It was funny, last night on the news, one teacher asked how would they pay for it?
I thought we were already paying teacher a year's salary. It's just that now, they get 3 months off.
So what if they have to work more time?
You are NOT paying a teacher for a year of work. Most teachers just opt to spread out their pay over a year....or they can take it for just the 9 months. When a teacher goes from a 9 month contract to a year contract there is a significant raise involved. And by the way, most teachers would probably go crazy if they had to put up with the children of people like you for more time than they already have to. And furthermore, they DO NOT get three months off...they spend their summer going to traning, workshops, boxing up their room and then getting their room ready for the next school year, not to mention getting plans ready and working with the curriculum.

I can clearly tell you that I do not want schools to raise my child. I want my child to go to school and come home at a decent hour so I can do my job and have family time. I think if kids stay at school that long the teachers will have to raise the kids. I did not have children so that I could send them off to someone else for hours and hours a day. I want my child home, playing and being a kid while he still can!

My heart goes out to good teachers, it really does.
The problem is, most of them are about as useful as you on Topix and should be fired.

As an educator I thought I would school you as to how teachers get paid...since you so usefully posted something incorrect on Topix.....and since you so obviously don't know what you are talking about and you are rude to boot, I won't even dignify your comment about my being fired.

I have to agree. I bet if Obama really pushes this, more and more kids would be home schooled. Then he would probably turn around and outlaw that!

Reasons, to oppose year round school.

Chicago Teen Beaten To Death Outside School..

It's unsafe for innocent young, or adult
students to become victims of bullying or
crimes. Shooting sprees on campus or a teacher can become a victim. Bus crashes, bus drivers beating on students. Bigger gangs. Kids growing without having parent contact is just wrong.

More exposure to our kids the H1N1 swine flu.

More types of communicable diseases that are contagious and can easy be transmitted between human contact.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/09/30/ear ...

(CBS) New numbers bear out just how big a threat the H1N1 virus is to children.

The latest report from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that strain of flu has killed 49 children in the United States. And the numbers are on the rise: At least 19 kids have died in 14 states since the beginning of August. And the "traditional" flu season is just beginning.

One of the latest victims was 14-year-old Chloe Lindsey, of Cisco, Texas. She died Sunday.

Her mother, Tammy Osborne, and stepfather, Tom Osborne, told "Early Show" co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez they can't help but think they should have intervened sooner and more forcefully after Chloe fell ill.

Through tears, Tammy said, "The reason we decided to do this (the interview) and what we think is most important for people to know, even in our time of pain, is that I knew Chloe was sick, and even thought the doctor said she was gonna be OK, and they didn't give her the medicine (Tamiflu, which the Osbornes say wasn't administered until Chloe had taken a severe turn for the worse), I knew she was really sick. And I would have been more demanding in her treatment, and been more of an advocate for her than I was.

"And I think it's important to let people know that, even though we're taught all our lives to trust our doctors, and I do trust my doctor, that nobody knows my child better than me, and that, when I knew something wasn't right, I should have gone and made somebody do something."

After the Osborn's told what happened to Chloe, CBS News Medical Correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton reflected on what happened:

This is tragic, having to loose your young love one from this two reasons.

F*** year round school...

I don't think more hours spent at school would create a higher quality of education, which I think is the ultimate goal. My belief is that students need smaller classrooms with more teacher attention. Maybe have these classes being thought-out to divide students into varied learning styles rather than trying to force all students into a one-size-fits-all method.
Very insightful idea! Wonder why that one's not been thought of before.

Of course you want your kids home, but Obama wants the kids at school so he will have more time to indoctrinate them...teach them songs about himself, and have them watch his dull speeches. He's a jerk. And who will pay these teachers to teach longer hours? Why, the taxpayers of course!

On Tuesday’s “O’Reilly Factor,” Glenn Beck explained why he doesn’t trust public schools to educate his children:

Because I saw a change in my older kids when they went to school. And I also — I just don’t like revisionist history. I don’t like the fact — when my daughter, my second to oldest daughter decided she was going to go to college and she was going to study ancient history, I said,“How about some current history? You know, America is kind of good. How about, you know, studying some…”

The enthusiastic home-schooling father said his daughter told him,”Dad, American history, every time I look into it, we’re always on the wrong side. We always are doing the wrong thing.”

This depressed Beck. He said he thought to himself that if his daughter, growing up in his household which is filled with flag-waving and patriotism “she still can’t beat it…there’s no chance.”

Works for me.

Beck examined another piece of leftist propaganda on a recent show. That anti-capitalist, anti-individualist video made by former Greenpeace employee Annie Leonard and the extreme-left Tides Center, is being shown to schoolchildren across America.

Meanwhile, the doltish Joy Behar of the TV show “The View” trashed Beck.“He was an alcoholic and a drug addict at one time … and it sort of follows, yeah, that he would be crazy now,” she said. Keep it classy, Joy.

When they go after them personally that means they have no logical response to the argument. Joy Behar is a total joke.
