i just cant believe

first i have to say that the principal is retiring because she has to take care of her sick father in Chicago it doesnt seem that you listened to the anounsment she made very well. all the kids that drank where not very smart. but they should of known better. some thing that really annoys me is that i need tho get all the details about what happens at the school with the news on TV that is just sad i don't think they had enough gut anymore after the code red and the goal post falling on the kids head. all that spilled is that the kids had alcohal nothing else. tere just having a bad year

This is very sad. I used to go to Redland and what has happend was almost unspeakable when I went(which was only a few years ago). What has happened to the sweet, innocent middle schoolers I remember?

What has happened to people who can spell? Kids, stay in school. Stop drinking the booze. Save it for college.

Ben Dover wrote: people need to mind there business, they want to drink let them drink, When children are drinking alcohol on public school property it is no longer just THEIR business honey. If they want to destroy themselves in private that's their parent's business but they were dumb enough to not only bring it to school but to do it right after other kids got caught doing the same thing last week.

My kids went through school in the Magruder cluster with te last one graduating in the very early 90's. And, their kids are now in the Magruder cluster. This is NOT the first time this has happened, sad to say! It is the reporting of such instances that has improved!
I teach middle school aged students and, as a teacher, you have to keep your eyes open, your ears open, and, yes, your nose open! In my school, the clear plastic back packs have improved some some of the foolishness we have to deal with. It continues to amaze me how stupid the students think their administration and teaching staff is. They don't seem to understand that we actually were their age once (not that I ever would have considered taking any of my own parents alcohol to school!) and that many teachers have kids the age of their students and have this conversation in their own homes at dinner!
I am sure there will be lots of finger pointing and blame to go around. The first place to start is the offending students themselves. And of course, there will be lots of deflecting the incident away from them as adults make one excuse after another. The kids need to be accountable. Pay fines, write apologies, take part in alcohol and drug programs, and try to make amends. But, mostly, just grow up. And, I do not care what their cultural background is...that is no excuse either!
Just grow up and stop making really stupid decisins that just do not disappear off that school computer...EVER! It does come back to haunt you kids! When you go to Magruder and want to be on a sports team, be a cheerleader or "pom", be in band, chorus, drama, go out for any of the extra curricular programs, you name it! Then, of course, when you do finally grow up, there it is on that darn computer when you are applying to your first college of choice. Rats, how do I get rid of that pesky little middle school incident?

From most of the postings so far, it appears that a lot of folks may need remedial spelling and language courses. My goodness!
On the matter at hand, the parents should take some of the blame for either allowing their kids access to the booze and not teaching them the reasons why students attend school--to learn.

The suspended children should still be made to attend school and get school work done. Nothing is accomoplished if they are allowed to stay home and watch tv or play games.

Middle schoolers? Completely unreal. AND very sad that, at such a young age, they're into drinking. They keep up at this rate, they'll be full-blown alcoholics before they're 20.(and, PLEASE, don't tell me that "all kids drink and get drunk," no, they don't). If I'd done something like this, my Mom would've whipped my butt good and grounded me for a year; I would suggest that would be good punishment for these brats.

All involved are Hispanic, the drinking started on the bus on the way to school. They needed a translator to explain to the parents what was going on. Think of moving to Prince William County. This is outragous. I'm so glad my kids are grown and out of all this. (but now just have to worry about the grandkids). What a shame it has come to this

That answers my question. I'm assuming their parents are criminal inhabitants in this country. We need to get this illegal border entry problem under control as soon as possible. This is a prime example of what scale the criminal inhabitant problem has on the degradation of life in traditionally middle class communities. I say deport them!

I want to know where the parents of these children were and how they managed to get out of the house with alcohol? In my opinion, parents are too wrapped up in their own lives to know what their children are doing. If the parents would take more interest in what these children are doing, there would be less of this type thing going on.

It is obvious that you are doing something in English class other than studying. You really need to concentrate more on your school work and less on what others are doing.

Perhaps if the parents spoke English and were involved with the kids and the school they would know whats going on. However that is not the case the parents needed a translator to understand what was happening. Don't let the kids back in school send the whole bunch back where they came from

Ya. I think they should have checked the status of these illegals. Typical mexicans sitting on the corner with their Dos Equis and a paper bag

i want to know who brought the stuff and who was involved, but the school doesn't tell anyone anything...:( the only way you could find out is if you were there, but i wasn't... i was on the other side of the building. the letter that was sent home was basically the same one that was sent when the two kids got hit with the soccer goal post, except a few words were added and taken out.
