A college student is running for mayor I see. When someone worth voting for finally runs, I vote. Many others have been waiting for the same chance.
I predict a huge turnout of voters to vote against a certain candidate and get him OUT! Hope that candidate doesn't decide its best not to run again - just to avoid a defeat on his record and a blow to his ego. |

Who is running?

It's a 20-year-old Ripon College Student who feels the city isn't doing enough for the College.
I'm all about having a race for mayor, but I find it funny that those who complain about the current mayor being in the back pocket of the College would be willing to elect a Ripon College student who would only fight for the College. It's amazing how far hatred goes - especially when one doesn't know everything. I don't expect the usual people on here to care what I'm saying, and I do expect them to just say I'm ignorant and crazy - and if that makes those individuals happy, great. I just find it funny that voting for this young man has nothing to do with what he wants or will do for the city/college, but has all to do with the fact that someone personally hates the current mayor - without a good reason. |

I wouldn't normally vote for a college kid to run our town. The college already gets what it wants and Pape is already on the council talking for 20 minutes about how he would've voted in the college's favor if he hadn't abstained. I heard the kid was sick of the current mayor and so are alot of us who will vote against that current mayor. I highly suspect the mayor brought it on himself over the years. He just pushed and pushed and made us angrier and angrier. We pay the price with him in office and we'll pay the price for having a college kid in office. We're screwed but the current mayor has got to go.

A 20 year old Ripon College student who appears to have got in trouble more than once for disorderly conduct and who's also competing in that Mr. Ripon contest. We're not given much choice for mayors are we?

Questions voters should ask of young Custer:
(1) How long have you lived in the City of Ripon independent of being a Ripon College student? (1B) How many summers have you lived in Ripon? (2) Do you own a house or otherwise pay property taxes in the City of Ripon? (3) Where in Ripon have you been involved in community activities independent of the college? (4) It's been said that you're running for office because you feel the city is insufficiently obsequious to the college. Elaborate with specific examples. Explain why having one of the largest downtown buildings given to the college and thus taken off the property tax rolls is insufficient. (5) Explain why city residents, whose property taxes pay for government services that Ripon College uses without paying for them (as with other nonprofits), should vote for a Ripon College student to spend their taxes. (6) If you do not win the election, do you plan to stay in Ripon after graduation? |

I would join your effort, if I knew what were paying for with the current person in office. My taxes aren't going up, and I don't see a lot going wrong BUT I am not going to vote for some kid on campus without knowing anything about his issues, other than he is sick of the current guy.
Ripongirl needs says the college kid feels the city is not doing enough for the college, but the next person says the college gets what it wants. Confusing to say the least. |

And what is the Mr. Ripon contest? Is that like Miss Oshkosh?
|

Well, at least I'm happy to see it's a civil debate on here, and not a bunch of name calling/insulting. I don't know much about the young man running - just the basics like his age, where he came from, the fact that he's a college student and wants more done for the college. In the same respect, LicketySplit is right about the CCAP information...not sure what the grounds were for his "record," but it doesn't look great either.
It will be interesting this coming spring, that's for sure. |

It's shame many residents will cast their votes against the current mayor out of despise and we'll get a kid who doesn't know up from down yet pretending to be mayor in a town he doesn't care about. This kid is just looking to grease his political resume and his connections with the college.
As for asking this college kid what he cares about a town he's barely lived in, doesn't pay taxes in, wants to help an already very helped college, and doesn't call home - I'd say that's how alot of us felt when these kids voted for the artificial turf because that's what the college wanted and we have to pay for. But our mayor was all for the college kids' votes then. He reaps what he sows and he should've thought about that a long time ago. |

I have noticed how the college's participation in Ripon's community has metamorphasized into an invasion of Ripon's government and education.
Ripon residents can't and don't join in decision making for the college's private life or government. But the college is planting moles all over the place in Ripon. Good organization efforts have become domination on the college's part. The college uses our mayor until it gets enough of what it needed and Ripon is left stuck in the college's back pocket for Ripon's piddly survival. |

The turf vote lost. Twice. "I have noticed how the college's participation in Ripon's community has metamorphasized into an invasion of Ripon's government and education. HOLY CRAP - DO you actually believe what you write....or are you drunk and have an excuse?????????? You need to provide some specific examples when you post crap like this. |
||||
Took the words out of my mouth. |
||||
Ok, so if you think there are moles, name them. Come on. If you are going to make this claim, then finish it. Name them. Call them out..........should we hold our breath? |

Umm..Glenn Beck..love your show but I don't need to give examples to prove my opinion. You of all people should know about constitutional rights and freedom of speech.
|

You're taxes are getting jacked up - for everything - from everywhere. |

Maybe Ripon54971 is in prison since their taxes are not going up.
