Hi, I'm the VP of our Merchants Association and President of our Revitalization Group and I'd be happy to show you around and tell you about our town if you visit. I think our town has a great future and many of us are working real hard to make it even better. We're 35 minutes from west knoxville and about the same from crossville. I'm not sure about the house but there are some nice ones for sale around here.

John your retarded... Rockwood is a dead community please quit lying to these people. Every house that isn't lake front or lakeview that has went up for sale in the last to years is still on the market. Take your pick. Loudon or Lenoir City higher prices but much better homes to choose from. Oh yeah and more than Subway orJr's resturant to pick from to eat at.

What about family. The houses is not the only thing you have to worry about. What about Schools, work, and church. What is the divorce rate in rockwood. Heard it was high. Anyone know. Really interested in moving there too. Lots of single girls.

Rad, you seem to be a very positive person and I hope you'll fit in nicely in one of those communities.

But I do think that Loudon and Lenior City are good analogies for Rockwood. They went through the growing pains we're going through now about 15 years ago. Kicking out the good ole boy political systems, getting more citizens involved who are interested in growth. We've got a long way to go but we've got a start.

Hard to compare Rockwood and Lenoir City. Interstate 75 is the main thing that helps the place.Exits bring tax dollars, and it is the gateway to the Smokies.

its not just rockwood that is bad...its all of roane county..i have lived here all my life thats 21 years. and i dont know about divorce rates or political systems but it all sucks....if you have kids there is nothing for them to do in roane county but either get mixed up in all the drug dealing or drug doings hanging out with the wrong crowds. and jobs lets talk about jobs...hell it took me a year when i finally moved out on my own to find one and its a fast food place.. which sucks too....your better off moving to knoxville or nashville...this place is dying slowly there is nothing to do and it seems like the drugs are taking over roane county...not just guys but girls are getting involved too....

Goonette, I know jobs are hard to find anywhere at this time, but have you applied at the factories there in rockwood. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones and get hired on. I hear they make really good money. I have a cousin that works at one of them.

Don't listen to the negativity. Rockwood is fine. I wouldn't live anywhere else. Sure, there's no fast food joints right here but up the road around the interstate are plenty of places to eat. I grow a garden and freeze and can, so the lack of junk food doesn't bother me. There are plenty of things to do here, at least for me, I love fishing, boating, and swimming. It doesn't matter where you live, there is always somebody saying, "There ain't nothing to do."

Yes, I agree, there is alot of things to do in Rockwood. I am a fisher and boater. I love the water. I consider myself lucky to live here. If you like other things drive an hour or hour and half to do things. It will not do you any good to drive to near by cities because they have nothing at all. Some of them do not even have the water.
Loving Rockwood.

For all of those down on Rockwood on this and other threads why don't you do something instead of just posting anonymous comments.

Here's a web site and phone #: http://tn.gov/comptroller/shared/safwa.htm

Fraud Waste and Abuse Hotline
1-800-232-5454

That's the state comptroller's office. If you know of a city or county policy, employee, department, or elected official doing something wrong, abusive, wasteful, or illegal call them. If enough of us do they'll listen. If you call them with something you can prove they'll listen. It helps if you're willing to give them your name and phone # but I don't think it's necessary.

The other thing you can do is get involved politically. We have a city election next June, find an honest candidate you believe in and work for them or run yourself. It only takes 300-400 votes to be elected here, you've got no excuse.

So get out there and work to make it better or use about the same effort it takes to post an anonymous comment and make an anonymous phone call.

I've always been in the line of thinking that home is what you make of it. Yes Rockwood has its share of problems, but what place doesn't? One can speak of divorce rates, drug problems, etc. etc., but what place doesn't have those problems also? You can look at the other area towns and cities Topix boards and you'll find as much of those negatives anywhere else as you will on this one. Keep and open mind and if you see a problem with something, become part of the solution, get off your ass and do something about it instead of sitting here bitching and moaning about how bad it is.

Anything worth doing is worth doing right, and if you live in area with all those problems, do something about it! Maybe, just maybe if more people became part of the solution and not part of the problem, Rockwood wouldn't have all those problems that all these Negative Nancy's are complaining about.

And to Mr. Evans, I'm sorry about some of my language on this post, but I definitely do not have the patience for people being the way they are on here that you obviously have. But I personally would like to say thank you and I believe you are doing a helluva job staying positive and trying to bring in a better population that want Rockwood and Roane County to be better places to live and raise their children.
