People must be careful about the gap. This is not the LIRR's fault.
Lateness, crowding, cr@p service, lack of self respect, no communication, arrogance, stupidity, obsolesence, price gouging, and basically sucking the life blood out of New York City...these are all things that LIRR is responsible for. But not the gap.

She probably had a lawyer all lined up before she slipped into the gap.

with ALL the news coverage for the past couple years on the gap INCIDENTS you would think people would finally get a freaking clue.
glad she's not seriously hurt, but c'mon people! How can you not even think about the gap anymore.

First of all, I hope the woman recuperates quickly. Second, I've been riding the Long Island Railroad for over 40 years, and believe me, there has always been a gap problem as far as I could remember into the 1960s. Why now all of these injuries? That's the question that should be answered. Are we becoming more careless?

I'm not saying she was, but drunks and individuals under the influence of drugs and prescribed medications have a tendency to fall quite often. People have to be more responsible for their actions.

Neil Armstrong never complained about the gap.

While the ap is a problem, i am not sure it is the problem that it is being made out to be.
Then again, with the rise in gas prices, there are more people taking to mass transit. These new people may not have had that "Step over the hole" training that the rest of us did.
Perhaps the time has come to toss myself in the gap, get a settlement, and move out of New York.

I'm sure Mr. Dolan is very happy that his $650 million investment places a LIRR gap accident where a woman suffers stratches on her leg as the second headline on the website!

But Newsday doesn't put that on the front page, because it isn't part of the prize-winning reporting agenda. Maybe people would be more responsible if had the modern day version of the stock in the village square by posting her picture with the article. village idiot could be the caption.

Did she call her attorney on the way to the hospital?

Funny, I've ridden the commuter train from MD to DC for almost 4 years and have NEVER heard of a gap incident, and we have gaps! And the conductors remind people all the time to watch the gap.
Just pay attention folks. Trains can't get THAT close to the platform or you'd hear about crashes all the time. Good grief. It's like people getting hurt on escalators -- pay attention!

Tina Fey wrote: It's not her fault!!! She was chewing gum at the same time!!!! *LOL*- Clearly it is time for a strong law banning "WWCG" (walking while chewing gum). They can attach it as a rider on the idiotic pool alarm bill.

I have been riding the trains for 15 years. If you don't see the gap and can't avoid it you are just being careless. This hole thing is getting ridiculous. Open you eyes and watch were you step. It really isn't that hard. I have seen small children navigate this allegedly treachous gap. Our whole society it getting way too comfortable at blaming others for their own stupidity.
