Quality of life

Among the quality of life issues brought up at the public meeting were increased graffiti, reported by Beverly Prentiss, and "the bums" in upper Port, who according to Barbara Sabatino of the Port Jeff Army Navy store, have been increasingly active, starting fires and hanging out with large containers of alcoholic beverages. Cheryl Durant urged the board to do more to beautify upper Port. "It's just disgusting," Durant said, and "this is the first thing that [visitors] see."

Marge McCuen agreed, "We have a lot of crap to clean up because of the people who accumulate up there." McCuen pointed the finger at the Pax Christi shelter for homeless men, recalling an incident several years ago when a purse snatcher tried to escape by running into the building but was nabbed by Joe Erland, the current deputy mayor. "Father Frank is part of the garbage problem," she said, referring to the Rev. Francis Pizzarelli who runs Hope House Ministries.

Marge McCuen to Father Francis Pizzarelli :

"Father Frank is part of the garbage problem."

I guess Mrs. McCuen has not yet experienced the joy of having a loved one kill himself of a self inflicted gunshot wound, poison himself, hang himself, run away never to be seen again, over dose, etc, etc

These are REAL problems young men in this community of PORT JEFFERSON and the greater Suffolk area face every day, Father Frank is a hero in my opinion and surely anyone who knows him would say like wise. Father Francis Pizzarelli, Barbra Verruto, Janet Brennan, Patty Griffin and many others simply want to help young men and women in crisis. They are saving lives. Yes, quality of life issues are present,but don't think for a second HHM isn't doing everything they can to coexist peacefully.

To sum up this Saint on earths work as “garbage” is utterly shameful and disgusting

They worship a homeless man on Sunday and ignore him on Monday.

hhm has done so much in creating a new life for myself and friends. anyone who talks trash about a man who dedicates his life to helping those who cannot help themselves, should really pay attention to what they are trying to avoid in their lives. father frank i a saint and a life saver. Shame on you!!

Father Frank has done an incredible job helping young people, the homeless and families in crisis for over 25 years! I met him through my best friend who was saved 25 years ago by Fr. Frank and HHM's staff, as one of the first young men who found shelter through Hope House from what was would surely have been a troubled life. With Fr. Frank's love, unselfish, Christ-like dedication and sacrifice, my friend --- like so many young men and women --- has turned his life around dramatically! He now lives a happy, successful life, returning the favor that Father Frank did for him: helping others (friends, family, troubled youths, etc.), whenever and however he can. Father Frank has also helped me when I was going through a rough time, and I pray that more people whose lives have been touched and blessed because of Fr. Frank and HHM will rally to his side. We need more people like Father Frank Pizzarelli!!! God bless him, his staff, and their endless, selfless work!

I grew up in Port Jeff and East Setauket -1970-1990 - attended Infant Jesus School at a time when Father Frank was in control their. I learned much. He coached my parents through a very difficult and ruff time in their lives and marriage -- and today, they remain happily married with 9 grandchildren. he hleped by older borther with drug use. He married my brother and he married me and my wife. Simply, the man has devoted his life to the people of Port Jeff and the surrounding areas -- and never has turned a his check to any person in need. If ever you attend one of his masses -- his messages seem the pierce threw the hearts of most to the point of emotional breakdown. As a teanager in Infant Jesus Church, I recall not being able to squeeze myself into the church to hear his postive weekly messages. Simply, any person writes such Garage should not have a job in such a feild. Its sad...and, i pray for her...for she has no idea what she says about one of the greatest men to decide to give up his Monford Missionary in order to devote his life to Port Jeff, Suffolk County, Long Island and the sourounding areas. Marge McCuen, you are the problem with society today. Your ignorance and loss of compassion is something that you should revisit. Father Frank is a person that has help thousands turn a bad life situation to a positive one. Why dont you start helping others rather than being so negative. Your a poor excuse for a Long Islander.

Father Frank is nothing but a hack. He hides underaged kid from the police. Infant Jesus Church was astounded when he sent a youth to Florida to avoid be arrested. No one is all bad. That is what you are being fooled by.

I came across this article and was and shocked, that this so called professonal would take this view on a great man that has dedicated his life to helping the children of her community. I think there is a underlying factor that influenced this article. If she doesn't like the looks of upper port mabe she should go up there and try and help these man to find there way in life as Father Frank has, but this would require effort, compassion, and love the very same qualities that seem to be lacking from her sad life.

As someone who is familiar with HHM's workings. Before you praise those who you don't know, look closely at the vow of poverty FF took. I'm sure he lives above the median for every person who posted here. The money HHM spends is not on the people they're "saving", it's on themselves. That said.
I don't think the problems in upper port can be blamed on Father Frank, it's a classic case of not in my backyard. Port Jeff can do more to police the area. Upper port has become a ghetto, why are there so many barbershops? How many people can need a haircut in one neighborhood.
The lack of leadership over the past few years in PJ is showing no place more blatant than in upper port. Hopefully, things will be controlled and further deterioration can be prevented.

My feelings about what was quoted by this women is mixed, Father Frank has been around for years and helped hundreds of families, but as always there are a few bad apples in every bunch, and some can not be saved. I personally had an experience with a resident under Father Franks guidance, who back in 1992 stole my car and drove it through the old Murphys Frat house on 25A in upper port. This Man Michel A. was in probtion, homeless, yet managed to have in him so much alcohol that the police were amazed that he could even walk, he also had cocaine in his possession. So how did he get it? and how was he allowed to stay in a place that is supposed to stop him from drinking and set him on the road to a better life? I don't blame Father Frank himself because what he is doing on the whole is trying to save souls of those who wish to be saved. To make a nasty comment such as she did and for it to even be allowed to go to print was really bad editing on the papers fault. Alot of errors were made on all parties.

