I am not buying what was in the paper.

Who ran our chief off?

Did the city manager interfer with his shop?

Did our worthless city hall staff fail to provide the funds for our police department to succeed?

Did their reckelss behavior and fiscal irresponsibility cause him to leave?

Is it the lack of oversight of finances? Poor planning by city staff? Incompetent city staff?

Did a city council member run him off?

What about more internal money problems that most of us already suspect?

We lost an outstanding model chief! Hard to replace him.

I sense there is more details that made him resign. It seems to me our Chief left as a result of our city leadership.

Let me guess our local city leadership will appoint either friends, family, neighbors, former co-workers; people that have absolutely no qualifications to run a police agency.

Do you really think a classy chief like ours will reveal the real experiences faced with such incompetent people?

Best of luck Chief! We appreciate all you did for us and all the experience you brought us from Dallas PD. Too bad RC politics stand in the way and didnt provide you the resources needed to manage your department. It has always been this way - same old mentality unable to step out of the box with creativitive solutions and mental depth.

I truly hope the entire city council, mayor and city manager are embarrassed. You all are doing us a disservice by continung to serve. Many of us are willing to step up and replace you!

In complete agreeance with your post Bobby. Chief Shelton came aboard after having a less than acceptable Chief, straightend up the PD, ran it like a true leader, enforced high standards for his personnel and history proves that crime has decreased with him on board. I too believe there is more than is being said in regards to his retirement. His obvious devotion shows a man who had to have had other reasons for leaving. If rumors are correct, the city manager wants to take over as he did in his last tenure, denies requests for funds to the pd or any other requests/ideas they have presented to him. Whomever attempts to replace him will have some big shoes to fill, along with all the politics in our manager and council members. God Speed Tom Shelton, with your head held high, leave in knowing you did the best you could given the circumstances in which were out of your control.

Yes, we lost a good man! A true professional and the best person for the job! What a sad time for Royse City! This city manager and staff better adhere to unbiased, ethical and open recruiting when filling this position. They better do a national or statewide search. They better open this job to others to compete. They better not fill this position with more of the same. They better find the most qualified candidate or I will make their lives miserable. I will challenge every move they make! I will contact every newspaper company and media person I know.

They need to form a citizen committee to be part of the interviewing process. Sadly, we expect much of the same our city will conduct a fake job search to make it look good and then backdoor their a weak-link (friends) that will not be respected by the current police force and in time they will destroy the morale and the department will spiral out of control. This is what makes Royse City what it is today, we go backwards not forward!

Thanks for serving us Chief Tom Sheldon! You did a remarkable job here in RC the past 5 years!!! You had the same reputation while serving DPD and we expected no less!!

Our very own elected officials and city management will continue to break down good people; shucks, in time they will dismantle a perfectly running department. What else do you expect??? They run off one of the finest!I'm not surprised. I wish our great Chief could ignore all their BS! However; who would blame him. All of us are frustrated with the leadership of this town, luckily we dont have to deal with their utter ignorance on a daily basis and neither will Chief Sheldon.

Hats off to our city manager! Sure hope the new assistant city mgr positions have paid off, since you did not allocate enough funds to our police department. Once again, you do not understand how to spend our tax money!!! I hope you read all these postings!

I dont believe for a minute what was published!!!
Sorry to hear the sad news!!! Chief Sheldon is a good guy! He always respected us seniors!! This town will continue to sink deeper and deeper with the current people in place. I will miss seeing him stopping by the shell station.

I am very discouraged with the lack of progress in this town. I am even more disturbed when a great police department is affected.

Yep, sorry to see him go. The few times I got to see and speak with him (not in an official capacity, thank goodness), he seemed to have a lot on the ball. Any time a dedicated law man hangs up his holster is sad, but I am glad he was able to retire safe and sound and I hope he has many enjoyable and healthy years left ahead of him.

Chief Shelton is the consummate professional and did our city a great service. It is both sad and disgusting to see one of the few honest people in RC management leave. What scares me more is the possibility that our arogant City Manager may step in and drive a stake into the heart of the last honest institution in Royse City, namely the Police Department.
How much abuse can our city take? We need to ride our worthless city council, City Attorney, EDC and City Manager out of town on a rail.
We have weathered gross negligence, intimidation, financial ruin, abuse and neglect of our services and departments, and abuse of authority, and that's only what we currently know about!
Let's tell these do-nothings to take a hike.

Tom,
I knew this day was coming, but never wanted to see it come to fruition. I read your statement in the paper and was touched by your words. Now, I sit here and see a topix started about you to express concerns and heartfelt goodbyes. So I decide to post my own feelings..........only no words come to mind. How does one begin to communicate to another what their heart feels, how much you've touched their life, their appreciation for your dedication to a job well done, the saddness to see you go but the joy of seeing you soar? There are simply.......... no words. Maybe just 3 LOVE YA BUDDY

Chief Shelton. A very good man. The previous RCPD Chief. Not such a good man at all. He was actually the worst police chief ever. Then the city voted him on the city council. He ran only for revenge, wasted taxpayer money, instigated the removal of the best city mgr this city ever had (Connie Goodwin), then quit his term as a councilman. I hope he never comes back to our city ever again. Chief Shelton. A very good man.

I have heard that several officers are leaving also
the city is in shambles due to the new city manager
and city council. Its only a matter of time till
the Sheriff's Deputies will be patrolling the streets of Royse City. I have to say the Chief and staff have done one Hell of a Great Job!! over the past several years and it only a matter of time till the crime returns to the city we all need to thank
the new city council and city manager for running off the best officers in the state!!!!!

Does anyone think Stapleton will be made chief?

He's been here awhile and certainly knows the town.

Stapleton? He'd be an awsome chief, but as you say, "hes been here awhile and certainly knows the town". From what I gather, I think our perfectly good chief may say he's retiring, I think he's sick and tired of everything going on here, tired of no funds to help out, tire of no support. So back to our question, "do you think stapelton would be made chief"? He would be the only one I can think of worthy enough and wise enough to replace shelton, but having worked here and known everything, you really think he would even accept if offered? there going to have to find a clueless, out of touch person to take over. and that my friends is going to be a problem. Get yer ammo ready. This towns going down without shelton and all the guys on our force!!!

Joe,

I think Jeff has been working toward a Chiefs position his entire career. With Linda officing in town now, I don't see Jeff leaving.

Jeff's a smart cookie, I think he could run the department as well as an outsider for sure.

If Jeff was smart...and he is, plus a great guy, he would touch the Chief's position. It is a sure route to failure with the CC! Jeff, thanks for what you have done...you too Tom!

anybody read the rockwall enterprise? exactly wht many thought. Its the city driving him out, no funds, no help, no support. He tried and did improve a lot of issues, but now is stuck in the mud due to the city not supporting our police deparetment, which is the most important issue of our city! get with it city hall

Leave it to our incompetent city staff to create more turmoil and jeapordize city services. The longer we leave these people in office the more damage they cause. I see this group surpassing the last bunch of backward bubbas.

The truth to the matter is instead of allocating funds to our police department they decided to hire assistants for city management. I don't blame the Chief for resigning. This city is a complete JOKE!

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Aquarius

Be careful now, because you could easily give someone the wrong impression and not even know that you're doing it. This is most likely to happen if you're trying to pussy-foot around them or avoid offending them, because that's when things could get lost in translation. You also have a tendency to sit on the fence now, which could make you seem slightly untrustworthy or shifty if you aren't careful.
