Alleged murder victim shot multiple times

What led up to this killing?

I cannot wait for an update on rose's investigation on this story. She seems to be on top of things.

Scott Markant was my 1st cousin. He is survived by a large family on the east coast that he never really got to know. He was estranged from his family for more than 20 years by his own choice, and I'm very saddened to learn that this was his end. He will never have the chance to make amends to his father, and his family never got to say goodbye. My prayers are for his father, my uncle, to find peace that only comes from God above, amidst this senseless act that caused the loss of his adopted son, the child he chose and loved as his own.

Scott was very loved by myself and his three brothers he had in colorado he died in my arms and i know that while he was alive he was very happy loving caring and a gentle man he is loved by all of those who truely knew him to the depths of his soul. Scott lived his life to the fullest each and every day and never looked back. His past was just that his past. I will say that there are two sides to every story and I know Scott was true and honest to the core. I LOVE SCOTT AND MISS HIM EVERY SECOND. Scott is and alaways will be living in our souls. Scott was my 1st cousin, i will never forget when he and his family came to my house when i was a child and sitting across the table having breakfast with him. He has been out of my life for more than 20 years and yet i just heard of his death and it breaks my heart, no matter how far away he was, he was always loved. I thought of him often and only wish i could have had the chance to reconnect with him.....His father chose him and loved him with all his heart and his family in buffalo and abroad are heartbroken over this. May he rest in peace. I love you Scott and you will be missed everyday

i know the man that is being charged with this crime he is a good friend to me when i was growing up what he did isnt right no life has more worth than another but James isnt a bad guy just handed the short end of the stick most of his life i hope that he is given another chance to make right to the family of the victim i am soo sorry please dont have ill feeling for james he gave me something when i had nothing

This is in reply to JMB. Oh yes, we understand how life is not fair and Scotts was tough as well but to say he was not a bad guy is an understatement when you intentionally kill someone.

Are you frickin fracken kidding me?!?!?!?!?! Scott was a wonderful beautiful person. We loved him dearly and while he was a little rough around the edges, he was a caring a gentle soul. My kids loved him like family and call him "Uncle Scott." And NO he NEVER touched them or ever did anything inappropriate with them!

NO!!! Scott was most decidedly NOT a child pedophile!!! He was, for a time, my little brother. We were adopted into the same family... me as a toddler and him several years later as a newborn. I've been looking for him for about fifteen years... just wanted to know he was alright. I still have one of his first teddy bears and the first Christmas present he ever bought me with his own money (he was twelve). Some of us lost what we had. Others lost what might have been. May the God of All Comfort be with us all.

Scott was one of my very best friends. It breaks my heart and saddens me to know such a good man died at the hands of a jealous child. Scott and I have been thru hell and high water together and he always remained a soldier and a man to the fullest. I miss him deeply and the love I have for our friendship and for the man that he was holds no bounds. Scott and I both have pasts that haunt us to the fullest, but it never changed the way we lived our lives, so Scott I miss you brother and I remain here haunted by myself. This is in response to certain people who do not know why I failed to post an update after lukes magistrate court hearing. I am sorry people who trusted me, were let down, but there were valid reasons for keeping quiet. I went to the hearing and did my best to try and take notes of everything that was said because tape recorders are not allowed in the court room. My intentions were to tell people what actually happened and take the teeth out of the local gossip mongers tall tails that were getting wilder and taller every day. There are people here who tend to make things up to fill in the gaps of any local happening that is of community interest, and this was a big story with as little information as possible given to the press for several different and valid reasons. When everything was said and done I had to decide what would be worse for the families to deal with. Hearing the tall tales that were being made up by a few people and then spreading all over town like wildfire or having the real facts put out there. There were no good options because no matter what was said or where, it was, and still is, a grim situation. After talking it over with a friend I decided to keep quiet and hoped things would settle down before the stories got much worse. That was because the victim was from out of state and his family was less likely to hear the wrong and hurtful rumors than they would have, had they been from this area. Then there was the fact that most anybody from zozo that has been around for very long, knows how bad and wrong the rumors get when something major happens so truthfulness of anything and everything heard on the streets has to be questioned. And last but not least, Luke grew up here so a lot of people knew about his personality, temperment and drug problems. Somebody described him as being a "loose cannon that had been waiting to go off for a long time" and I have to agree with that description. Those were my reasons for keeping quiet and not posting what I knew in here, but was I wrong?? The ugly and wrong rumors locally floating around by word of mouth is one thing, but some of that ugliness is now being brought up in here for the whole world to see and read and that is a different story. So now what? His friends and family have started posting in here so I will check this site more often and leave the decision of what, if anything, to post about this issue in the future, up to them. I WILL say that luke and skeeter called each other brothers but they were talking about the brotherly type friendship they had and were not actual blood related brothers. Skeeter was not the victim. He dropped out of local sight because he got put in jail due to some arrest warrants from his past that finally caught up with him. And there was nothing about Scott's/Shawn's being any type of sexual predator that came up in court. The only mention of sex was when his girlfriend was asked if she ever had a sexual/romantic type relationship with luke, and she said "no". According to what was said in court, Scotts major role of activity on the day he died, was attempting to calm luke down just like other people there had tried to do, while at the same time attempting to keep the frightened girlfriend as calm as possible by reassuring her that everything would be OK and sending her into house for supper. Shortly after getting home and assessing the situation, he also made it a point to go check on the other adults and children on the property to make sure they were OK. There are a lot of decent, caring and innocent people involved with this tragedy so when posting in here, PLEASE try to remember the innocent ones and be careful with how you word what you want to say and the questions you ask.
