You know, there are always those who just won't, but I was actually pleased with the amount of cooperation of folks sharing glasses and other viewing methods (filters, pinhole viewers, binocs on paper, etc.). All the people who brought their telescopes were so kind - and it seemed to me most of the crowd was grateful and courteous in the lines. Super event all around! I'll plan on bringing my family to more of them.:)

Great! Our next event is another solar event, the Transit of Venus on Tuesday June 5th beginning at 4pm at Oliver Lee Memorial State Park group shelter. The next Transits of Venus won't occur until Dec. 2117 and Dec. 2125. So it will truly be one of those "once in a lifetime" experiences.

I want to thank everyone that came up to the musuem tonight for the annular eclipse. It was a huge success!
Don't forget, Transit of Venus on June 5, 2012!
It was just aweful ... as barb was absolutely ''beside herself'' with the large crowd as she had that bullhorn barking away at people as to what the hell we were looking at as if she was the 'know it all'.

For those of you who weren't there you should had seen her as she was wearing those ridiculous 1960's sun glasses as we couldn't stop stop laughing at her during the event.

Just aweful!!

Again CAROL you show just how stupid you are posting crap that never happened, no bullhorn in sight. I can assure you the 400-500 people that showed up enjoyed the show.

Well thank you! I was manning that little PST (personal solar telescope) on the wooden tripod all the way on the right hand side of the parking lot. The others were Sean (my husband), Joe, Jim, and Mike.

Transit of Venus Solar Viewing Event

Tuesday June 5, 2012
Time: 4:00pm - 8:00pm
Location: Oliver Lee Memorial State Park group shelter

A transit is when one of the inner planets, Venus or Mercury, passes directly between the Sun and the Earth, becoming visible against the background of the Sun. We will be able to watch the first half of the transit, from about 4:20 pm until sunset. Venus transits occur in pairs spaced about 112 years apart. This pair occur in 2004 and 2012; the last set occurred in the late 1880's and the next pair does not occur again well into the 22nd century. So, it is one of those "once in a lifetime" events.
Visit the AAG Venus Transit page to learn more.

A $5 per vehicle park entry fee will be charged.

We too at the NSO will be viewing the transit from Sunspot. We still have solar glasses for sale and we will have telescopes set up at our scenic overlook. The public is invited to attend. Also, we will have live images posted online at http://venustransit.nso.edu/

So what's the deal with the $5 charge for entry to Oliver Lee? Charged by whom?

Is this the park's fee, or your club's?

It was the day use fee for the park. It was $5 well spent.

Why does it concern you when you didn't even attend?

Was curious.
I thought that there was a $10 park fee, but that this fee was for campers-RVs. Wasn't aware of any other fees out there?

Talk about looking like a doof as when you attend one of these events you'll see barb constantly patting her gun holster like the way barney fife always used to do on the Andy Griffen Show.

Yeap barbs a modern day barney fife !!!

I didn't see where she mentioned that?

But if she does wear-holster a firearm when she's out there, as far as I know it is legal to do so in a state park.

Thank God this state has some good gun laws.
