Proposition 22 was passed by a majority vote of the people of the State of California. Marriage is one man and one woman. Anything else must have another title to properly identify what is being represented.

How come straight people get so upset when gay people want to get married?

Doesnt affect me one way or another. They are going to be gay either way, and I'm going to be straight either way.

And its not going to convince my kids to be gay.....just fear and bigotry.

People are just stupid and intolerant. I'm straight and I couldn't care less if gay people want to get married. Have at it. It doesn't affect me at all.

Gay marriage should not be permitted and this ruling was wrong. I'm glad to see polling show that the proposed constitutional amendment is likely to pass in November in California. But let's get real: this was a 4-3 ruling, meaning that it was far from overwhelming. This was a power grab, nothing more.

Leaving human rights up to a popular vote strikes me as a bad idea. Given all the hatred and bigotry in this country I feel that without judicial involvement we'd still have segregation.

Should gays be able to marry ? Absolutely ! They deserve to be as miserable as the rest of us married heterosexuals...

Barbara Nagy said it best and Scott put it in it's simplest and most basic form.

Well said, both of you -- I couldn't have expressed it better.

I think we should vote on giving women the vote, giving blacks any rights (including the vote),and legalising abortion. Then you can vote on gay marriage. Sorry, constitutional rights shall not be "voted" on by the people. That's why we have courts: to maintain the freedoms enshrined in the constitution. Fifty years from now people will wonder what kind of idiots thought they could deprive gay citizens their rights with a special "election." Fools all!

This whole gay "marriage" thing really all comes down to whether you truly believe in Almighty God or not. He warned against practicing homosexuality numerous times, and things didn't work out too well for the city of Sodom! If you believe in God and wish to follow Him, you should be opposed to such an abomination as a "marriage" between the same gender. "If you love me, you will obey what I command", John 14:15.

If you don't care or don't believe, hey, live it up, do what you want. There are no consequences to your actions, right? Party on. Have sex with whoever you want, whenever you want. As long as it doesn't affect anyone else, you can do anything. It is OK, right?

We all have a choice...once we die, we can't change it. Either we believed in God and tryed to follow His commands, or we rejected Him and his commands. Choose wisely.

Hey, Ricardo, wanta know something? It was your God that made me homo; I didn't choose it. So, I'm supposed to follow your rules? I don't think so. I'm really tired of you holier-than-thou so-called christians trying to tell me what God wants me to do. You don't know, you haven't a clue. I bet you eat shrimp and talk with women during their periods, don't you? Then you should be stoned. Get with it, jerk, and mind your own business and be a real Christian.(That would involve loving your neighbors. Think you can do THAT? I have my doubts!)

We all have problems.
There is no reason to 'dig' up issues to make more problems.
We only live once - it should be in harmony.
We all make our own mistakes.
If there is a God, and he wishes to judge, that is fine.
I am no god and I will not judge.
If the argument is 'moral'- there is no argument - for there is not one of us who are in the position to 'judge' another.
If it is 'legal'- there is no argument - for a persons behavior is not a 'legal' issue (unless it hurts another).
If it concerns 'taxes' or 'money'- look 1st at the (higher) government employees (or ex-employees) and count the retirement wages and benifits received.
This is not an issue. It is simply another way to 'mis-direct' our attention to something that is not worthy of our thought.
