i voted for this mayor because i thought he was a businessman who knew how to bring in businesses.
We don't need more tattoo parlors or cigarette places.
How about a MAJOR store.
The hot new store is HHGREGG.
Nearest one is in Gurnee.
How about one here in Fox Lake ???
Think you could swing that mayor ?
Round Lake is getting all the revamped stores like Walmart.
How come you can't seem to bring any of them in ?
We need jobs in this town.
We need real growth.
All i see is more ways to tax us or pentalize us.
We don't need red light cameras, video poker, or a zillion property fines.
Maybe at the next election for mayor we should look for one interested in actually bringing in real businesses.

i'm surprised no one has commented on this thread.
I guess everyone is happy with not having any really good stores to shop in.

here's another business that should be encouraged to open up a store in our town.

How about some of you posting businesses you think should be encouraged to start up in our town.
Maybe if we get enough of a response our mayor and village board will get off their rumps and contact these businesses and encourage them.

a few more while i'm at it

In the last three years look how many places in downtown have changed hands.
Any of those spots would for be ok take out.
Second Federal spot is still available
Goodman Electric spot i think is still available.
How about Target where Big Hollow used to be at rt12 & rt132 ?
There's a lot available next to Vals available.
I'm sure a real estate agent somewhere knows more of what is available.
I'm no expert but at least i have ideas worth considering by our useless mayor and town council.
The other choice is to do nothing and just let the town continue to slowly die.
What ideas do you have ?
The more ideas people put out there the more reason for the mayor to wake up that people want real change not just red light cameras and video poker.
The mayor went gag-gag over having Walsh come into Fox Lake.
What has that doen for us ?
How many jobs did we get out of that ?
How much visitors now come here to spend money because Walsh is here ?
We need businesses that promote jobs and bring in people to shop.

What a joke.
The article makes it sound like him and all his people are going to be in Fox Lake 24/7
And that thanks to him zillions more will visit Fox Lake just because he is here.
Try finding him on any given day.
Try finding his so called huge staff.
Try finding all the people visiting Fox Lake just because he has an office here.
Don't get me wrong power to anyone who wants to have an office here.
Just don't lie to me that this somehow brings in tons of jobs and businesses.

while shopping around the internet i ran across this interesting looking boot company.
The neaest location is over 150 miles away.
This would be a cool business to have in our area.
It could bring in some shoppers from nearby towns.
How about mayor ?
Anyone else have any stores they think should move here ?
Lets posts some ideas. I'm sure some will be good and some will be not so good.
But if we don't give the mayor some ideas he'll just go on being another do nothing for the town mayor.
And if i'm the only one posting suggestions for new businesses he can go right on ignoring his promise to bring in new businesses.

Maybe an antique shop or two?
How about an candle shop - with those real nice soy candles. There used to be an Amish furniture store in Antioch (could be it's still there; not sure, it was about to shut down the last time I was there) that had a large supply of those nice candles & other aromatherapy products. My sister & mom & I used to go there periodically & spend all kinds of money. They had a deal going on where you would get a great discount after spending so much money, and they had sales going on all the time. The had those Yankee candles at a good price too - I'm not a fan of Yankee but I know some folks are. I think we need specialty type shops like these if we want to attract people from out of town.

Good ideas from both MzKriz & Hungry.
I remeber Antioch used to have a discount store too. It was great for cheap clothing items that you knew you only needed for a one or two time occasion. Would be great to have that as well as a candle shop. Plus candle shops have much better incense then those crappy plug in kind from glade.
I love White Castle and they have gotten way better over the last few years too.
Here's a location for ya.
How about the corner of rt59 & Grand near the High School.
Everything else there goes busts.
They have parking.
A small building like White Castle could fit in there. So could Popeyes or Cousin's sub.

I guess it didn't post twice afterall, lol. This board is goofy.
Anyway - I've always wondered why the restaurant-type businesses at the corner of Grand & 59 don't last, being right next to the high school. Wasn't the last one a little ice cream place?
I wonder if a coffee shop would do better; there'd probably have to be some food available - sandwiches & whatnot.

i think the main reason they fail there is because Grant is a closed campus.
If kids could go there for lunch it would thrive.
There was a sandwhich place there last time i went there.
It was good when it first opened then went downhill and over priced after that.
Problem with coffee shops is they all want to be Starbucks and change around $10 for lousy coffee.
Make a good standard size $1 coffee and they would be a hit.

