The below link contains pictures of the car flipped on Covina Avenue south of 2nds street near Legends Bar. Keep in mind that Covina Avenue is a narrow, single lane one-way street in a residential area with a 25 mph speed limit.

I was provided pictures of the green Toyota RAV5 (license number 4FAL018) that barreled into seven cars on Covina Avenue before flipping 200 feet from Legends bar November 5, 2009 at 11:00 pm. The car was driven by an over served drunken twenty something woman who reportedly lives on 7th street near the ocean in Seal Beach.
The police so far have refused to release the police report from that night to the VICTIMS, reportedly stating the investigation is not complete. The police say it may be weeks before they can release the police report to the VICTIMS. There are eleven security cameras at the rear of Legends bar, some of which are focused on the area where the incident occurred. Hopefully the police requested the videos of this incident from Legends owner Gene Rotondo. However, don’t be surprised if the video of this incident as well as the video of the patrons inside Legends bar the night of the incident has now been destroyed. The police reported they knew where the driver had been drinking that night but reportedly refused to release that information to the VICTIMS who are regularly impacted by the over served patrons of the 5 problem bars in Belmont Shore. It is also reported that one of the seven cars damaged by the over served driver was owned by a Legends’ bartender. Some commented about how ironic it was. Others said it was Karma. If residents want to learn more about this accident, I urge them to contact Councilman DeLong who spoke about this incident tonight at the Belmont Shore Residents Association Meeting. When asked what his plan was to address this pervasive problem, DeLong was again clueless and twice asked for suggestions from the audience. When a resident reminded DeLong that he had not followed through on previous suggestions as promised, he again did his deer in the headlights imitation while fumbling for a way to change the subject. |

1 Need I remind people that Councilman DeLong was Chairman of the Budget Oversight Committee that approved the reduction in the Long Beach police force by 100 officers in September? Long Beach now has the same number of sworn officers protecting the public that they had in 1999. |

1 Never mind that credit card statements spell out exactly what bar the drunks came from. Never mind that each bar has its own video security system that could identify whether the person had been served in the bar. If DeLong truly believe there is no way to identifying the source of the problem, then why isn’t he slapping a moratorium on new 2nd street bar and restaurants until this can be identified. Personally, I believe DeLong is full of it. Everyone knows where the problems originate. It just happens that the owner of that bar is one of his buddies. |

1 While they might not have been posted on this particular story numerous other stories regrading the same issue and area have been replte with, sound and thoiughful suggestions by Mike. My sense is that Mike is savy enough and cares enough about the area not to play the roll of spolier recognizing clearly he would be under funded and would draw votes away from the one that will be replacing De Long. 1 First of all, I've already responded more than once to your suggestion that I run for office. I suggest you review my previous posts for the ones you missed. Second, I've offered numerous suggestions numerous times in my post about how to improve out community. I suggest you review my previous posts for the ones you obviously missed. If it is anything specific, I can probably point you in the right direction. |

1 It's your right to criticize our elected officials. However, there comes a time to put up. Put your name on the ballot. See how it pans out. The P-T covers what you do and say. I'm sure they would give you all the press your need. |

Getting documents and videos requires subpoenas. Usually this will take a felony to be investigated. The police have to dot their i's and cross their t's or the evidence will be thrown out in court. We have privacy rights here in the U.S. Mr. Ruehle may not think those important but many of us do.
I do not think it prudent to have police just grabbing anything they want. |

As for police patrols, the only way to be certain that every inebriated person is caught is to station police outside every establishment on Second Street selling alcoholic beverages. That would take a lot of police. To do it selectively to just a few would be challenged in court as discrimination and the business would win. Sorry again Mr. Ruehle.
You may have suggestions but most of them will not pass muster in a court. |

It is so sad that Texans are being so cruel to this poor Muslim murderer. He should have done the crime in touchie feelie California.

1 SHORE RESIDENT'S colors are revealed by his post and they are putrid. How is where one might elect to have one's mail delivered germane to the discourse at hand? There are a variety of reasons one might elect to have mail delivered at a facility offering services such as the location referenced in SHORE RESIDENT'S-post which is void of fact, intelligence or truth. This individual however,is not one of them. However SHORE RESIDENT'S apparent proclivity for stalking is noted and will be passed on to those warranted to deal with such. Your counter to the funding issue is equally void of intelligence and is manifest evidence that you fail to grasp the unfortunate realities of economics of today's campaign costs. Laurence B. Nothing prevents the city from making it a condition of city business licenses for businesses that serve alcohol to retain all credit card recepts and security videos to be made available to the police in the event of an incident. That's not much different than what the city is requesting for the med-pot dispensaries. |

What are you talking about? The police are already conducting selective enforcement. If there is a cop on 2nd street, it is invariably in front of Panama Joes, which happens to be one of the more resident friendly bars in Belmont Shore as opposed to Legends, Belmont Station and Acapulco Inn, bars owned by business partners Gene Rotondo and Gary Roth who are friends of DeLong. You seldom see cops stationed in front of Legends or Belmont Station. They are almost always in front of Panama Joes because PJ's is pulling all of the business from the Rotondo/Roth bars. I see it every night when I walk up and down 2nd street. In last night's BSRA meeting, Councilman DeLong specifically named Panama Joes as a problem bar. He totally avoided mentioning the white elephant in the room that everyone was thinking about and that was Legends bar, not Panama Joes. The complaints I received from residents while President of the Residents Association about bars were at least ten complaints about Legends for every complaint I received about Panama Joes. The selective enforcement is occurring because DeLong instructed the police to do so. DeLong conducted a meeting in his office in July following the shooting outside Legends bar. He invited Vice, Business Licensing, Planning, ABC and GENE ROTONDO, OWNER OF LEGENDS BAR. Resident Association boardmembers who asked to attend were denied. During the meeting, DeLong decided they were to focus on Panama Joes, not Legends where the shooting occurred. DeLong wanted to claim to residents he could be tough on bars by shutting down Panama Joes. If he intended to be honest about the entire situation, he should have invited the owners of Panama Joes. Instead, he has encouraged selective enforcement by the police to harrass the bars that are competition for Gene Rotondo and Gary Roth. |

1 I appear to have hit a nerve. Normally Mr. Goodhue is civil, though I disagree with his views. New York's 23'rd Congressional election of a week ago should be fact enough that a grass roots campaign has a chance. Mr. Goodhue,... Mr. Ruehle......put your name on the ballot. Otherwise, come up with something constructive, rather than filling these posts with vigilante ideology.
