who published this at risk list and where was it published so much for trying to shame children by outing them in public for the mistakes of Youth. This town needs a better support for the youth.

"They don't understand that death is permanent," Harrison said.

That is BS, at 16 you know better. At what age do people have to take responsibilty for actions? It is terrible that it happens, mainly for the family, but kids need to be told that it is selfish and the attention your dead body will get isn't worth a damn.

I agree this town needs a better support for the youth. Instead of spending money on freaking dog parks, why not put in a teen center or something for these guys to do. And parents need to be more involved. Holy crap, enough of parents wining after the fact. Know what is going on, and encourage your kids to be involved in something. Be a parent, and quit relying on others to fill that role!

A person that talks about committing suicide is in a very desperate mood - to do it takes a lot more.

Do you really think a person and much less a teenager would give a d@amn for you calling them "selfish"?

Give them kids a good childhood, give them a "nest" and try to understand them when they become "difficult" as every teenager becomes difficult - we all did.

It's so sad to read about these kids being so unhappy and miserable, about them being without a person to open up to. You are right - parents need to be more involved - just like friends, teachers and everyone that is in contact with kids.
Very sorry

Were there NO warning signs for these parents, teachers and friends? This is the most awful thing I have seen happen to our youth here in a long time. Very sad.
Someone needs to pay more attention.

You can't say parents need to be more involved! My brother took his own life in May 2007 and my mom was very involved w/ everything he did! He had tons of family support. And the signs they say to watch for wern't there. And Selfish is the last thing he was. He was an amazing kid, athlete, student, brother, uncle and Dad. So until you have been throug it don't talk trash.

I am so frightened. We have never experienced anything like this here in Lincoln County in all the years I have lived here and attended RHS myself. The kids need to understand that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. For those who believe in God, they should also remember that suicide is the one sin God cannot forgive. God bless and help our children please?
So very sad

I am not trying to start any rummors but is it possible that these kids were poisoned by something or a drug that makes you act crazy or a fake drug that is really a poison.I remember when all the dogs started to die before the doctors found something in the dogfood from china. Do indians allow for otopsies?what do the police think?

This is very sad, we are losing our teens to suicide and for what? As adults we need to understand that the smallest problem to us can be a hugh problem to our young. We should all be willing to listen to our youth and not look down on them for any reason. Kids don't need drugs to be depressed or suicidal, just being left out of a group can be enough to cause these thoughts. Not being asked to the prom or being too shy to ask someone to the prom. Let us not forget that to kids being over weight, underweight, tall, short, ugly or cute, even being shy can be an emotional problem. Anything that can make you feel different in the wrong way can cause problems. Parents, talk to your kids and find oout what bothers them, they are more important than anything else you will ever have.

I agree there are not always the signs we have learned to watch for. In many of the latest suicides these were good kids with loving families good grades and involved in sports and school. For some reason they are losing hope and are not equipped to withstand any hardship. Their answer is to get out and once that is decided that is what they do. If they recieve consequences from parents for poor choices they do not get on with it and get over it they shut down. There seems to be more to these suicides than meets the eyes. If it is a pact we need information to stop it. Otherwise we need to raise our children with more hope and sense as to what it takes to get through this life. We are facing a very scary dilema. There is no rhyme or reason as to why the ones who have chosen this way out have done what they did. They live their lives in a regular fashion up to the point of taking their own lives then its over. Its deeper than having a place for them to hang out or something for them to do. We need to start with our youngest ones and teach them how to cope.

My heart goes out to the families, friends and community members of these lost souls. Please do not point fingers! You must come together as a community to support these teens as they have lost peers to the most horrific of acts. Provide strength for the children, support one another to make it through these hard times and keep faith in your family. I commend the school district for taking action to provide counceling and support for the students, families and staff. Everyone is affected by this tragedy. Please know that others are keeping all of you in their hearts and prayers.

What needs to be taught to these youth is that there is more in the world than small town New Mexico.... NM is the "Land of Enchantment.." but as I was growing up we all called it (including the adults I knew) the "Land of Entrapment." And while Ruidoso is a nice, and beautiful place, no teen wants to live there forever.... They need to know that after high school, they can do and go where ever they want to. There is a whole world of opportunity outside of Ruidoso, or even NM in general...

I knew the girls thatdid commit suicide.Strange thing is that NONE of them were suicidal.
Maybe if parents were involved in their childrens lives more their would not be so much depression.
The stress of going to school doing good and living up to expectations family puts on you is hard.
Another thing to look at NOT IN A RACIAL MANNOR but Indians...All of this is influenced by them...Why? Its in pacts as well...Suicide in groups...Not only one by one but three at a time..This is insain.PARENTS GET INVOLVED...EVEN IF ITS A SMALL TALK OR A DAY OUT OF YOUR BUSY LIVES TO TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN...AGE....IT DOES NOT MATTER 11 OR 20...
ITS SAD THAT THIS HAS TO HAPPEN....
WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TOO...

I am so sorry to hear this happened..i am a mother of a son who once felt like life was just not fair. did not want to be part of this unfair world. His then girlfriend was caught cheating with his uncle(my brother in law) he loved her and took good care of her. I thank god every day that he was able to talk to me. I was a teenage mother and ALWAYS made time to sit and ask my family how their day was and they knew i was there for them no matter how busy our life was. Family first.God bless these families
