Actually, African American sponsorships and programs exist AS A RESULT of segregation. We did not segregate ourselves. If African Americans were allowed an education, acceptance into all-white schools, sports leagues, and accreditation in music and other talents, there would never have been a need to develop these programs in the first place.

Wrong bimbo... blacks did indeed segregate themselves and continue to do so today. Downtown Atlanta is continually striving to keep white people from living in the city and stop them from buying property in black neighborhoods.

There has always been some mixing and always some segregation. After the Civil War blacks created their own communities and stayed away from whites. You seem ignorant of the fact that Jim Crow and legal segregation began in the 1890s and was designed to minimize racial conflicts that cropped up whenever the races mixed freely.

Don't even offer that lame education excuse. There was never segregation in public schools in 75% of the states. Public education in the south began for blacks and whites at the same time in the 1860s. Prior to that, there was no public education for whites in southern states. Free public and private education for 'blacks only' was begun by the Federal government under the Republican Party in the 1860s [search Freedmen's Bureau]. Abolitionist groups began black only schools and provided books and teachers also in the 1860s. Howard University was opened for blacks only in 1870 as were numerous other all black institutes of higher learning. The Republicans were the first of many white groups to sponsor black education and many of those groups still sponsor black education today.

All black pro baseball was more successful than all white baseball, drew bigger crowds, and even paid higher salaries to top players. Louis Armstrong owned a black pro baseball team bought with the wealth he accumulated by playing to sold out white jazz audiences.

What you seem to believe is what the abolitionist crowd has misrepresented as facts for two centuries.

YOU look up gentrification and then edit your first paragraph. Atlanta has torn down tens of housing projects over the past decade, repleting itself with areas like Atlantic Station and V. Highlands with 900 sqft condos that cost $200-300K. What do you mean Atlanta is constantly trying to keep white people out of the city? Even our white audience knows better than that! Atlanta has long since become a major attraction to people nationwide, and because of it, the city opted to reform itself and boot out the working poor and unemployed.

With regards to your response to the "learned" gentleman, You Go Boy!!!! Shame, I've always wanted to visit Atlanta and Savannah Have family in Elberton, Ga and Harlysville SC. Most definitely will not visit Cummins with the nasty way they treated Oprah years ago and apparently still have issues based on some of these postings. I am sure it doesn't reflect the entire population...Shame though. You'd think they'd care what the rest of the world thought of them. Makes American's look like hypocrites when we're critcal of other countries behavior's towards their people and we have people behaving like this in our presidential race.

It has been white people who have torn down those houses(before they fell down)and have built modern homes in their place. The black city administration has fought tooth and nail to stop the white population growth that threatens their entrenched mismanagement and political power. It was the avowed racist, Sherry Dorsey, who railed out loud against gentrification and embarrassed fellow black leaders by exposing their strategies of writing city building codes against the white "McMansions". Atlantic Station is indeed an example with their requirements for "low income" housing to be mixed with the upscale units. You lie when you claim that Atlantic Station was formerly public housing. Atlantic Station was the industrial Atlantic Steel Mill that was a vacant eyesore for decades.
Another example is the luxury "retirement condos" that are nothing but a front for black subsidized housing where political supporters are enticed from leaving the city.

The city and county are nearly crime free, have a wonderful community spirit, have very high educational levels, have no racial problems whatsoever, and have the nicest people you will find anywhere. Oprah's show misrepresented Cumming as only biased liberals can. Oprah flat out lied when she claimed that black people had been chased out of the county and their land stolen from them. She was referring to 75 years ago when a few black people sold their land and left the county on their own decision. She lied when she claimed that a black guy had been lynched there. There was a black criminal who was beated to death, not lynched, back in the 1920s. Some of the posts on this thread are from people from cummins and their not "friendly". Do the people of cummins like the negative attention this bar owner has brought to cummins. He is not intelligent. As a business owner, I wouldn't dare do what he did, just to make a political statement. He's going to get sued.

I NEVER said that Atlantic Station was previously public housing. If you consider the area that lies ADJACENT to Atlantic Station, you would realize that black and mixed neighborhoods worth $150-$200K (like the series that ran up and down Northside Drive) were all renovated, and luxury condos were built in its place. Not to metion the development of completely upscale restaurants and mini malls strips that forced the value of the surrpunding properties to go up, that the original inhabitants could no longer afford.
Since apparently, you are only familiar with the steel mills that became the atlantic station parking garages..LOL..I'll move to another area.

Let's consider just EAST of downtown - Hosea J Williams Ave, Moreland, etc. If you're brave enough, ride through the area. Then come back and tell us how a little shack, not bigger than a 1 bedroom apartment now sells for $250K -(oh and since you are a non-believer, there are signs advertising everywhere) and the official claim is that these grounds are being renovated at higher costs since they are on 'historical confederate ground'.
Trying to keep whites out? Ha! Even the whites who lived in little five points PROTESTED against the atlantic station development, because they were also now unable to keep up with the living expenses and were being pushed out farther into the suburbs. Even the white had been victims of gentrification in this area just a few years back when Virginia Highlands arose. DUH
As for you previous comments, you didn't have any questions to answer. You just made a bunch of incorrect statements that I didnt feel like rebutting. Sure in the 18th and 19th centuries, it was difficult for whites, as well as blacks to earn an education. I haven't argued that FACT. But the FACT is, there were dozens, hell tens of dozens of whites that were able to matriculate an education as compared to low numbers of blacks that still couldn't even read and write (due to no fault of their own).
Your account of Jim Crow Laws is VERY misleading.
-Firstly, Jim Crow laws mandated de jure segregation in all public facilities, with a supposedly "separate but equal" status for black Americans and members of other non-white racial groups. In reality, this led to treatment and accommodations that were usually inferior to those provided for white Americans, systematizing a number of economic, educational and social disadvantages.
Some examples of Jim Crow laws are the segregation of public schools, public places and public transportation, and the segregation of restrooms and restaurants for whites and blacks. These Jim Crow Laws were separate from the 1800-66 Black Codes, which had also restricted the civil rights and civil liberties of African Americans. State-sponsored school segregation was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of the United States in 1954 in Brown v. Board of Education. Generally, the remaining Jim Crow laws were overruled by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

It never fails me that a racist's concept of fairness is always skewed in his favor.
