Is it just me or does anybody else see a problem with the way somethings are handled at this school?

I have a son with disabilities that comes home with a knot on his head, hand print on his face, and bruises on his leg where one boy has been bullying him off and on all school year. I told my son to tell a teacher, he was called a tattle tale by that teacher. I tell a teacher, her words to me was "Oh, I hadn't heard nothing about this". Then I finally told my son "If they won't do nothing about it then whatever he does to you, do it back to him". Bully kicked my son. He kicked back. My son got caught. He was sent home with a detention slip which I refused to let him serve when the other boy was NOT punished also. So as of now, My son has out of school suspension because I refused to have my son isolated punished for this. He has to take zeros for all of his work tomorrow. I am just thankful he is a straight A's and B's student so I know the zeros wont fail him.

For one, there are 8 people at this school that was aware of this other boy's problems and bad behavior.

Then, I feel a teacher shouldn't try to teach a kid right from wrong if they are going to name call by calling them a "Tattle Tale".

I don't think he should be punished considering the harm and pain this other boy has caused is enough.

Last but not least, I have asked several people that have come into contact with my son at school and in my home if they consider my son to be a bully. I was told he is too quiet, well mannered, and respectful to be a problem.

Which after talking to some of the other parents, I have learned that one of their children got detention for not bringing a red pen to class. I guess if your child makes it through one year at this school without pulling a stick or getting atleast one or two dentions. Then they must be walking on water. <g> lol

I totally agree. Some teachers seemed to be the discipline police and some turn their heads.  It depends on their moods. I sit outside and wait for my child everyday and see little children get picked on and pushed around by bigger children all of the time. Unfortunately  if they take up for themselves somehow they are the ones who get in trouble.  Go figure.   They are supposed to provide a safe environment for your child not make it worse.

Oh yes!!! I have seen this also. On the playgrounds, the teachers sit and gossip while kids go wild unsupervised. Then as its time to leave. They bring them out the gym door making them sit on the ground.(Even in Winter months) I pay too much for school clothes for grass stains. Also, little ones threw in with the older ones pushing, shoving, and using language I dont say around my little ones.

God forbid I try to bring it to a certain someone's attention. She gives me a firm "Ma'am, thats not my job to lecture. It's my job to make sure rules are followed". I think rules need to be updated and refreshment courses need to be taken for some of these people in this school. Even the ones with comfy office jobs and high on power trips.

This is my childrens first year at this school. I have come across good as well as bad in some issues with this school. I just hope the bad doesn't override the good because Im starting to see more bad things.

One day it will be our children caring for these people as they get old. So I hope they keep in mind that you reap what you sow.

City school sucks! All they do is raise spoiled little brats that think their shit doesn't stink and that they're better than all the other kids in the county!!! I'm tired of the fingers being pointed in the county schools' direction when people talk about poor facilities and poor faculty. That's a joke. Some people have it in their minds that since they pay for their child's education; they must be receiving the best. That is B.S.! The teachers at the city school received the same amount of education as the rest of the teachers in the county.

This happens in all school systems, City, County, Private. The difference is how it is handled. By now, you should know who to talk to about the problem. If you don't get results, go to a school board meeting. If you still don't get results consult an attorney. Very simple,,,,,

No need to worry if you don't have a reason to worry. Why bring strife on yourself. Enjoy his age and the time.....you will never have it again.

Are you sure you are talking about a 5th grade teacher at RCS? Could you be talking about a teacher at RMS? My child is in 5th grade at RCS and I have never had or heard of any problems. I also know and have met the four 5th grade teachers and I couldn't see any of them being a drunk or pulling guns on their husbands.

Why coudn't it be the "fabulous" city school? Does everything that is not perfect have to be at the county schools? By the way, Rogersville Middle does not have 5th grade.

That's exactly what I was thinking. "Oh no! Something bad happened in a school...it couldn't have been the City School! Must be that county school..."

That's what people have in their heads, but they need to get a reality check.

First of all, I am an educator at RCS, and I am very offended by what is being said. Second of all, I'm sure all of you who've entered a comment are wonderful parents and model citizens. Yeah right! Furthermore, if you are so unhappy with the city system, go to the county. I'm sure they'd gladly accept your children if they are the sweet angels you claim they are. In addition, if you want to file a complaint about everything teachers are doing wrong, then be prepared for us to start complaining about all the B.S. we put up with from you. Maybe we could do our jobs up to your unrealistic standards if we weren't raising your children for you while you call us or send us notes about how we're doing it wrong. Lastly, if you live in Johnson City, Bristol, or Kingsport why are your children going to the city school?

Thanks for proving our point. RCS is full of snobby people who think they are better than anyone else. If a child doesn't "wear a halo" they are not welcomed at the city school.

If you feel that strongly about it (having to put up with "all the B.S." as you call it), I really think you chose the wrong profession. You knew what kind of challenges you face as an educator when you were getting your degree, whether they are with the students, the parents, or your employer. Teaching is challenging profession and there is no way you cannot please everyone. I just think you seem to believe that your school is better than all the other schools in the county, which says that you think the kids aren't as smart or as well behaved. As an educator that is a horrible philosophy to have.

This is proof of a great educator right here. Putting down the children and their parents. Thats super, I would sure like to pay all that money to send my children to be educated by a teacher who feels this way!

Yes We will accept these "angels" as you call them. They are chidren that need to be educated as well. Maybe you might want to rethink your career choice. As for your question about the different cities, don't you know RCS is where all parents want their children to get an education. HAHA! Yeah Right
