Study favors inland high-speed St. Paul-to-Chicago rail corrido...

Full story: TwinCities.com

A St. Paul-to-Chicago high-speed passenger rail line running through Rochester, Minn., would provide faster service and higher ridership and generate more revenue than a route along the Mississippi River, according to a study released Wednesday by a Rochester-based organization.

These people think we have an endless supply of money to throw away. Anyone suggesting this type of nonsense needs to get the boot starting with B. Hussain and the rest of the Demthuglicrats. We can't afford them anymore.

A while back when we had trains, someone came up with a faster route to Chicago; it starts at the airport.

The weekend that started violently has ended the same way.

Another four people were slain overnight, Chicago police said this morning.

Before that, six people had been killed and more than 20 wounded on city streets from Saturday into Sunday.

From the start of the holiday weekend midnight Friday until the early hours of this morning there were 63 shootings and one stabbing, according to police sources.

The most recent homicides include:

• Everette Snow, 18, of the 2200 block of East 78th Street. He was shot mutliple times, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police responded to a call at about 1 a.m. today and found Snow shot in the head, said News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. A stepbrother who fled the scene is now in custody, police said, but no charges have been filed yet.

• Deonte Scott, 22, of the 400 block of West 116th Street was found shot outside of his home at about 11 p.m. Sunday, police said. Scott was outside his residence when three offenders approached and shots rang out, police said. The three offenders fled the scene, police said. It is not clear if all three were firing weapons.

• Kenneth Crawford, 38, of the 2600 block of 69th Street, was killed as he sat on a front porch with

It’s a good thing they have strict gun control in Chicago otherwise there would be...wait, never mind.

Between the gun bans, draconian ownership laws, and all of those social welfare programs... Chicago is a Paradise.

As someone from the Twin Cities who now lives in Chicago, I would LOVE to see a high-speed rail line between the the Twin Cities and Chicago. I have 2 small children who cannot make it in the long car ride back home, and we do fly home whenever possible, but by the time you take into account the commute to the airport, parking, check-in, security, boarding, and tarmac delays it can sometimes take almost as much time to fly as to drive. I would use a high-speed rail service at least 3 times a year -- so nice to be able to walk around and not be confined to your seats.

We would also use it to get to Rochester to attend medical conferences hosted by Mayo. There are so many fantastic conferences there but airfare between CHI and Rochester is pretty expensive, so it would be VERY nice to have a direct route.

As a high speed rail supporter I am extremely grateful for this study. If we are going to spend this kind of money to create a 21st century transportation system we had better look at all the options and build these lines through the most efficient areas possible.

I would love to see this train up and running tomorrow, but not at the expense of what makes the most long term sense.

Let's build, but make sure we do it right the first time. We only have one shot at this, especially if the first line is a failure.

Now I know your nuts. Just keep the printing presses going full tilt to the end of days right? No better way to make sure the dollar is worthless and you would be carting a wheelbarrel full of thousands just to by twinky.

Cap-And-Fade
Posted 09/30/2009 06:58 PM ET

Climate Change: The Senate has finally rolled out its long-awaited cap-and-trade bill to slash carbon dioxide. Looking at its draconian restrictions on the U.S. economy, it's hard to believe its supporters are serious.

The Boxer-Kerry bill isn't a whole lot different from the Waxman-Markey bill that was passed by the House of Representatives in June. And that's the problem.

Both bills provide for a "cap-and-trade" system to slash the use of fossil fuels and replace them with solar, wind and other "alternative" energy sources. The idea is to impose strict limits on the output of CO2, a supposed cause of global warming.

If this sounds like a good idea, it isn't. It'll lead to massive new taxes, the demise of entire industries, the elimination of millions of jobs and lost income for all. As the Heritage Foundation found when it ran the numbers on Waxman-Markey, the economic losses entailed in imposing cap-and-trade are enormous.

Over 23 years, a cap-and-trade plan would slash $9.4 trillion from GDP and kill 2.5 million jobs. It would hike gasoline prices by 58%, or $1.40 a gallon. Home electricity rates would soar 90%.

All told, cap-and-trade could cost families an added $1,761 a year in taxes. And no, that's not an estimate cooked up by anti-cap-and-trade activists. That's the White House's own estimate for the costs, which it tried to hush up. Taxpayers will have to pony up as much as $200 billion a year in new taxes, the equivalent of raising everyone's taxes by roughly 15%.

"Economic costs will likely be on the order of 1% of GDP, making them equal in scale to all existing environmental regulation," said a confidential White House memo, written late last year and obtained recently by the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

Worst of all, neither the House's bill nor the Senate's will work.

The Senate version would slash CO2 output by 20% by 2020 and 83% by 2050, from 2005 levels. Waxman-Markey, by comparison, would cut 17% by 2020.

Supporters point out that we've already sliced our CO2 output in the last two years. We could do more, they say. Sure, but we haven't cut CO2 output because of any green initiative. We've cut it by suffering the worst recession in at least two decades.

Some advocates seem not to mind that they would hobble the economy permanently due to totally arbitrary CO2 output "targets."

Unfortunately, as of today, the technology to radically reduce fossil fuel use without crashing the economy simply doesn't exist. So to reach the goal means, inevitably, massive economic contraction.

This article brought to you by the "Thought Police" in conjunction with their partner Mass Media.

"Study Favors" which leads the reader to think this MUST be a good idea...of course.

What it fails to tell you is that there are inumerable other meansof transport between here and Chicago that are both quicker and more cost effective.

Mass transit and climate change are just tools used for social engineering. Go away already.

Just so you are aware a train is not "21st Century" transportation system. It's a 19th century system that just goes a little faster.

Of course it makes more sense to go thru Rochester! Not just faster, but a lot more people can take advantage. In fifty years Rochester will almost be part of the Twin Cities. It would be nice to have the well paid folks in Rochester be able to easily get up here and spend some of their money.
Unfortunately, we are talking about politics here. Government is rarely efficient, and ultimately favoritism always outweighs prudence. Sorry Rochester.

Why in the world are we even considering this? It's a waste of taxpayer dollars. Anyone that has anyplace to get to on time is taking a plane flight. And will this monsrosity be able to compete with $100 plane tickets to Chicago? Not likely.

Regardless whether or not the high-speed rail is built, someone's going to be p*ssed off.

Either build it or don't. Stop throwing more money at it for doing studies.

Let's face it... The government hasn't exactly been spending our tax dollars 'correctly' for years. Here is an opportunity for real and true growth! It's called progress...it's called evolution. If you don't like it, step aside and let at least your children enjoy the benefits of the smart decisions of others. Some of you were probably even against the Xcel being built. This rail line will prove to be a great asset to the Twin Cities and other cities along the path!

All aboard.... This plan makes more sense than some of the other proposals we've seen. How cool would it be to catch a Wild game in St. Paul and then catch a train to Chicago to watch another sporting event in less than four hours...The benefit with this plan is that if you over indulge in Chicago and get sick, you can stop off in Rochester and go to Mayo to get patch up.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Scorpio

Something that you've always taken for granted or believed implicitly could have a big question mark hanging over it during the next few weeks. The more entrenched your views are about this, the more difficult it will be to accept that perhaps it's time for a change of opinion or, at the very least, a revaluation of what you think. Mercury turns retro in your house of communications, so do your best to be open-minded now.
