Contents obtained from RISD will be posted online to be seen in its official form early next week.
..........
This was obtained via the Freedom of Information Act. Lets Quote Some Numbers. There is so many incidents for each school that it would take more space than ten forums on Topix. Thus, I am posting District totals, by year and only the serious incidents. Most recent year first.

Rockwall ISD Totals:

Year 2008-2009

111 Controlled Substances
15 Alcohol Incidents
83 Fighting Incidents
3 Unlawful Weapons
2 Indecent Exposures
7 Assaults

Year 2007-2008
42 Controlled Substances (was a good year)
84 Fights
12 Unlawful Weapons
7 Aggravated assaults
1 Assault Against an Employee
5 Terrorist Threats
17 cigarette violations

Year 2006-2007
97 Controlled Substances
94 Fights
7 Unlawful Weapons
4 Terrorist Threats

As many places as I or others can make a point. Rockwall has this wonderful habit of suppressing the media. The district managed to wipe one post. But can't keep wiping them if they keep getting re-put back up.

There has basically never been any discussion, talk or revealing of any drugs, arrests or weapon crimes at the schools. No one ever prints anything. So, this information is big news to spread around as much as one can.

Again, as I've mentioned in other posts, if you want this in the paper, then TELL the paper. The newspaper is in the business to make money and if people tell the paper they want to read about Rockwall's drug problems, they will put it in the paper if it makes them money. The Rockwall, Royse City and Greenville papers are all owned by the same company, based in Alabama and the Greenville paper has lots of crime news in it, so there is no reason why the companion papers won't print it if they think people will buy it. Neither the school districts not the city own or control them, no matter what people may think.
But don't be surprised if they don't devote the entire paper to reciting long lists of crime statistics. Not everybody wants to hear how bad the situation is and, judging by the crime news they put in the Greenville paper, things are just as bad there as in Rockwall. It may turn off or depress some people to read all crime all the time and people who live here or go to school here know things are bad.
Here's a thought. Instead of standing on the roof, yelling at the passers by about how awful things are, why not offer ideas about how to fix them?

No one wants to hear ideas in Rockwall. The status quo and the idea that those in power are right, will always be right, seems to be the acetone philosophy of the local area. Furthermore, the newspapers are always informed. Its simply the local papers like to contact RISD immediately, who their public relations person has gotten good at lying and sweet talking the district out of media coverage.

So, the newspapers are just supposed to not listen to what the school district has to say? How do you know the district is talking the paper out of coverage? Have you talked to the paper? I am not saying you are making this up, but it sounds hard to believe that anyone with the district would be able to talk a newspaper out of publishing a story which would sell papers and make the newspaper money, especially these days.

Yes, they can talk themselves out of it. Take the little Greenville Herald paper, they have received awards for great coverage of RISD by RISD. Those reporters don't want to lose that award by printing something bad. They only print fluff. The first thing those reporters do is give whatever is given to them and directly forward and mail it to the RISD. There is no unbiased and uncontrolled local papers.

Because local newspapers are so short-staffed nowadays - with far more people relying on the Internet for news - Rockwall papers primarily just print what people send them. They don't have enogh staff members to dig.

On the other hand, www.TheRockwallNews.com is published by a former investigative reporter who prefers to dig and sound the alarm about more serious topics, such as the tragic death of former RHS cheerleader Alexis Lancaster.

We'll also soon be investigating the above info and publishing stories about guns and drugs in schools, such as we see nationwide.

We know Rockwall parents and community leaders want to be well-informed about problems.

Again, the "Greenville" paper probably wouldn't print a whole lot about the Rockwall school district. The Rockwall or Royse City Herald-Banners probably would, but only if they learn about it. True, their staff works in Greenville (which I don't understand), but that just means they probably have to concentrate their attention on the issues which the public tells them they want covered, either by TELLING them directly (which I have recommended) or by judging which editions of the papers sell the most and figuring out which stories were included in those editions. They can also track which stories get the most hits on their web sites.
But the best method to get the reporters interested in a story, in any version of coverage (tv, newspaper, radio) is to TELL them directly, rather than just post long lists of statistics anonymously on multiple threads in a forum and think you have accomplished something.
The newspapers win awards (and sell more newspapers, which is what they are in the business of doing) by publishing good stories. If they aren't publishing the types of stories you want to read, then TELL them to print something else and BUY the paper, or at least read their web site.

This has been going on for years. It has gotten worse in the past two years. You only have to ask a student at either H.S. Those who are not using are not afraid to tell the truth.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Gemini

Maybe it's pre-Christmas tension but people can turn nasty in the blink of an eye today. This is especially likely if they've got a lot on their plate or they think they're very important, and you may have to treat them with kid gloves if you want to avoid getting sucked into a bad-tempered war of words. Some gentle humor may help to rescue the situation before it descends into acrimony.