I lived at Hope House for a while in 2000/2001.I had(and still have)mixed feelings about Father Frank.He seems like a very complex man,intrenched with strong emotions on just about every single subject fathomable.On a personal level,he was always very respectful towards myself;not that he was like that to ther people that he deemed inappropraite or deviant.He never smiles;cracks jokes,or even had the slighest attempt at a sense of humour,in my opinion.I had come to Hope House because simply I needed a place to stay.....Like I said,he traeted me nicely.I am aware that people in the comunity have various and sundry things to say about him,ranging from ridiculous extremes on both sides of the spectrum.i will always be grateful to him simply for giving me a place to stay,but that is where my gratitude will end unfortunately.I have no hostility towards him;however;I respect him for what he did for me,and no more and no less.Whether or not he is a truly a saint will be for others(and G-d)to decide.I would,nevertheless,appreciate feedback on this issue.God bless everyone.

Father Frank is one of the most amazing, compassionate and loving human beings I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. However, the issue at hand, is that the women who made these statements, is clearly misinformed. It is unfortunate that people who share this viewpoint, take the stance of criticizing what they view as a problem in our society, rather than take a stand and try to be part of the solution.

She's probably a heartless Republican like all the rest of them...trying to filter out all the "bad" to make their community and country a bubble set apart from reality. People like her are very sad human beings.

If "Father Frank" is that Catholic Priest, that is now in the St. Louis De Monfort, Miller Place NY church, AND DRESSES LIKE HE IS JESUS CHRIST, there is some information about his "good work", that is
relevant, to consider, and NOT generally known.

HE MADE HIS MONEY DEAL, to build THE HOPE HOUSE, near Port Jefferson Rail Station, by "special arrangement" of the Infamous, Local "fixer" and "Briber", JOHN MCNAMARA, AND WITH, The Bank of Ireland.

During the subsequent public revelations about MCNAMARA, the "good" Father Frank, was, summarly, "kicked out" of Infant Jesus Church, by the good Monsignor, and sent into "exile", in the affluent, St. Louis Church...where he is now.

Father Frank, is the perfect example of that True Believer, wherein "The Ends Justify ANY means", to get what they want ! In their Minds, they have a Mission, and if it takes a pact, with the Devil themself, they will do it, EVERYONE ELSE OR THE IMPLICATIONS, THEREOF, BE DAMNED !

The Human Filth, that the "good" Father Franks, has wrought upon this Community, and the specific area, of the Port Jefferson Rail Station, HE HAS DESTROYED THE QUALITY OF LIFE, OF, cannot approximate ANYTHING, ANY OF THE, SOCALLED "good deeds" of his.

When he is being judged by his Creator, the "good Father", will be Judged, by someone he can't impress with his psuedo-Jesus wardrobe, his sandals, his community "connections".

ALL THAT WILL BE MEANINGLESS, to what he has destroyed.

THE TRUE STORY OF THE "GOOD Father", will be written, when he is past on, OR when he is "caught", and sent to Jail.

I'm a homeless person who has and probably will be staying at Pax again and all I can say is it probably is a racket - yet in a system full of hypocrisy it's still the best/safest place for a homeless person in Suffolk County to stay. That's why there are so many homeless in Port Jeff. And as far as heartless republicans go, hypocrisy is much more a destructive quality than heartlessness. American's of all calibers make judgments and fling opinions around about subjects they know little if anything about. Not to mention, telling the truth to an America is about as foreign as the people they employ to take care of there lawn. And in the spirit of forthrightness, I look like Jesus too. My last take on this is simply which world would you rather live in? A world where everyone was basically like Father Frank, or a world full of cranky babes who care more about increasing refuse, rather than decreasing suffering.

Father Frank is a FAKE, PHONY & and a FRAUD.

It figures that a "homeless person" would like him.

What he and his "flock" has done to Port Jefferson, is a CRIME !

Someday the extent of his Corruption will be revealed.

Until then, walk around the area of Port Jefferson Rail Road Station, and look at his "good work", and "contribution" he made to this community !

When I was in college (25 yrs ago)....my brother and a couple friends decided to spend our spring break in Port Jeff instead of sunnier climes. Fr. Frank had previously come to our college to introduce us to his mission.
We took a van down (from VT) and spent a week with him and his 'guests'.
This man is a kind, compassionate and giving man, who has opened his home to young people who (need a chance)- they really need him.
For those of you who have not gotten to know him or see the impression he leaves on these young people, have no right to pass judgment on him.
I hope one day to return to Port Jeff to see how he is doing.

When you visit the next time, go around to Port Jefferson Rail Road area, and see what Father Frank has done to the immediate area.

BASICALLY, Father Frank has turned the town of Port Jefferson, into a "sanctuary city"...FOR HUMAN FLOTSAM !

If you have to use the area, EVERYDAY, and be confronted with his reprobate, Human Filth..HIS FLOCK, that, literally, make the Railroad Station their home, you wouldn't be so free with your comments !

When you deal with the Fake Beggars, the Drunks, the Drug Addicts that ask you for money, the homeless that live under the railroad station platforms, and the Filth that attack you, while you wait for the LIRR train, THEN GIVE YOUR COMMENT, OK ????
