I think it is shameful that Hawkins County has to raise out land taxes every year. For anyone that owns land, a house, a lot, or a farm we have to PAY. The folks living off the government do not pay anything. There could have been a wheel tax added that would have been fair for everyone. I have approached several commissioners about this and they all say "I had NOTHING to do with that." Come on....if they didnt do it who did. I will not be voting for a single one of the commisioners that is in office now..

The people that don't work should just be left alone and they will die on their own, or learn to work. The people that need killing are the politicians that take our hard earned money for their schemes that benefit themselves.

There was a great article in Hawkins Today paper about what we need to do when we see the commissioners out talking together about county business outside of the public meetings. This is how our taxes get raised without us having a clue what's happening Like Maddox making the silly proposal to raise the wheel tax an outrageous amount. He never asked my opinion. Vote every last one out. Vote in people with proven experience, not because of his or her connections. Until then we just have to listen in on our great leaders lunch conversations since they can't follow rules. It may cost us an arm and a leg if we don't.

ABSOLUTELY....I really wish everyone in the county would vote against every commmissioner that is in office now and get a whole new gang. You have to make sure the "whole new gang" knows their ass from a hole in the ground before you give them job.

The real question should be do their families let them starve to death. 99% of the people in Hawkins who receive a check are able to work. Many of them work on the side getting money under the table, money that they don't pay taxes on. Meanwhile, those of us who are taxpayers have to support them.

I know people who milk the system for all they can get. They exist and there are ways to remove them but first you have to shout loud enough. Write your representatives, tell them how much money can be saved by drug testing welfare recipients. We can also forced dead beat parents to work for the state and county they're in to pay off child support. Simple, if the county or state pays for your mistakes you pay them back. I also know of disabled people, poor, yet too proud to say they are in need of help. People unable to repair their own houses or work, who are basically abandoned by their own family. These family members go to church and donate to other countries but never care for their own blood. Yet they freely give to drug addicts who return again and again with their hands out. They say they are needy yet there is always a satellite dish on their trailer. I have no idea why this is, maybe it's family grudges, maybe they they just give to those the whine the loudest, but not all people who are needy get any assistance. Some just exist day to day until they die

I ain't talking about the ones with headaches or back aches, I'm talking about the ones tht are truely disabled. it has been well discussed both in topix and around Tennessee that any and every government-sponsored social program will not work because someone who doesn't need it will probably take advantage of it. There's nothing we can do to stop this except to end these socialist programs, if that means the truly needy must suffer, so be it. In order for society to work, we need to start running it like a profitable business. That means getting rid of the deadweight. If someone can't provide value back to society, they need to be eliminated, period. Really, it doesn't matter what excuse they have about not working for a living.

I was wondering when one of you liberals would get around to it.When one of you kool-aid drinkers get backed in a corner, out comes a story about somebody who will die if we have welfare reform.Every damn time.Gov ernor Bredesen took 30,000 off welfare(and he is a Democrat!),and nobody died as a result.I wish a reward was paid to every person who reported a "disabled" person whose only disability is lazyness and was seen climbing trees, carrying 50 pounds of groceries into the house, etc. We could give $100.00 to everybody who reported somebody milking the system, and after an investigation was found to be malingering and made to do community service. But most of all,the financial drain would stop.Eventualy welfare fraud WILL stop, because this country is bankrupt, and the Silent Majority will only go so far

Yea they screwed up on the tax issues here. We can fix it . Politics is about two things , people and money. Somewhere along the line it was corrupted into a power game of control and fraud for profit. Until we have elected officials that are in office for the people by the people , with no ill intent controlling tax exspendatures. Then we can actually see a better world. There are also better ways to help the less fortunate than welfare programs that invite deception and promote lazyness. Even a wheel chair bound older person can answer a voice activated phone and pass on information. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions gone wrong. While welfare is a noble idea, in reality it is a crutch ,that closes so many doors of oppritunity . How many times have we see folks who would like to be working , but they would lose to much from thier benifits if they took a job . There is a fix, we just have to have honest , intelligent , and decent folks in office with common sence solutions .It seems like everytime the gov actually gets one thing right , they screw up ten others.

If a person truely can't work because of a REAL disability and don't have family then they do deserve help. I don't care what you say. As it is I can't work and i ain't no little granny woman. Places answering phones or flipping burgers won't hire me because i'm too much of a liability for the work place. What do you suppose i do when i get turned down everywhere and have tried to find work. I am not some lazy --- liberal or some stupid kid. I worked several hours a day before I got hurt. I payed my taxes just like everybody else. So now what do i do? Come on i'm sure one of you has some wise --- remark to give me, so give me your best shot.

Why not work from home , you can type , therefore you could process applications, type letters, data entry , and the best part is you can chose when you work , how your dressed , so on and on. You seem very intelligent . I'm sure if the gov. had a program that would allow you to do something , you would consider it, correct? If i knew more info on you , i bet i could find something enjoyable and useful for you to do. The only limits a person has , is the ones they force on themselves. Well, ok and the ones the gov. now forces on you. But if the circumstances were to change , and you could do something good with out loseing your benifits , would you?
