I would like to think that El Pasoans are a warm and welcoming bunch, especially to our military and their families. My father was a Marine (Korean War) and we've always been pro-military.

I don't think color or race should matter. What is somewhat disturbing is when I read postings on certain forums that are written by some military members trashing El Paso. Others state that El Paso does not welcom them.
I can't speak for all of El Paso but I would like to think that we as a community welcome the military and their families with open arms.

I have a very fond memory of the woman who taught me and my whole 5th grade class our national anthem. I attended Burleson Elementary and Mrs. Leona Bailey was my teacher.
She said it was very important for all children to know how to recite and sing their National Anthem. She made us proud little American Hispanics. She had the most beautiful eyes and a matching smile. She was African American. Every time I hear the National Anthem, she comes to mind. She also used to play her favorite song, "Eddie my Love" I think that was the title and I think she said her husband's name was Eddie too. I'm not 100% on that fact.

I did not know about Dr. Nixon. He is a real hero. Thank you for telling his story. We should celebrate him more.

Believe it or not, you'll enjoy doing some domestic shopping today. For a start, it will be an interesting challenge to negotiate your way through the hordes of shoppers without getting mown down by a runaway trolley, and you'll also enjoy seeing what's on offer. Keep an eye open for bargains and be prepared to be flexible about some of the items on your shopping list.
