I'd say...talk to the mayor's office... the city clerk (she is the grand poobah of permits). Nice way to bite the hands that feed hundreds of thousands of tax dollars into this economy each and every year!!!!!

if it is illegal, why don't the police arrest them. or arrest the city clerk for giving them the permit.
or the police can turn there head.
if you went to the zoning board they would table it for 2 months, but that is only for the tax payers in Rome. if you,re a transit you just get a permit from the city clerk.

Nobody says anything when a local bank holds a used car sale in violation of the code every year for the past 6-7 years in a residential district, but everyone criticizes the current administration for trying to be consistent. to do otherwise , opens up the city to liability. Maybe before you criticize, you should get all facts and perspectives.

Well perhaps Davidson's will just have to find some way to compete. i know it is the small town way to have a monopoly on a product and sit back and collect a profit isnt this a capitalist country and we have the right to sell and buy as we please? yes I think so, in fact thats what everyone keeps screaming about when we suggest more or new regulations for things like this. Interesting that businesses have no problems sending jobs overseas and then increasing prices to boot and saying that it is not thier problem but when someone gets a little competition whoah watch out time to call for regulation. Besides, how many used car dealerships are there in Rome already? Like one more is going to break Davidson's? Heres another point, if this one more small used car dealer is going to break Davidson's then perhaps they were in trouble to begin with and should not have spent so much money on a new site when the original one was just fine. They just wanted to be in the line of dealers by Walmart and that is the only reason they moved. Might I suggest to Davidson's and any other angry car dealer that if you provide good service, do not lie to custmers, honor your promises, provide COMPETITIVE PRICINGm, and dont seel vehicles that need hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of repairs with a year of the sale then you may just run these guys out of town. No one is going to buy an over priced car from you if they can get the same or similiar one down the street for $4000 less. Isnt being competitive is what capitalism is all about? Your beloved no rules free enterprise we can do whatever we want stuff?

What the hell are you talking about.Where was that sale?? and even if it did happen you said the magic words "local bank".What are they trying to be consistent with? The real facts are if the city could have prevented this they should have.Thats just what the local merchants don`t need ,someone to come in don`t invest anything,,and don`t leave anything ie. repairs, gas, parts and labor and take the money.Liability my ass,the the liability belongs to local TAX payers. The facts are right in front of you,a tent and 100 cars and all the money going out of TOWN.This is exactly what Rome doesn`t need ,we need to keep every penny here.

Davidson’s new location worked its way through Rome’s Planning & Zoning Boards multiple times. The location is indeed zoned for a car dealership and car wash. Toss in the Drive-In for good measure!

Obviously you don't know what you're talking about. They are trying to be consistent with past practices, and if you were wise and understood things if the city is found liable then it affects the taxpayers.

I think you are misinformed.Davidsons didn`t send anyone overseas, they hired more local people, and spent a ton of money right here. The next time you see a GM comercial on TV take a look at the building. They are exactly like Davidsons in Rome.Thats because the factory wants all their places to look alike. Its either you as a owner conform or out you go,so they had no choice in the matter. If you look at the Utica GM store its under construction to look the same also. For some reason you are making statements about things with no knowledge.Rome has a fair amount of very well established new and used car dealers, thats sell quality new and used cars at fair prices. Please get your facts right before you make statements about Romes new and used car dealers, please make sense. These hard working tax paying dealers of Rome got screwed, thats a fact.

Not only NO, but HELL NO. Car dealers in Rome shold go there and bring their cars and set up right next to them. The don't need to sell them there but put enough cars around the dinks that did setup and make it hard for them. You don't need a permit to park your cars there. Tell the city you are rotating the rubber on the cars. Freaking outsiders coming in here and taking business away from us. The dam Chamber should also be up in arms over this. So should the businesses in the TOPS shopping center. This sucks canal water. The people of Rome should for once have a good reason to bitch now. Call the mayor. All of us call the mayor's office and tell him you don't like it. The city needs a lesson in SHOP ROME FIRST!

I never said Davidson's sends anything overseas. You obviously feel like I stole some of your thunder because you think your so smart by starting this thread but your post was average at best. You completely ignored the main points of my post. I know exactly what I am talking about.I used the oversea jobs comment as an example and analogy, apparently you are incapable of comprehending such a thing. I know many people who have bought cars and been lied to by local dealers so dont pretend like there all upstanding dealers, they do rip people off. Now, please know what you are talking about, we have a little thing called capitalism here in this country. Now who sounds like a socialist because theres a little new competition in town? This new lot has to pay taxes on the cars that they sell so I am not sure why you are whining about taxes "wackin weasel" and yes as for property tax a small lot would pay less than a large facility, very good. If Davivdson's wants to spend all that money on their lot to make it the same as the other GM dealers then that is what they must do if they want to be an official GM dealership. This new lot is not an official GM dealer. They sell used cars. Davidson's main focus is to sell new cars so your kind of comparing apples and oranges, and again I am not sure why your complaining about taxes. Davidson's is certainly welcome to sell the dealership and operate a small used car lot if they so chose. Please do not respond again to me unless you are going to intelligently discuss this. Ignoring points and acusing me of not knowing anything does not count, nor does attacking grammar and spelling. BTW you sound pretty close with Davidson's No?

I was paying cash, which by the way the dealers hated because they would not get any interest payments. Wow this is America and the dealers cringe when you want to buy a car and pay in full, very sad. My price range was anywhere between 8-12k. Victory had nothing in that price range and the saleman did not know the basic specs of a vehicle I asked about I have a fiend that bought a car from Rome VW, nothing but problems with it Davidsons's said they had nothing in that price range Cycle shack sells lemons Fazios was just way over priced Ceasars was over priced and the cars had high mileage on top of it. The place by pizza hut once sold my friend a car and 2 weeks later the engine was smoking. I had to go to Syracuse to find a properly priced car based on year and mileage and warranty and that is where I bought my car. Shop Rome first? talk about outsiders? I have lived in Rome for many years and try to fit in. My family is not from here and I am not Italian. Guess how many good jobs I have applied for in Rome and never even got an interview... All of them. Romes problem are much bigger than a new small delaer lot F U Rome
