if the college pushes bikes off a hill really really fast they might fly for a short time.... try to think more positive!

I think positive not stupid.
how sad |
I dont live in Ripon but after reading this thread I would never start a business in Ripon! The residents sound very exclusive and objectionable to anybody that wasnt born and raised there.
The town of Ripon must be named for its penchant of "ripping" on businesses. So a businessman moved there and tried hard to be a success and failed. Thats sad. I'm sure the business owner was not trying to fail. There have been no suggestions that the business used illegal immigrants or child workers or polluted the town and then left. So why the hatred? If you truely want more business to come there and replace this company be positive and learn how the mayor and councilpeople can create a climate to bring in more business. |

Positive stuff from someone pretending to know potential or corruption from a few posts? More sad.

Is post #45 a joke???
in reference to: "Is post #45 a joke???"
well, of course!!! why would anyone suggest that the ripon community support its small businesses??!! that is ludicrous! those businesses should exist solely for our amusement!! so we can all ignore them. and then gossip about them when they finally give up the ghost. nothing is funnier or more juicy than talkin' smack about mom and pops who have spent countless hours and loads of their own savings fretting away the hours hoping that riponites will accidentally wander downtown and be trapped into parting with a couple of dollars... it is damn funny to think of those people going into debt because they had the ridiculous notion that a 'tight knit and caring' community like ripon would be interested in supporting the little guy instead of only giving a **it about the faceless giant corporation in another town. it's funny to torture them by giving them business advice.... it's funny to bring hordes of freeloaders downtown for nights like dickens, getting their hopes up, trashing their stores, and then NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN!!! hahahahaaa!!!! so, yeah, it's a joke! after all, when a business downtown is operating successfully, it might tie up parking spaces and generally keep me from zooming through watson street at top speed to get to walmart! when we support downtown businesses, we are only encouraging them to breed and create more little downtown businesses.... I SAY WE STOP FEEDING THEIR HOPES ENTIRELY and just close those three downtown blocks of watson street ---- MAYBE THEY WILL FINALLY ALL GO AWAY and stop pestering us with their unique goods and services!! once they are all gone, we can increase the speed limit downtown so i can get to walmart faster!! after all, that is what we want, isn't it????? who is with me???? |

horseapples - the best post I have read on here in a long time. But remember, 99 percent of the negative posts on here come from one person, who 99 percent of the people in town ignore
I've posted 99% of the negative posts. I don't want anyone questioning anything our city is forcing the residents to pay for. Who do these little people think they are - they think they're smarter and more powerful than the city leaders? Puuulleeez! Go dig into your wallets little people - we're coming for more!
ah, shux.(blush) and many thanks unfortunately, as well as ignoring the negative poster, that 99% is also ignoring supporting the downtown.... seems ripon does not want to claim responsibility for the failure of many little businesses in our midst: our unwillingness to feed the quaint small town shopkeepers we all claim to love so dear by actually frequenting ( and i don't mean once every two years) their businesses, is resulting in their ultimate demise. it is primarily our fault as a community -- not boca's, not the mayor, not the chamber of commerce, not the weather, etc... it is our fault that downtown storefronts have revolving doors. if we want the unique little shops, the quaint 'everybody knows your name' customer service, the bustling little downtown that didn't fail like all of the other little downtowns that are struggling and dying everywhere, than it is up to us to make a real effort to go there on a regular basis and put our money where our mouth is...... if we could all direct our energy into helping our downtown succeed instead of spending so much effort looking for reasons for boca, etc to fail, we might really have something to be proud of rather than b*tching about. just sayin' there are a bunch of great little shops in ripon's downtown.... i wonder if anyone knows or cares. |
Horseapples - good points, but you have to understand it is easier to b***h and play the blame game. It is easier to cry wolf and post rumors and little tidbits of gossip. It is easier to write letters in the paper with blatantly flase claims (get a lesson in civics before you write another letter) and repeating the coffeeshop rumblings. It is easier to whine and point fingers and claim wild conspiracies exist rather than have anything actually constructive to contribute.
People can and will vote with their money. Should've thought of that piece of power that can't be take away. If no one cares then the shops ain't great. I'll drive right by Ripon as fast as I want to get to Menards or Target or Wisconsin Dells. Places I want to spend my money at because they have something I actually want.
[QUOTE and repeating the coffeeshop rumblings.[/QUOTE]
Coffeshop rumblings like the boys club, politics taking place (like clockwork)at Ripon McDonald's (the West-end City Hall)? That coffeeshop rumblings? |
I'm thweatened by the contructive criticism from those coffee shops! I want a cheeseburger with my fwends!
so,, clarabell, what is it that would you like to see downtown?
how about a strip club? now THAT was a successful business! give the people what they want, i say!! the dells? why yes! flimsy trinket stores, cheap native american knockoff toys, gaudy shows, pottersville! sounds lovely! sounds a lot like what everyone in ripon is afraid boca will do...... worried about ripon's quality of life? what a load of crap. i think ALL chain stores.... so we know what mediocre crap we're getting -- at least we can rely on mediocre crap! cheaper and more of it is always better, ain't it? isn't that the american way? RA RA RA! |
Shame on you horseapples. Don't present real ideas on here. This is a board for simple-minded people to rant and rave about things they don't understand, like running a business. All you are doing is getting the self-appointed Town Messiah riled up, and she should be accusing you of being the mayor or a college official or voting for turf or a Boca supporter in about three, two, one...
By the way, I like your thoughts. Too bad they will be ripped apart. |
I don't buy flimsy trinkets in Wisconsin Dells to enjoy what the Dells offers. I didn't say anything about quality of life. Ripon should know cheap - cheap mentality, simpletons sold on a simpleminded bill of cheap goods. People with money to spend know quality goods and quality standards - not in Ripon!
But if you want to start a risk free business come to Ripon! Our city lends millions of taxpayer dollars to shiny businesses with empty promises! |
"cheaper and more of it is always better, ain't it? isn't that the american way?"
That's the Ripon, Wisconsin way! Woo hoo! |
i am the lorax! i speak for the trees!
or, maybe, i am george bailey...... funny that the ripon blog is so venomous compared to others. is this the quality of life we are trying to preserve? neighbors threatening neighbors who have opposing viewpoints? not unaccustomed to being ripped.... and don't think i haven't heard all this local venom up close and personal in real life too -- not just the blog-a-sphere.... folks around here aren't worried about hiding behind virtual personas... really very sad. |
Bye bye to the strip club! Hello to fake Irish pubs and fake Norman Rockwell walls in a Chucky Cheese setting!
