I've never heard of riding shotgun in an airplane that carries nothing valuable but the pilot and co-pilot/navigator. But I, being from the Avenger-Field area, a baby-boomer, and loved every one of the WASP'S am glad these women continue to do this!! Thanks for your comment.

I beg to differ with the previous "expert" poster, Robert T.- Mrs. Pecotte was one-half of the racing team. Whether she sat right seat, left seat, or on the empennage (tail, for you racing "experts"), she was as vital to the completion of the race and it's outcome as the pilot was (me). Her duties included calling out minimum altitudes on
the maps, pointing out traffic and radio towers, making the radio calls,
helping to monitor the engine CHT's/EGT's, managing the GPS weather
in-flight analysis, handling the race flight plans and weather briefings,
and being the other set of eyes when we're skimming along low altitudes at over 200 mph.
Robert the race "expert", I suggest you post your comments on a story you might be a little more familiar with, whatever that might be.