Fox Lake has never been able to compete with surrounding towns as far as stores, I remember way back in the 60's they were behind the times as far as places to shop and buy groceries, its amazing how that town has never changed. Its nothing but overkill of fast food restraunts and cigarette stores, and dollar stores. Why not put up a Big Lots or a Walmart or even a Target ??

I came here in 1970 but i recall we were about the same size in number of stores back then as most towns around here.
But most of them ( especially round lake ) really grew since then.
I can think of a lot of fast food places we don't have that other towns nearby have.
KFC
POPEYES
White Castle
Steak & Shake
Arby's
Cousin's subs
Papa John's
A & W
Einstein Bros. Bagels

I could also list chain restaurants too that others have and we don't
Denny's
Lone Star Steak House
Joe's crab shack
TGIF
IHOP
Outback Steak House
Bob Evans Restaurants
Roy Rodgers Restaurants
Bakers Square
Fuddruckers
Perkins Restaurant and Bakery
Boston Market
Red Lobster

I could go and on but you get the idea.
We do have plenty of land up and down rt12.
we have land next to Val's
we always have a store going out of business in the downtown section and in the plaza
If we made Ingleside the last stop we would have a lot of FREE parking available as well as land for more stores.

But what we need most is a mayor and town countcil that is willing to go after real expansion of the town. Instead of pushing for video poker and red light cameras neither of which generate jobs or growth in the town.

How about this for a new business ?
An Embroidery Shop.
Antioch has a couple so does Grayslake.
Grant H.S. buys all its stuff from the one in Antioch and then gives it a huge mark up.
Back in the 90's i brought my kid's HS jacket through the one in Antioch i paid LESS for it with all its patches and her name on it then i would have through the booster club with NOTHING added to it.
Just imagine if we had such a store here in town.
They could do school gear, local businesses, various organizations, churches, and just personaized items local people.
The machines that do this stuff are now computerized. Great job for a Grant HS student trying to make it in the computer world.
As well as a seasoned worker in the clothing industry.
Undercut the prices being charged in other towns and business would boom.
Or even a price break for local businesses, or for any item saying Fox Lake on it.
Stores like this don't need a lot of space.
So any empty business ( and there are a few ) in the downtown area would be idea.
Anyone else have any POSITIVE ideas for a business ?
I think we got restaurants already covered but if got one you really want to see in Fox Lake then post it.

Here's another main chain store no where around here.
Why not put one in somewhere along rt12 ?
How about it mayor ? village board ?
you guys got elected because you were business people who knew how to bring in business.
Where are the BIG businesses that can hire unskilled Fox Lake workers ?
The few businesses that have come into fox lake in the last 4 years are small and don't really hire locals from this town unless they have lots of prior experience.
Most of the locals here are semi/unskilled, high school with maybe some college education.

Would be nice to see some other suggestions on here too.
Lets keep it positive and show the mayor we want jobs brought in here.

Here's another department store chain that is overlooked.
The nearest one is in Northlake.
Come on mayor why not get some of these big stores in fox lake along rt12 ???
They would offer real jobs to town folks.
They would bring in shoppers in the area who might shop at other town stores.
Heck these shoppers might even get a tattoo.
Show some business leadership and bring in some LARGE stores or companies that can employ more then a handful of people.

Besides all the businesses i've listed above there are also all the businesses other towns have added in recent years.
Antioch and Round Lake have added new and better Wal-Marts, Ace Hardwares, CVS, Home Depot, Office Max to name a few.
These remodeled stores have created additional jobs and brought in shoppers who also shop in the other stores in those towns.
When is this kind of growth going to happen in Fox Lake ?
When is our mayor with all that business experience going to bring in new and improved businesses ?
I've seen several posters in other threads that say they want to post on issues and not tit-for-tat.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Pisces

Having to bow down to convention or limitations is enough to make you want to scream right now, and you'll do your utmost to rebel in any way you can. Be careful about this because you could easily get on the wrong side of someone who has power or authority over you. It feels as though you're battling with forces that want to keep you under control, and you don't like it one bit.
