Thank you to the Ruidoso News for printing the facts!

What was going through the mind of the editor of the Free Press to state "charges filed on at least one juvenile" for the cause of the White Fire? Then to claim a 12 yr. old was charged and publishing a name based on a lie is astonishing. How can a publication get away with this fabrication and ruin the reputation of a family? I guess you get what you pay for! To infer "on at least one juvenile" makes this reader ask who are the others and why aren't their names mentioned. Why point the finger on this child?
Pretty sloppy work for the Free Press. Was this just sensationalism on their part to release a special edition or is there another reason behind this damaging piece of fiction?

Why DID they point the finger at only one child? All should have been named or none should have been named. But really, at those ages, what is the point of naming any? What a shameful example of sloppy reporting.

I agree with you completely, ex councilwoman.
Only people on this blog can smear and ruin the reputation of a family.
On that topic, I think the fire chief and his father in law have framed this young lad, in order to exonerate themselves. Shame, shame, shame

One thing's for sure- Vincent was first on the scene. He admitted that in the paper. He was smart enough to destroy the origin of the fire [ instead of protect it as required by law] so it was likely not possible to prove it started from his father in law burning trash on his own property. White calling his son in law instead of 911 was no accident. As a former volunteer firefighter, White knew he was in deep ca ca if the truth was discovered. Vincent is every bit as complicit as his father in law.

>>> states here that the 13yr old boy's mom is supplying the info on the charges.<<<
Until now, the legal entities involved in the investigation have been quiet but on Tuesday, according to Ruidoso resident and mother of one of the juveniles charged, Melinda Garcia, her son Konor Mantia, now 13 was formally advised of his rights regarding the charge of felony negligent arson by The U.S. Forest Service with 12th Judicial District Attorney Diana Martwick
>>> should the free press reporter not believe what the boy's mom is supplying to her? The article further states that DNA of the boy was found on a matchbox at the scene. I want the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Its been too damn long.

IRRESPECTIVE OF HOW MUCH LAND BURNED IN THE VILLAGE, AND IRRESPECTIVE OF THE FACT THAT VINCENT DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO INVESTIGATE A FIRE, THE VILLAGE WAS ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR A THOROUGH AND COMPLETE INVESTIGATION OF THE FIRE AS WELL AS A DETAILED REPORT TO THE TAXPAYERS ON THE SEQUENCE OF EVENTS THAT LED UP TO THE FIRE (AS IS STANDARD PROCEDURE ON ALL LARGE WILDLAND FIRES), THE CONDITIONS PRESENT DURING THE FIRE, THE FIRE BEHAVIOR, LESSONS LEARNED AND THE FINDINGS OF THE INVESTIGATION, ETC, SIMILAR TO AN AFTER ACTION REVIEW. WHO IN VILLAGE HALL ORDERED THE VILLAGE TO STAY CLEAR OF THE MATTER BECAUSE IT HIT TOO CLOSE TO HOME. THE VILLAGE FAILED TO EXERCISE ITS LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND THEY ARE DERILICT AND I GUESS THEY ARE JUST INCAPABLE OF WRITING A SIMPLE REPORT. AND EVEN IF THE VILLAGE TURNED OVER THE RESPONSIBILITY TO ANOTHER AGENCY OR EXCUSED ITSELF FROM THE INVESTIGATION BECAUSE ONE OF ITS EMPLOYEES AND/OR RELATIVES WAS SUSPECT, THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD AN INVESTIGATOR INVOLVED FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, AND UP TO THE END. WHITE WASH.

Well you are just exactly right. Never ONE word from our pathetic mayor during all this time. Of course he had responsibilities. If nothing else, he should have kept his constituents apprised of the situation. Instead, total cowardly silence. Once again, he was totally cowed by the forces that be (and he ain't one of them.) And that stupid Texan wonders "what issues"?

That report should have included an itemized cost to the tax payers by agency involved, all tactics used by fire fighting personnel (such as leaving firefighters on ridgetops, not securing the suspected area of ignition and the so called IC who sat in the median in the highway in front of Wal Mart watching the fire spread), a deatled transcript of all radio traffic and a discussion of long term impacts (physical and economic) as well as rehabilitation efforts. That would be great to read.

Way to go. Let's not get off topic and away from the real fire causers. Surprised everyone has failed to mention Debbie Lee's involvement.

DNA on the matchbox? That is disgusting and perverted. I smell a cover up! I demand you send Gladys a sample.

The Free Press can state what the mother is supplying. But, the article should have been titled "Mother says charges have been filed". A journalist (esp. the editor) should have gotten a copy of the charges and printed information from the legal document instead of just hearsay from the mother and legal definitions as filler for the "special edition". This is quite a serious matter and deserves journalism better than "The Enquirer" level.
One wonders if there was a leak from the US Attorneys office or from the local DA's office. Worse yet, were the powers behind this "spin" in the Free Press part of the decision making for the charges? Just where did they get this information? Guess we will know who is "wagging the dog" when and if charges are filed!

You are hateful, resentful, spiteful and just plain full of it. Glad you are off the council. Last thing we need around here. You should learn to read, too.
Must be tough for you to not like the answers you have asked for, huh?

Ms Rebstock does not live in San Francisco, there are a lot of us that own homes in Ruidoso and other locations.

Hateful my arse. I would suspect that 99.9 percent of the people in this country believe in responsible journalism. You would be living under a rock if you lived in Ruidoso and were unaware of who owns, spins and distributes this piece of garbage that is referred to as a newspaper. If I was the kid at the recieveing end of this propoganda rag, I would sue the paper. Go stick your head back in the sand.

You expect a report from a manager who can't balance the village checkbook,an Asst. Fire Chief whose first call re: the White Fire was to get permission from the manager to use his fire vehicle, and neither have the formal education as required for their positions?
