Looking for a nice rural community to retire too. My dad lived in Sweetwater, so it is a familir place. Was wondering if there is any advice about moving to Sweetwater. I saw a few houses on Yucca Lane that looked very comfortable. Any advice?

I'm not the best qualified person to be telling you much or swaying you one way or another. I was born/raised there, but have been gone for 45 years. My personal experiences were good as a kid, with many fond memories. The taxes are a whole lot cheaper than where you are. The housing is considerably less expensive than where you are. There are a lot of good people there and a few old sore heads. Do a search on line for Sweetwater Tx.com There are several good lakes to fish in, Lake Sweetwater being 7 miles south east of town. There have been many Wind Turbine Gnerators built between Abilene and Sweetwater, and west of town. There are several points of interest(Pioneer Museum, Avenger Field-Wasp Museum, many different denominations of Churches,A good High-School Football team,Population stays around 8-12,000, a good Hospital, WalMart, and KMart, Tractor Supply).Several good restaurants, an American Legion, VFW Post. Furnature Stores, other businesses, Slap(Seniors luncheon activities program), 42 miles to Abilene, 75 miles from Big Spring, 72 miles fo San Angelo, a Texas State Technical College, several Retirement Centers, Nursing-Rehab Centers, on I-20. An Annual Worlds Largest Rattlesnake Round-up, Santa Fe Railroad(not sure about Amtrac services). Good Airport in Abilene. So, you be the judge! But on the other hand, I personally would not move back. Do the Sweetwater Tx.com search.

I forgot to add that there are two Golf Courses, one at Lake Sweetwater(Municipal), and one in town at The Country Club(by Santa Fe Lake, membership required).

Now, Ron that is only your opinion. I feel that
Sweetwater is a wonderful place to retire or live.
Very friendly people--just the right size--and
all the nice things that you mentioned. But, I was
also born/raised in Sweetwater, and can't wait to
move back there.

Sounds great! I did Dallas(Irving) for four lean picking years. Couldn't handle it anymore so I moved to a small town close to Waco. Worked at several jobs, finally found a good one(for 25 years), retired 9 years ago living in a small bed-room community, enjoying my life. Hope you make your retirement and your move back 'home'. But things have 'sure' changed!

I have some time to think about it. I was there just last July and it was so hard to leave. I really like the little town of Sweetwater. Thank you all for the input :)

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Taurus

It's important that you keep that famous bull-headedness in check over the next couple of weeks. Be cool, calm and sensible and you'll find that you end up with things correctly and tidily done. Stick to the straight and narrow, no matter what the distractions or irritations around you. If you think outside the square, you'll begin to see how visualisation can change and shape your life. Trust your hunches and be ready to move on them.
