Any driver unable to stop for a turning vehicle in front of him is driving too close and too fast. Excessive speed is what caused this massive slaughter. No blame can be given to a driver of any vehicle attempting to turn legally. The truck driver is wrong and must be severely punished.

I've been on the stetch of US 24 where this horrific tragedy occurred many times. While I have major concerns about a moped being out on that stretch of road, after reading about this horrific tragedy on several Indiana newspaper websites, I agree that it looks more and more like excessive speed is to blame.

It's time to put an end to truck drivers' dangerous driving. Many are responsible, but far too many of them tend to speed excessively, tailgate, and frankly, just show no regard for other drivers on the road. Penalties need to be stiffened and enforcement ramped up against those truck drivers who drive dangerously and put lives at risk. The police need to focus their stretched traffic enforcement resources on dangerous truck drivers. One consolation of high diesel prices is that more goods are being shipped by rail and fewer trucks are on the roads.

My heart breaks for the families of the innocent children who died. I also hope that the driver who murdered these four students is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and faces his just desserts for his reckless, irresponsible actions. He's clearly a danger to us all and should never see the light of day again lest someone else be killed.

I also forgot to mention that from what I've read in the Indiana papers, the Indiana State Police deserve credit for continuing to carry out what sounds like a very detailed and thorough investigation of this tragedy. They were back out today to look for and collect any additional evidence that could be relevant to the accident. I'm glad to see that they're leaving no stone unturned in pursuing justice.

We should also keep the police, fire, and EMS personnel who responded what had to be an incomprehensible scene in our thoughts and prayers. They may be professionals, but I can't imagine the emotions they're dealing with after dealing with the aftermath of such a heartbreaking tragedy.

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Leo

Perhaps it's the fact that it's Christmas Eve and everyone is busy, but you can't help feeling that you're walking on eggshells around certain people. Their emotions are very close to the surface and could erupt at a moment's notice, perhaps in a storm of tears or a fit of pique. Calm them down and ask if you can do anything to help.
