This bill really isn't a good thing for American tax payers! Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac spent millions on lobbying, they made the list of Washington's top 20 lobbying spenders. Let them bail themselves out!!
"Even President Bush threw in the towel earlier today, dropping his opposition to a congressional housing package that aims to help 400,000 strapped U.S homeowners avoid foreclosures and prevent mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from collapsing. A Democratic provision to include $3.9 billion in the measure for neighborhoods hit hardest by foreclosures had drawn a veto threat from the president, but the White House said the need to end market turmoil over the mortgage-finance titans caused him to back off."
Not Rep. Tom Feeney, R-Oviedo.
This afternoon, with the House poised to pass the measure, Feeney issued a statement condemning it:
"This irresponsible bailout forces taxpayers to guarantee over $300 billion in new home loans for speculators and scam artists. To add insult to taxpayer injury, the bill also includes an unprecedented bailout for the trillion dollar mortgage giants, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
"I came to Washington to defend hardworking taxpayers, not speculators and scam artists. I urge my colleagues to reject this bad bailout and stand up for the responsible homeowners in their districts. If my colleagues pass this bill that raises the federal debt limit to $800 billion, I urge the President reconsider his decision not to veto this bill that is filled with liberal spending favors for ACORN and La Raza to use taxpayer dollars to subsidize their left-wing agenda nationwide," said Feeney.
UPDATE: The bill passed the House 272-152.
