I took my kids to play at the park located at the Nathan Dean Sports Complex the other day and was amazed to see it had been vandalized, yet there has been no news of such. The nice swing that use to be in the center of the park had been stolen, probably sold for scrap, a section of the fence looked like it had burned, but there were no barriers, tape etc, to keep children away from it, the pole that the kids slide down had been spray painted. The overall condition of the playground is pathetic, grass is growing through the sand, the wood chips are worn down next to dirt, the poles, which support the playground, tops are rotted because nobody capped them off or put tar on them to keep the rain from rotting them out. I believe the playground was built using donations from citizens of rockmart, But it is now a part of a City owned sports complex, So why is the City not taking care of it? Also why does the train have to be named the "STD Express"? Don't we owe it to the children of the community to take better care of the playground?

Kids (and I use that term loosely) run wild down there. I refuse to take my children there!

I agree the conditions are deplorable for such a potential asset to the community. However, the playground has been used/misused by tens of thousands of children for over 12 years. I think with a cooperative effort between the city and the community, the playground can be repaired and be better than before. I would definitely help.
The train was named after a child whose loved ones donated money to the playground.

Maybe someone needs to speak with Jeff Hulsey and have him get up some volunteers to help fix it up. I would be glad to help!
