There has been talk of the city hall holding classes for children of the community (dance, karate), does anyone know if this will actually happen?

Kind of like "Dancing with the Stars"? That is going to be funny watching the mayor and city council trying to tap dance thier way out of thier troubles. LOL
Just joking, anything for kids is great.

I hope that water park is a success. I have to say, the location is not so great. I worry about it being right there on 66

I agree Mary. I hope they have a 20 MPH speed zone through that area. I don't like the location either, but I heard it was there because there was no other use for the property or at least they could not come up with anything else. I fear for the trains coming thru also and the baseball traffic during the summer time as well. I hate to admit it, but I don't understand what this water park is supposed to do. I heard it cost about $600,000.00 and all I see there is a pool of water and what looks like a playground area and then a parking lot. Will this be around to serve it's purpose 5 years from now? I am sure there has been some planning done around this. I would think a community swimming pool would have been a much nicer addition. The only problem being upkeep. However, it would have created jobs and I believe it would have fit nicely into that area. Maybe there is more coming for the water park and they are just not finished. Hope the kids enjoy and safety is enforced.

Check the records, you worry for naught. There has never been a child struck by a car on Hwy 66 in Royse City City Limits in history. Neither has a child been struck by a train in Royse City.

There once was an old barber that got hit by a train while driving in downtown RC but that was decades ago, he lived to tell about it too! Community pool...too much liability for the city to insure me thinks.

We ain't never had a playground next to the highway neither. On being hit by a train, don't know of any kids, but I have heard of two RC people that got killed by train crash.

Actually there were 5 in a car and two young men who hitched a ride on the train killed ate the Josephine St. crossing. It was either a Sunday or Wednesday night cause I was settin in the Baptist Church and heard the crash. We all ran down to watch. I had never seen so much activity in town before. Also a couple of high school kids got killed I believe at that same crossing later. One of them was a daughter to the banker back then.

When I was growing up the railroad and the ditch running under it by the park were where we played.

Heard an old time city barber also was killed by trying to beat a train across the tracks. So yes, I think the city officials did not think this through (again). Maybe a high fence should be considered on both sides of the playground. Just one incident would be one too many.

I have not heard of anything like this. However, I find it hard to find out what kind of plans are in the works by this council. I have read on this board that there is supposed to be money spent each year on parks, but shouldn't we be planting a grocery store on that property first instead of flowers. I agree a community swimming pool with an adjacent recreation center would be a great idea. The Rec Center could be useful year round and the pool could provide fun for the kids from May thru August. I'm sure there is more red tape to this than what we think. Qualified people to run the center, health risks, safety issues, etc. But I think everyone understands that sometime you have to take a few risks to make a move forward.

grocery store in my mind is overrated. the city can't build a store - a government run store? that would be a disaster. a store will come eventually.

parks have to be planned now before land is gone and we are just mess of cement, houses, and strip malls. i have said i am not a fan on the location of the new park, but it was a good idea. a city pool would also be good. i have no idea about the red tape or insurance, but most cities still do it. not only rockwall, but instance bridgeport texas which has less residents than RC has a city pool. great way to make our town more family friendly and keep kids out of trouble during the hot summer months.

we are also in need of a real playground. while our schools have playgrounds, they are basically of limits during the day. the main city park has some playground equipment, but it is very minimal. we ought to build a major playground for our children - actually we probably ought to build a couple of them in different neighborhoods as our town spreads out.

there is grant money to help with the cost of playground equipment and the big fort type sets can be built with volunteer labor.

personally, i would love to see our town really invest in the greenscape and signage that makes RC a beautiful place to live.

Grocery stores are overrated? I sure hope you are kidding. And whoever said anything about a government (city hall) run grocery store? I am all for greenscape, as long as that greenscape includes the green leafy vegatables that my family can nourish thier bodies with.
Rule of order:
1. Eat
2. Work
3. Sleep
After these three steps are complete, revert to number 1.
You eat (groceries) to keep your body up to work to earn a living to buy (groceries) and to enjoy (greenscape). After your nourishment and work, you rest (sleep) in order to begin your next days nourishment (groceries).
We are not asking the city hall to begin thier own grocery store. Why would we? We are just asking City Hall to get on the stick and intice somebody...anybody...to provide a convenient, necessary, cost effecient, reliable source of nutrition for the citizens of Royse City. If they do not have the resources, means or know how to make this happen, then they should recognize that fact and return themselves to the public sector and out of the political arena. If all they know is greenscape and playground equipment, then complete their greenscape ideas and jump on this Merry-Go-Round with the rest of us.

i was not saying that the world doesnt need grocery stores. yes we have to eat. we have to be able to buy groceries. my thought was we have gone decades without a grocery store and we ate just fine. it is only with the tremendous influx of people moving into RC that we think we now deserve a store. if we were still at 3000 residents, would we be making the same complaint over and over. who knows, maybe some have been complaining about it since the 1960s?

so, basically we who do not know the formulas that walmart and kroger use to determine when and where to locate are giving grief to our non-professional civic leaders for not securing a store. the mayor and city council are elected volunteers. they go to training, but still, they are normal people with regular fulltime jobs. if you think you can do better, then run against them. i hope if you do run, that you have experience in working as grocery store planner.

there will come a day soon enough where we will have not only a grocery store, but we will have a home depot, lowes, walgreens, dominoes, and with them exits our mom&pops pharmacy, hardware store and pizza places. in there place will come a bunch of traffic and more crime than any decision for beer sales could bring. i am not against growth. i grew up in a fast growing suburb and enjoyed, yet i also realize that most people that have moved to RC did so to get away from the over populated places like mesquite and garland, looking for a cheaper, nicer, safer and quieter place to raise children. lets take our time and build our town wisely, instead of hastily.

sorry if i seem confrontational. just voice my opinion about the town i have grown to love.

Yes, that is true we have gone decades without, but times do change and it seems nobody wants to change that particular huge problem Royse City has always had. I'm with Hillbilly. Get on the stick and get to work on getting us some kind of grocery store.
