I lived in Braham for 2 years - as a choice I drove my children to another school district. I found Braham to be a very closed community. The only time people where nice is when they were selling pies.
Have to agree with the above comments it is a difficult close knit community.

I agree with the negative comments here. The people I know in Braham are horrible - and they are not concerned with abiding by laws. Most of them have been arrested at some point for check fraud/ knowingly writing bad checks, assault, harrassment, etc. The judges suck too. They protect the criminals and prosecute the victims. Children of abusive or neglectful parents arent even protected there.

For the most part, I'd stay away from Braham, especially Braham Meadows. One person in particular (by the name of Sabrina Young) will kiss-up, try to be your best friend, and then when she's done using you and taking everything you have, she will do anything she can to destroy your life. Her best friend was in the hospital having brain surgery, and that's when she struck. The friend ended up losing her apartment, her car, and almost her son. I'd do everything I could to stay away from there - there are a couple of good apples, but the rest of the bunch are rotten to the core.

Does anyone know Sabrina Young, her kids, family, or other friends?

Willing to dish out the gossip? Any info on her, her activities, etc?

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Virgo

If you've got an important task to accomplish, this is the time to do it. A Libra Moon ensures that you're level headed, focused and unmoved by the behaviour of others for the next day or so. Don't put any undue pressure on yourself, Virgo: if you don't get it right the first time, you know there'll be another chance. The pessimistic people that you are likely to encounter today need your logic and positive input.
