None of the old positions were open this season, only new positions. so we will have new board members but I haven't heard yet who they are. Don't know why they aren't telling us.

It is no secret...those who are going to be on the board already know who they are and those that did not get elected were informed as well.

If hundreds of children and parents are interested to find out who makes the rules and the character of the people in charge, then why has this not been made public? I would think that these positions should have been available for consideration through newspapers, school announcements, mass letter mailings to "paid" participants, email, facebook...and on and on! Instead, we find out that these secret elections have already taken place and the select ones that were privileged to receive the pre-election and post election results have been notified and those "that did not get elected were informed as well."

It has already started the secrets and the sneaky board. Looks to me like gold is no better than black or red. Anyone want to start up another organization? How about bulldog white?

Any organization with a 501C status has to make public: minutes from meetings, financial statements, post a 30 day notification of board postions and all meetings should be open to the public. All records should be public record.
All organizations should have a set of bylaws also posted and available to the public. All organzations should run background checks on any adult in a coaching capacity who will be on the field of play during any game or practice. If you do the research there are guidelines in regards to arrest records. The main thing you look for is Sex offenders! Sex Offenders absolutley band for life. The other items are judged by a indepent company and guidelines are handed out. For example: drug charges 10 years or older to be allowed to coach, under 10 years no. DWI can not be a pending offense, Theft or Hot Checks - not really any guidelines more of an origanzational call. I am sure both organzation has guidelines they use after running background checks. Background checks are kept private and the League Commission should be notified in writing on yes or no on each indiviual who is associated with an organization.

Does anyone know how to get ahold of the new commissioner for RCYA? An email address would be fine.

The information wasn't posted immediately to the RCYSD website because of obligations related to work (a paying job). The election was two fold, 1. The parents vote from the End of Year Celebration had to be counted. 2. Interviews had to held for both coaches as well as board positions. We are not allowed to "advertise through school announcements", the elections were not secret, they were held after the interviews were conducted at the same location all of our PUBLIC board meetings have been held. The RCYSD is not here to try and guard any information, there is no reason for that. We have made board meetings public and announced them in advance, we have had at most a dozen non-board members or coaches attend a meeting yet. We typically rely on email to distribute information, it appears we need to do a better job of that, the website has been updated with the latest information, the January meeting will take place late in the month. We have bylaws, financial records, and meeting minutes available upon request. We are trying to do this the right way, we may stumble a little here and there but hey, this is our first year and getting everything together was a lot of work in itself. We will get the rest of it taken care of as we move forward, and I would expect each year some improvement will be made. Hopefully frustrations felt and expressed by people like yourself will help us get that much better.

I have lived in this town for 10 years and my children have tried to be active in something either here, Rockwall, Terrell, Forney and believe or not...Quinlan. Of course my main choice would be Royse City, because we live here...duh. But in all of those years with the struggles this town has with youth sports, I have never ever seen or heard of postings for elections, flyers around town, signs in appropriate areas and even newspapers. I know it is all a political power struggle anymore and I really hate that for the kids. This town has more potential to build nice facilities, run quality programs and build on the future for all of the abundant talent in this area. However, we are locked down and stuck with our wheels spinning with the mindset and the general attitude that is involved at this time. I am not knocking the people in charge right now because I know they have their hands full with 500 or 600 or more kids and parents screaming for attention. Someday the right person will come along and he/she will make a difference and all of this will be just an afterthought. Until that time, we will have to do what we have been doing for, at least my case, the last 10 years. And that is play at the same run down fields, lean on our schools for additional playing and practicing space and struggggglllllllinnnnngggg through another season. My hat truly is off to the high ranking officials of our youth sports for all of their hard work, but I think they will do their annual duty and then rest on their laurels for another year. Enough of this jibberish.....PLAY BALL!!!!!!!!!!

New to this town and new to this forum, but interesting to find out that one of the longest and most controversial topics is the leadership in this towns youth organizations. Why? And looking back on this, it looks like it has been going on for a very long time. Why? What is the city doing for the youth organizations? Where are the playing fields? Surely Walker Hawk is not the only place with as many children and parents in this town. I am very confused...and when and where do I sign up to run for commissioner? From the posts on here, those elections are very confusing as well. They are not held at the same time every year, just when it is convenient for those already in office. There is no advertising of elections and if my math is correct we are talking around 2000 people involved in these leagues. 600 kids+ at least 1000 parents+ at least another 400 friends and family members that enjoy watching their little ones play some sort of youth sport. Why are there so many questions? Just sayin...

City has ZERO to do with youth organizations. All organization are non profit organization with all separate boards. Football, Baseball, Soccer and Basketball. The organizations rent fields from the City and the money does not go back into the park budget but the main city funds instead except Basketball and the rent school gyms. Walker Hawk is the only sports complex for Baseball and Football and all football teams share those fields for practice. Football games are played at the middle school and all 3 football organizations have to share the available time permitted by the school board and rent other football fields for home games in other communities. Kind of crazy but that's how it works.

Personally I like both groups of people who run the football leagues. To me it's not about the people but what I feel is best for my child. You will never like everything that happens within a sports organization but ghats life and you just make the most of it. Next year sign up again or move on is my motto. We have played for all sport leagues in town and have not had a bad experience to prevent us from signing up again.

Maybe those complaining should try Select sports programs. No board to deal with- each team makes their own decisions and a parent can take their grievances to the coach.

I hate to say this, but my kid aint good enuff to play that select sport stuff. He still likes to play baseball, but I guess if they have a select team for kids that aint really good, but likes to play ball, then I'm all for it. Where do I sign him up?

There are various levels in Select- he may surprise you. I never had a problem with RCYBA board, however that was years ago. We did not stop playing RCYBA because we were angry- we just wanted a higher level.
