While I understand the Minnesota connection, why is this in the news? I bet at least one person from MN dies in a car crash every day somewhere, but we don't have articles about them in the paper, even the ones that die in crashes here. Why is one in Oregon somehow significant?
I was thinking there was more to the story, but apparently not... |

Matt. Why even leave a comment like that? Keep posts like that to yourself. After all, if my opinion doesn't count, neither does yours.

St. Paul,MN. population:277,251
Tenmile OR. Population: 860 When someone dies here--it makes the news. DEAL with it. BTW, I am sure your opinion is not based in fact because a quick google search using the words; 'Saint Paul Car crash kills' came up with 46,200 hits. While I am sure some of them are irrelevent,I am also sure some are pertaining to the search. I skimmed about 10 just to be sure. Yep--people in Saint Paul, do not fear. If you are killed in a car crash, the news will still dutifully be reported regardless of what incredible70 says. Also--about you thinking maybe there was more to the story, be thankful. If you were reading about your own loved ones, there probably would be a lot more to the story than you ever wanted to know. Show a little respect. Opinions are great, but try to remember, somewhere someone has lost someone they love. Would you want someone saying their death was not newsworthy? |

First, way to use faulty reasoning. Just because that search came up with 46,200 hits, doesn't mean that every car crash death is St. Paul is in the newspaper. A search of 'St Paul Circus Accident' comes up with 164,000 hits. I suppose that means there are 3+ times as many circus accidents in St. Paul as there are car crash deaths, right? Everything is newsworthy to SOMEONE, but it is the news industries job to determine which stories are newsworthy to enough people to publish it to the masses. There are millions of stories happening right now that will never be in the paper, because it simply isn't interesting to more than a few people. In this case, I'm sure some night editor was just searching AP stories for 'Minnesota' and this popped up. This may be news in Tenmile (the reason the story was written in the first place), but that doesn't make it news for the masses here in the big city. Stories like this explain why the newspaper industry is dying...rather than going out and digging for local stories that are of interest for thousands or millions of people, they just rip off AP content that some bumpkin wrote in small-town USA. |
