No-Wake Law on Echo Lake Making Waves

Full story: www.flatheadbeacon.com

A boat full of teenagers and 20-somethings pulls a wakeboarder out of the shadows of a secluded bay on Echo Lake northeast of Bigfork. Nearby, two elderly men speed across the choppy water through a channel to an isolated fishing spot. These two parties have little in common, except both are breaking the law – and this summer, they’re more likely to be punished for it. via Flatheadbeacon.com

My family owns a cabin on echo lake for 39 years. We spend every summer there enjoying ourselves with family and friends. Boaters and waveruuners need to start slowing down in the bays. There are children and adults enjoying themselves out there swimming and riding in there paddleboats, relaxing on there floaters by there docks. There has been alot of accidents on echo lake in the past few years cause of people's stupity out there. Echo lake is not a big lake like flathead lake. How many more accidents are we gonna have on echo lake if you people dont obey laws? The wake can damage people's property like their docks, and never know how many will get injured out there again. SO START SLOWING DOWN OBEY THE LAWS!!!!!!!
For you Dane Hollinger go take your business somewhere else like flathead lake. I agree with Warden captain lee anderson. There should be laws on echo lake since it's a small lake.

I received a no-wake ticket out there this summer. I fish echo lake 3 times a week through the whole summer. I fish with a buddy in a 15ft fiberglass boat with a 1967 40hp engine. In other words it tops out at about 9 miles per hour. As I sat there receiving my ticket (for which the ranger said was a $140 fine) COUNTLESS wakeboard boats blasted by. I went to see the judge and it was $25. I laughed!!! Do FWP think a $25 fine for people with $60,000 wakeboard boats DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY TO PRODUCE BIG WAKE will phase them?

I never knew about the wakeboarding school out there. I've always wondered how that place turned into wakeboard central.

thanks for listening to my little banter. whew.

We ski echo lake every summer there. Heard about a no wake law there from family members. This summer when we were out there they had wild life fish and game there camping by the boat dock. Didn't even know they were there keeping an eye on boaters, but i never gotten a ticket yet, cause i obey the laws now cause of stupity of people complaining. Here they want to close down all ski boats at echo lake, hope they dont. I here there outstaters that are the ones complaining. Echo lake used to be a nice lake to ski and still is, untill people starting complaining. I never heard of a wake boading school out there either. I have seen some speed boats speeding and wave runners speeding into the bays. Do they care that these wakeboard boats speed by..... NO, $25 is nothing to them or anyone. They will just pay the fine and be right back out there. I know the fishermen dont like it when a ski boat goes flying by them while there trying to fish that's not right either. I dont know i just enjoy myself when im there every summer.

Okay well to begin The Swan Lake Wakeboarding Academy is a legit business and helps alot of kids who want to learn the basics of wakeboarding. And during the summer, Flathead Lake is way too choppy to successfully operate a wakeboarding academy there. The people who are the wakeboarding instructors are awesome people and do their best to make everyone happy, they keep their distance from other boats and are courteous to fishing boats near them by getting as far away as possible and going slower around them. And to top it all off, the instructor's house is on swan lake, so they can't just up and move their business to flathead. I think that this wakeboarding academy should continue and all of the bitchy complainers should just stop because it would be doing kids who just want to have fun an injustice. Oh and by the way , Dane Hollinger is an awesome guy. I went to the Swan Lake Wakeboarding Academy over this past summer. So piss off you whiners and get over it. Asking them to leave their business and home on echo lake is like them asking you to move to flathead lake. Not fair is it? They have the same rights to the water as you do.

Thank you! I'm not from Montana but i go up there every summer. You're totally right when you say that all of the whiny bastards need to move to Aspen or something where all of the rich people can huddle up and count their money in floating chairs on the no-wakeboarding lake. Leave Echo Lake alone, it's a perfect wakeboarding spot.

I am so tired of everyone blaming everyone else--NOONE should have to leave our beloved lake (I am a Montanian and have been visiting Echo Lake since I was 2!!). It would just be nice if there was still a common courtesy and respect for others, like there use to be. I was taught you can have fun, but if your next to swimmers or fishing boats BE COURTEOUS and SLOW DOWN--THERE IS ENOUGH LAKE FOR ALL OF US. I also have been stopped by the Wildlife Fish and Game twice a year, but never ticketed!! Yes I have had enough of out-of-staters buying property and taking our campgrounds, but hey I might just to have my wedding reception on another lake boohoo--anyone know if there's ANT campgrounds left for public use on Echo anymore????

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Gemini

You'll need every ounce of patience today because even the best-laid plans could go up in smoke under the Full Moon lunar eclipse. It seems that certain people are doing their best to throw spanners in the works, and the more annoyed you become the more they'll goad you still further. If there's dissent in the ranks about how to spend New Year's Eve, you may decide to go your own sweet way and prove that you're an individual in your own right. But try not to let any bad feelings mar the celebrations. Have a fantastic night!
