"Jesse from Roswell," did you formulate your kindly insights about the Institute and its Cadets while attending the 'tute, if only for a semester, or while sucking sour grapes at some continuation school? I remember feeling anything but "stuck up" while existing at the bottom of the food chain as a New Cadet for six long months. I remember the rest of my busy ROTC days at NMMI making Army Basic Training seem slow by comparison. I remember Roswell as a great town with great people, and I never felt "better than everyone else", but then again, I never met you. Studying for college and training for war on the weekends doesn't give one much time to meet zeros shooting from the lip at some internet cafe. Too busy getting ready to "defend our country" as you say. The Cadets walking down Main St. to the Dairy Queen aren't "pretending to be great," they're just looking forward to a short break from a demanding lifestyle that you pretend to know something about. I guess every state in the union is entitled to have at least one jerk in it. The rest of the state more than makes up for ya'!

OK, Jes, I gess those brats can rily be upseting to a guy like you. Wereing clean cloze, going to scool, and woking around like they think that there future is gonna be better thann yours!! And then theres the times they cross the street in the crosswok and make you slow down on yur way to the bar after a hard daze work puttin up with yor illegal alien cowerkers. I put myself in yore shues, and it all makes sence now. I understand yore "freakin' opinion". Think I'll leeve it, and stikk to what I sed befor. Drive on man, and peace be unto your trailer house. I don't have kids old enough to go to NMMI. Where do your kids go to school, or do you know?

i would be more than happy to tell you what my probelms are, and i am not pointing this on you but i have lived here long enough to see different things some off you do.
1) before i got my degree i was working at a few restaurants here in town as a server.
we would have up to 20 caddets come in, eat, be rude, acting as if they are better than anyone else, and then they dont tip.
2) when people are driving down main street, dont you think it would be a better idea to use a crosswalk instead of holding up traffic so you can go to hastings.
3) after i worked for restaurants i also worked for a hotel, in town, when the parents come to visit, they let us know they are better than us, by beeing rude, expecting us to jump on command, find everything to complain about, mess up the lobby without even considering cleaning up after them selves. i mean come on is it to hard to push a chair back under the table.
as i said i dont know you personally, which is prolly because i dont go near nimmi to avoid hitting one when they cross the street, and you may be nice. but this is how i feel about the caddets, and maby if they would stop acting like the rich spoiled brats they are, i would not mind them so much.

Jessy,
I was born and raised in Roswell. Educated in both the Roswell school system and NMMI.
My father delivered just under 5,000 babies in Chaves County. More than anyone else in the history of the county. I know what goes on in Roswell.
You paint with a very large brush and fail to point out there are many other's in Roswell who can be placed in the same categories you are placing these cadets. It sounds more like you resent those parents who spent their time and hard earned money to try to improve their life and that your parents didn't do the same for you.
Most of the parents are very average citizens doing what ever they can for their children and sacrificing to do so.
Your statements are prejudice and show your narrow mind.
My father waited tables putting himself through medial school and had no outside help. He also never collected more than 50% of his bills as he had a big heart and could not dun people. Many could not pay and that was they way it was. However, there were many who took advantage of him too. He has delivered as many as 18 babies for one woman and never collected one penny.
Remember most of the leader's in Roswell are NMMI graduates.
Since you are a lawyer, as you state, you should be highly aware of the high number of legal professionals (not to mention accountants, doctors, etc.) in Roswell who attended NMMI.
I would also think a lawyer should at least spell better than I do.
Final analysis maybe you need to think about getting the chip off your shoulder.

sorry carl, maby i should have not gotten so rude with you but your post is very offending. and you are exactly what i hate about the caddetts always better than everyone, cause daddy had money.
what you dont realize is just cause you went to a certain school does not make you any better than anybody. my father raised us VERY well and we ALWAYS had everything we needet. my brother went to iraq because he (just like others) would ratter fight for this country than be considered a snobby brat.

Hey Jessy

You do realize that a huge percentage of cadets here are on financial aid right? Our parents aren't rich, but we applied and got in and the state helps us afford it. The reason we don't tip is because we can't afford to. We don't get paid and we're not allowed to have jobs. When we're in those restaurants is the only time of the week we get to act like normal kids, and that's all we're doing. We're not acting better than anyone. We just want to act normal for a little while before going back to the rigor of every day life on post. But of course no one treats us normally because we have to be in uniform.

P.S. 70% of the Junior College cadets are in ROTC or are prepping for service academies. We do not go to NMMI to pretend like we are better than anyone, we're going here to train ourselves as leaders for the military you claim to support. Nearly all ROTC cadets graduating from NMMI have or will see combat in Iraq or Afghanistan within the next two years. When you see those red stripes on our shoulder boards, pause for a minute before thinking "I hate that brat" because that "brat" might die for you one day soon. We are here, most of us in the college, because we love our country and are willing to fight and die for it, not because we think we're better than you or anyone else. I would hardly call myself more qualified in any way than a lawyer or more deserving of respect. I came to NMMI to begin a five year journey through military school that will end in my commissioning as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. That is why I am here, and yes, as an officer in training I will conduct myself in the best possible manner, not because I think that I am better than anyone who acts differently than me, but because that is what is expected of an officer in the United States Military.

Just think about who exactly you're calling a snobby brat. Maybe thank a cadet, as you slow down to let him cross the street for his one hour of freedom that week, for going to fight so that you don't have to.
